"Fine then! And just in case.. I think I will mirror you this turn, only I'll put down 3 face-downs.. Go.. Rob.."

Amber placed a monster in defense, and then three face-down monsters.

"I'm not going to make the same mistake again... Even if he cheated to get the cards he wanted before, There's no way for me to know which cards it was he grabbed before..."
"So what IS your plan...?"
"You'll See Sonya.. just trust me..."
"... Alright... but only because I know how much you care about Zebby."

All the while, as She dueled, she couldn't help how quickly Leon had changed after giving Amber his number... She knew Shark Drake was to blame, but at least one thing remained the same... He still cared about her.

"I'm gonna try to make this quick Leon... but even if it takes me a few more turns, I'm not going to let what happened before happen again."

"I activate Battle Mania," Said Greg's opponent, a tall, lankly man in black sweatpants and a hoodie. "Whatever," Greg replied, drawing his card, and sighed.
Another dead draw...Damn it, of all the hands I could get...It was only the second turn, and he had a horrible opening hand. If I don't Summon a monster, I won't take damage, but if my next draw is something like Moth or Girastag...
"I summon Steelswarm Caller, in Attack Position." A humanoid, moth like insect flew down onto the field (ATK 1700 / DEF 0). Since he couldn't due anything else, Battle Mania's effect activated, and Steelswarm Caller shone red, sparks exploding around it. The insect flew at the opponent's only monster - Big Shield Gardna, in Defense Position.
"I activate D2 Shield," the boy's opponent responded. Big Shield Gardna's shield shone blue as it doubled in size (DEF 2600 -> 5200).
Greg gritted his teeth This'll hurt, but it's only the second turn, and with 4000 Life Points, I'll survive it...Barley. He braced himself for impact as the Insect continued it's race at the Gardna.
"That's not all!" Greg's opponent continued. "I activate my other face-down - Shrink! Now Caller's ATK is halved! You're finished!" The Steelswarm Caller shrunk in size (Caller ATK 1700 -> 850).
"Wait, wha-" The young duelist said, before Big Shield Gardna smacked back Steelswarm Caller with it's shield, sending it flying into Greg and causing an explosion. [GREG LP: 4000 -> 0]
Greg tumbled back, as his Heart Piece tumbled out of his pocket, sliding towards the victor. The man stopped it under his boot, picked it up, and studied it momentarily before placing it back in his pocket.

((I believe it was 3 face-down S/T cards, not monsters, Kohaku XD))

"Huh, it's not a mirror if I have 2 Numbers. First I draw! (5 cards in hand) Now I play Enchanting Fitting Room, and I don't need to tell you how that works, do I? From the top of my Deck I can summon...Archfiend Mirror in Defense (700/600) and Oppressed People in Defense too (400/2000)" - a red curtain appeared between Amber and Rob; when it dissapeared, a green winged lizard holding a hand mirror and a group of slaves appeared in front of Rob, in a cloud of red mist.

"And finally, set a monster."

Josep had found them, and subsequently left them...they were of no consequence to him anymore.....and for some reason he just plain didn't care, he looked at his heart pieces and the people that were still in the tournament,by now, even on day one, a considerable amount of people had lost, duels being played left and right...and now..he saw, every once in a while he saw that unholy black shroud surround various duelists...including the one called Leon....if anything else...it sickened him to the core....what had this game become now that this power was what everyone seeked...even Hannah...she was...gone....because of these cards, and no one cared about all the actual injury caused by them.....someone had to set things straight....return the game to the way it was...before these...."Numbers".

He remembered talking with Amber....she seemed nice, but she was still one of them...a "Number Holder" but she said something that resonated. She was afraid for her Zebulos.....not just for being taken in an ante....but...being destroyed?....was that possible? to destroy a Number? if they were unique that would mean only one copy of each existed...if he destroyed it, no one would be hurt....all these possessions gone...simple....destroy all numbers... it resonated through his head, multiple times the line "Destroy them" just seemed to drill into his subconscious. "These cards....are nothing but trouble....as such...the Dragon Lords will step up...and annihilate them...." he said as he looked at everyone and started sniffing out Number's holders.

