Shradow
Firefall, a new MMO shooter, the first game developed by Red 5 Studios, looks very promising. It is currently in closed beta, with no plans for an open beta, instead going into full release. A fun (perhaps not the most informative) look at the game is shown here and in future parts. It is aptly described as "an open worldy Borderlands meets TF2". Kizzi
I read about this a while ago. It interested me, but it having MMO elements put me off it somewhat; I read about Tribes: Ascend shortly afterwards and that seemed like a similar game that interested me much more. Since it is F2P though, I might check it out at some point; I watched a video about it and it actually seems pretty cool, like a slower Tribes: Ascend with PvE and loot and stuff. Archbaron Larry
An MMO shooter is an interesting idea. But this game does look EXACTLY like Borderlands, except in third person and more future-like. I do want to check this out when I comes out, though, it does look fairly promising. Desu the Blue Nerd
Okay, this may be a bit of a bump (10 days so not exactly a necrobump either so it should be okay) but I'm just now noticing this thread. Anyway, I was able to score an Open Beta Pass and have played quite a bit in the past week or so. Anyway...
I read about this a while ago. I've yet to get around to playing Tribes Ascend (my email had been buggy so I wouldn't have been able to make an account) but I don't think it's really fair to compare the two games all that much. :/
An MMO shooter is an interesting idea. Agreed. Tricky to pull off but they seemed to have done a pretty good job. But this game does look EXACTLY like Borderlands, except in third person and more future-like. I do want to check this out when I comes out, though, it does look fairly promising. It has a similar art-style (cell-shaded which I believe can actually be turned off if you aren't a fan) and even then not really. I've played plenty of both and can't say they really look THAT much alike aside from being cell shaded. But yes, both are obviously sci-fi. And the gameplay is obviously a bit different since you have jetpacks/boots allowing you to get pretty much wherever you want to.
The game is actually pretty fun although at some points kind of difficult (although I may just have to lower my settings a bit to get rid of some lag). Due to it being in closed beta it doesn't really have all that much to it at the moment so it's a tad bit boring when the only real mission I have is a daily to dig stuff with the thumper and don't get me wrong, getting a thumper going and fighting hoardes of giant insects with a party is a crapload of fun, but being told to do something else would be nice. By the time the game is fully released it should have a lot more missions to do though and all the current bugs (which are pretty few and minor which is to be expected from a closed beta) should be fixed. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go back to playing it.

If it's gonna be in open beta then I'll probably play it and realize it's totally different.
Desu the Blue Nerd
Again, I'm a bit late on this but I recently got an email and I can invite two people into the beta. Don't have any friends with much interest in MMOs or are really even able to due to computer or parents just not letting them so does anybody here want one? I'll need an email.

I don't know what to say... Get on your knees. Edit: I swear to god, I thought this was the PM. Shradow
Huh, something kind of humorous I read about Firefall and Borderlands: Though they were developed separately. The devs have said that they were already leaning towards cell shading even before Borderlands came out. One version of the story even has a collective groan from everyone in the studio as the new design for Borderlands was shown. Also, what are your characters names? We should join a squad. I'm Shradow, obviously.
Desu the Blue Nerd
I roll with Desperado as my name. But I'll be pretty busy next week so don't expect me on much.