“Beast King Barbaros will attack you directly!” Omega ordered as the native beast hybrid charged its long holographic spear into the boy (NPC: 0 Life Points) thus earning him his second Heart Piece. ‘That weakling definitely has no Number on him, I would expect any Number Holder to at least dent my Life Points even without relying on the powers of a Number,’ Omega realized as he collected his second Heart Piece from the boy. “Better luck in the next WDC,” Omega cheered up his Opponent before leaving.

James scanned the area for an Opponent cautiously and carefully. With his D-Gazer still on, he saw flashes of lights by the dark alleyway. ‘Hmmm…Interesting,’ James thought as he walked carefully through the alleyway.

James was relieved to have seen a duel just end. A man wearing a green robe and black hair claimed a Heart Piece from the loser. “That was simple, you must have improved as a Duelist by falling to my overwhelming tactics…” the man grinned with the delight, he was easily recognised as a Professional Duelist because he had the flaw of arrogance. “…Your deck should be my prize, or your money for my perfect performance. Getting beat by me never comes cheap,”

“Just shut up with your talk,” James snarled as the man’s attention warped onto James. James quickly grabbed his heart that contained four fake Heart Pieces, not that the anyone was aware. “I bet my four Heart Pieces against your two Heart Pieces,”

“Challenge accepted, you might as well have gave me your Heart Pieces,” the man replied as his hazel eyes were glued onto the Heart Pieces that James held as they both activated their D-Gazer and D-Disk to start the Augment Reality (James: 4000 Life Points)(NPC: 4000 Life Points).

Amber drew her card to play her turn. She placed yet another monster, but this time without saying anything more than "Go"

Amber couldn't helping thinking about her beloved Leon, and Zebulos... She was determined to save them both by any means necessary. They would have easily done the same for her.

"Joker.. I'd hate to say it, but my deck doesn't have any level three or level 2 monsters.. so I have not way of using your ability.. Besides.. I don't want to pit you against Zebulos if he somehow manages to get him out on the field..."
"That's alright, as long as you win this duel and win Zebby back, nothing else matters."
"Alright then... One more turn after this... I wont hold back."

Blazey smiled, watching Trinity blow her monsters apart. She knew this would happen from the start. She had set up her own field and done what she could to get Neo into the situation he was in just so she could lose to Neo, give him a heart piece, and keep him in the tournament. There was no way she was gonna let Neo get kicked out of the tournament this easily. After all, she still wanted Mikey to duel him, and to maybe beat him later. The holograms on the field faded away, and Blazey skipped towards Neo. She took one of her heart pieces and put it into his hand. "There," she said, winking at him. "Now don't lose this one." She held his hands smiled at him. "I still can't believe how lucky I was to meet you. You such an amazing duelist, and an equally amazing superhero!" She stepped in close to try and hug him again, but, at that moment, Mikey shouted at her from nearby. "Look!" he said. "Amber and Leon! Amber's dueling some creepy guy!" Blazey turned and saw Amber, then looked around for Leon, realizing that he was standing nearby. But he seemed different. He seemed to be emanating a strange aura. Blazey turned and faced Neo again, stepping back a but, and said, "Do know Amber and Leon? They seem like they know a lot of people."

Thomas smiled again as the ARV faded, and Blazey passed him a Heart Piece. "Thanks. And...hm. I've never been called an "amazing superhero" before...I suppose that's good." Then he looked over to where Amber and Leon were. "Yeah, I've met them. In fact, Leon's the reason I only had one Heart Piece now. Hey...do you think there's something...odd about Leon?" Suddenly, his eyes widened as he realized what that odd thing was. "That aura...it can't be...s***!" He started running towards Leon and Amber, ignoring Blazey and Mikey. "Leon! Are you OK?!" Thomas skidded to a stop next to him. "No...I guess you aren't...Number 32 got you didn't he. What happened?!"

Mikey looked over to where Neo was running. "Rude," he mumbled. "But Blazey, I honestly think that's the work of a Number Card." Blazey groaned, "The don't exist..." But then Blazey stopped and thought a bit about it. "I guess. It could be true. Maybe." Blazey ran off after Neo, and Mikey followed her. He stopped before he got there, and thought about what he could be running into. Numbers are supposed to be really powerful and REALLY dangerous...this might be a bad idea. "Blazey," he said, "This could get dangerous. I want you to stay behind me and Neo." Blazey nodded. "Leon isn't the same as before," she said. They ran up behind Neo and came to a stop, and then Blazey stepped back a bit. "Leon, Amber," he said, before looking back at Neo. "This is the work of a Number, isn't it?"

"It's a long story you guys... This guy cheated in a Duel and took MY number away.. so Leon lent me his Number 2, which gave Shark Drake the opportunity to possess Leon!" Amber looked to Rob "But I'm going to rectify all of this soon.... You're going DOWN in only a few more turns."

Zebulos, though trapped, and had no way of communicating with any of them. He was cheering Amber on, and keeping his spirit as high as he could.

"Go Amber!Go! I know you can do it! TRASH HIM"

"Hey you old Geezer! You hear me!? Take your turn already!"

It took every inch of Mikey's will power not to jump up and down screaming, "I told you so!" at Blazey, even though she rightfully deserved it. Numbers were real, Mikey was right, and Blazey was wrong. Mikey swallowed before speaking up. "So you and Leon are both Number Holders? What about Neo? Is he? Was he?" Mikey was just curious. Numbers were an interesting topic, and he was dying to learn more about them. For now, he'd keep quiet so Amber could finish the duel. What have we walked into? he thought. This tournament is more than we bargained for. Things could get really dangerous...

***
IV watched the crowd from nearby. He hoped he wouldn't attract to much attention. "So," he muttered, "Number 32? Seems powerful. And as long as I have this," he paused for a moment, looking at his crest, glowing faintly, "It can't take control of me. Its official. That boy is Number One on my list." He held back a laugh, trying to think up different, painful ways he could defeat him.

"Number 32.....Don't like it, I'll get to it eventually, but as a group, I don't want to look back if I suddenly attacked them.... these Number monsters are difficult...I have to get rid of them somehow, but I'll need to find their scent...so...use them as references?" he took a deep breath, and the black aura around some of them seemed evident, very clear...could he see that before? no, not at all. It was as if some 6th sense was kicking in now, would that explain the fact they could all..."talk" to their cards? Like why Amber spoke to Zebulos as if he were to her side....they were more then possessed, their seemed to be a whole other world side-by-side with this one.....and from what he saw they caused nothing but trouble.

"Fine then, so that's what a number holder feels like. They're preocupied with that guy, so I'm going to use this..."scent" to find the others....I wonder if they have ways to sense each other.....maybe their car...." he stopped his thought and looked in his pocket....."their cards." He slowly slipped one card out os his pocket, Red-Eyes Darkness Dragon, it was a stupid idea, but he spoke out loud anyway. "hello?" of course...he got no response.....instead a spike of "feeling" came upon him. "I sense one....possessed, I think I'll start with this one...." he said as he placed his card back in place and walked towards the first strong Number Holder he could find.

There seemed to be some odd commotion up ahead and Jenna picked up her pace, heading in that direction. It had been more than just the overenthusiastic shouts of a duel. Voices that sounded angry, accusing, and threats veiled within words that she could not fully hear. There was no doubt in her mind a duel was ongoing, but the noise had piqued her curiosity and she wanted to see what was up.

So intent on her destination, she took almost no notice of people bustling around her, until she bumped right into one (Josep), grunting from the impact and shooting the "offender" a glare, pausing to give him a quick lookover. He did appear to be a Duelist, which was good fortune in any case. She could probably coax him into a Duel to 'apologize' for the collision.

"Ow, watch out," she said crisply, straightening her clothing. "Don't you know it's good manners to step aside for a lady?" she added. It was mostly just an attempt to work some indignation into the young man, so that a fighting spirit could be lit. Then she could Duel him, perhaps.

Palir had been walking for a while now, and had been thinking. He had witnessed the power of the Numbers first hand, and was convinced that they were not the way to fix anything. He had seen and been what a Number could do to someone, and vividly remembered the words that 42 had used him to say. The Darkness in one's heart... I had suspected something was up when the Number took the form of my dead friend. Guess I never got over that... His quick pace slowed substantially, and he nearly stopped before a surge of energy took him by surprise. That felt like... Numbers! But how can I... I guess that 42 left an energy signature behind that I can 'sense' now; I hadn't used the card before that duel. He began to walk again, this time in the direction of Amber's party, possibly being held up on the way by over-eager duelists.

Thomas shook his head a little at Amber's story. "Giving up Number 2 wasn't the smartest of moves. Shark Drake is strong, and now that it's in control of Leon, it's not gonna get kicked out too easily. Well, that's something to worry about later." He turned to Mikey and Blazey. "Yeah, Numbers are real, although I assume you'd already guessed that. Some of the Numbers are nice, like the ones Leon and Amber normally have, but some aren't so nice. Shark Drake, Number 32, is a bad one. Leon has it, and it apparently managed to possess him. Which is bad." He turned back to the duel. "Nothing to do yet, though...let's wait until Leon has Number 2 back."

He looked at the girl, his thoughts shifting almost physically in his brain from Drive to Park, he stood there and his demeanor completely changed. " ah, pardon me miss, I really didn't mean to bump into you...." he even bowed down to her. "I try to go ahead and be a kind and courteous soul, I've just had a lot on my mind...." As his head slowly went up he saw her duel-pad. "Ah I see your a duelist.....obviously from the tournament I assume?" he asked bluntly. He felt something....maybe just his gut wrenching from earlier, but she had that "scent" either she had dueled someone with a Number, or she held one herself....but she was taking her time to duel an obvious non-number holder. This probably helped in his cause, if she did turn out to be a Number holder, then it would slightly prove his theory that they can't sense each other. If she did not have a Number, then this would just be another duelist, either way, she was perfect.

Mikey nodded. "I see. So this could get really dangerous...We should stay at a safe distance. Not like I have supernatural defenses." That was a lie through his teeth. Sometimes, his cards...did weird stuff. He'd sometimes wake up to find himself in Skyscraper, being confronted by his heroes. Now that he knew the Numbers were real, he'd have to keep his guard up. "Anything we can do to protect Leon? He's a cool guy, and Amber really cares about him. I think. I wouldn't want that to be ruined for them. So how can we help?" he asked, motioning to Blazey behind him.

Jenna blinked at Josep's apologetic, almost submissive attitude, but the corners of her mouth twitched. "Yes, I'm participating in the WDC," she answered with a vaguely curt tone, taken aback by his lack of indignation, but deciding to just roll with it and see what he was going to do next. "Most people here are," she continued, gesturing widely to the surrounding area. "Unfortunately, so many of them seem to be lost in their own world, so finding a Duel has been a bit difficult as of late."

She held up her Heart Piece frame to reveal her two pieces, confirming her continued presence in the tournament. "I take it that you are participating as well? If so, we could have a Duel, provided you have a Heart Piece to wager, and the time to dance," she said, betraying a hint of smugness in her voice.

His eyes locked on the heart piece, he still needed them to go ahead and get ahead in the tournament, all of the "Number Holders" were here, which meant that he needed them to have his chance, luckily for him one of his own pieces was....useless to him in the first place, but as a wager, it was perfect. "I think my schedule just opened up for a dance, I just hope not to make a fool of myself on the field". he joked as he normally would, this would be different from other duels, especially if she did have a "Number" Just what would happen in a duel like this...he wasn't sure, but he knew one thing, it wouldn't be a walk in the park for his physical well being...lately his deck had been...wonky....too say the least, the last duel...while easy, hurt him severely, let alone what a Duel with an apparent evil archetype like the Numbers could cause.

"I've found it difficult to find an opponent as well, it seems everyone is interested in a certain archetype today, wonder if they've asked you if you have a....I believe they're called...Numbers?" he asked calmly, no sign of him knowing what they were in his voice....though if she were a really good liar, she'd have just as good a response.

"Numbers?" Jenna repeated, genuinely taken by surprise at the mention. For the briefest of moments, her hand twitched towards the Deck box that contained her Extra Deck, but the motion was so small that even she was unaware of the slip. An indifferent smile flickered across her features. "No one has asked me anything of the sort," she replied, both sincere and yet wary. No one had mentioned the Numbers to her, and until now, she was scarcely aware that there were more of them.

Logically speaking, there'd have to be, otherwise whomever designed the card was insane, to give it such a random name and an effect involving other members of a "non-existant" archetype.

"So then, shall we Duel?" she asked rhethoically, already placing her Deck into her Duel Disk slot and activating the Duel mode upon it. The card slots clicked into place, and she carefully placed her D-Gazer over her eye, awaiting him to do likewise to complete the link. Her Deck shuffled with a quiet whirring motion, and she casually flicked five cards from the top into her hand, not even looking at them.

"So, who should go first?" she asked.

He noticed her vacant expression for just a few seconds, there wasn't much more to say, but the small twitch in her shoulder seemed she had heard of it, that was all he needed, her scent was more clear....but her eyes said she was surprised, genuinely, perhaps she never knew that others existed, meaning she might not be possessed by hers.....yet, he would definitely have to find out during the duel.

"Well, since I so rudely bumped into you, I feel you should be the first to take a turn, my old Duel Disk takes a while to start up anyway". He took his time as the old Duel disk worked to make it;self compatible with his D-gazer once again. While it did he slowly slid 5 cards out of the deck holder and looked at them in his hand, thinking of what to do for the first turn.

"Sounds good to me!" Jenna said, her enthusiasm for the Duel surfacing, and she drew her card for the turn. A display flashed above her with her name and LP. She took a moment to inspect the cards in hand, a momentary glitter in her eyes the only indication of her thoughts on them. "I start with the Spell Card Terraforming!"

The Spell card turned over, displaying its text to Josep. "This Spell adds one Field Spell from my Deck to my hand," she explained, sliding a card from her Deck. "I'll immediately activate the card I chose: Advanced Dark!"

As the card was slid into the Field Zone, a blue rune-covered ring surrounded her, then expanded to surround the entire Field. Jenna gazed at the circle fondly, yet gave no explanation for it.

"I Summon Advanced Crystal Beast Topaz Tiger!" she continued. From the Field in front of her, a large, feral-looking tiger emerged onto the field, a blade fixed upon its forehead and what could best be described as armored bracers on its legs. It glared fiercely at Josep. (Lvl 4, 1600/1000)

"Next, I activate the Continuous Spell Card, Crystal Tree," Jenna continued, now sounding a bit smug. A small sapling formed behind the tiger, its branches bare. "I'll discuss that when it's relevent. I'll place one card facedown, and end my turn!" A card formed beside the tree, and Jenna flashed a smirk in Josep's direction.

'First turn and something this creepy appears already?" Josep looked around at the field, it was quite the sight to behold, as if the whole field was left in nothing but the darkness exuded by the familiar archetype. "Crystal Beasts? no...these are stronger.....but, does that change the playing style? I'll soon find out.... I Draw!"

He pulled his first card with quite an unnecessary amount of force, the first card in his hand was already what he would choose to play. "Ready? I'll start by placing two cards in my back row". Two card holograms appeared next to him, and then a roar was heard from Josep's hand.....still, Josep heard nothing. "Now then, I think I'll go ahead and summon Red-Eyes Wyvern! (1800/1600) in attack position."

The black scaled dragon flew into the field and stared down the tiger against him, but did nothing, simply standing. "Any response to my Dragons summon miss?" he asked courteously. "If not, Red-eyes is getting a nice break from his constant tribute fodder and into the front lines itself!"

"Hey, how's it hanging, everybody?" - Leon waved, as the people from before came back. When Neo got too close, Leon took a step back and pushed him, taking a more serious, almost angry face. - "Don't touch me, you pathetic weakling. You lost me once, and only once, you'll regret not having my power to aid you. Off with you!" - Leon walked away, and noticed Blazey and Mikey. He walked to them, with a new grin on his face - "My old friends, how are you doing? Are you getting enough Heart Pieces? If Amber loses, I'll have none!" - Leon laughed, as if he didn't remember what he just said to Neo - "Is everything okay? You guys look worried..."

"I'm sick and tired of your slow moves, DRAW!"
(4 cards in hand)

"Finally...you wanted to say goodbye to Zebulos, right? Hehehe...first, I activate my face-down Trap Stun! No traps for you now!"

"Also, I activate my face-down Foolish Burial! I send my Oppressed People to the grave from the deck, and I Flip Summon Spirit Caller (1000/1000)! With its effect, I summon the Oppressed People I just sent to the Grave." - A spellcaster in white robes appeared, chanting a spell that revived a second group of slaves.

"One last thing...I Flip Summon, Volcanic Rat (500/500)! And...it's time. I overlay Volcanic Rat, and 2 Oppressed People(s?), Xyz Summon, Number 83..." - the 3 monsters became black orbs, spinning so fast that they formed a vortex. The vortex imploded, and a redhead queen with a crystal staff appeared from it - "...Galaxy Queen (500/500)."

"Teehee, I'm not done yet. First, I Normal Summon Bright Star Dragon (1900/1000) and activate its effect, changing Archfiend Mirror to Level 4. Right now...Xyz Summon, Number 93...you'll be able to say hello and goodbye, b*tch. RK King, El Zebulos! (1800/1500)" - the vortex was formed again but with two golden orbs, which released Zebulos. He looked weak, and hurt; his armor and his sword were gone, and he had a chain wrapped around his neck, like a dog. He was bleeding from multiple cuts.

"Sorry...M'lady...I don't want to do this."

"You'll like it, trust me. I detach 1 Xyz Material from Galaxy Queen, now my monsters won't be destroyed by battle on the next turn, and I have Piercing Damage. Unfortunately, Aivea hadn't taken into account that Rai's suit . . . . was made of rubber. Waterproof rubber, but rubber nonetheless, and since rubber is a good insulator of electricity, he was protected. More or less. The electricity still got to him through the torn parts of his superhero outfit, and knew that he wouldn't be able to endure a second one. Thus, that was why he stayed down, playing unconsciousness, gathering his strength. Then, after he thought he finally had enough strength, he suddenly got back up and made a run for it.

He dashed around a corner, trying to avoid as many people as possible, and ran away. Alright, that was just what cowards did for sure, but his costume was ruined, and plus he didn't really like his identity as part-mechanical being revealed. He was well aware he had lost his Number. But he was also well aware that his mind was starting to clear without the presence of the lightning Number. And then - after he finally reached his home and changed into a second superhero outfit -identical to the first, but undamaged-, he sat down and tried to think of a course of action.

Should I continue to play in the World Duel Carnival? He asked himself. The Numbers had been the entire point, but without Thunder Spark Dragon . . . . why should I continue? If I stop here, there won't be anymore trouble. I'm lucky I got out of everything alive. . . .

Then he decided.

But I still have to stop the Numbers! My former precious friend 91 in particular.

And he began to rearrange his deck.
