"What?" III blurted, looking up at the floating castle in time to see it sucked into a dimensional void, the Overlay Units shattering as if they had never existed. The boy stared at the space the Number had inhabited in stunned silence for several moments, then scowled, his first true loss of composure since the Duel began.

"My turn, draw!" III stated, drawing with greater vigor than usual. He studied the lone card, then gestured to his facedown card. "Trap Activate! Xyz Reborn! This card Special Summons an Xyz Monster from my Graveyard and this card becomes an Overlay Unit. Revive, OOPArts Crystal Xenoform!"

A hole opened in the ground and the crystalline alien emerged from it, the Trap Card shimmering and transforming into a sphere of light that swiftly began orbiting the Xyz monster. (Rank 3, 2100/1000) (Overlay 0->1)

"Thanks to my Pyramid Eye Tablet, my Crystal Xenoform gains 800 ATK," III continued, an aura surrounding his Xyz monster. (ATK: 2100 -> 2900)

"Numbers can only be defeated in battle with other Numbers...but you'll still take the Damage!" III reminded Palir. "This is the end! Go, Crystal Xenoform, attack his Artillery Unit!"

The purple creature raised its arms, conjuring a bolt of energy and launching it towards Palir's Number.

While Palir had said that he would guard Number 42 'this time', he hadn't had any way to actually do so. So when the revived "Crystal Xenoform" attacked, there was nothing he could do. [color=#006400]NO! Not again... This happened last time... I failed again... [b]AUUUGHH![/b][/color] The final grunt/scream comes as Palir, who had stood up after the recoil of "Number 42"'s effect, is blown backwards by the impact, his Heart Pieces in their frame bouncing out of his pocket and his mask falling off of his face, showing an expression of despair on the half that remained. As his Life Points drop to 0, the AR screens declare III the winner and the lights in Palir's eyes go out, though the gears visible in the left half of his face remain spinning.

As the AR field around them disappeared, III let out a breath he hadn't realized he had been holding. While he was always considered reliable among his siblings, it still worried him at times that he wouldn't be able to fulfill expectations every time.

[i]First things first...[/i]III thought to himself, raising his left hand, the green crest upon it glowing vibrantly. A shadow of the marking launched forward, coming in contact with Palir's body before disappearing, the number 42 on the clockwork duelist's shoulder fading away like the holograms of the Duel.

The black-bordered card then formed within III's hand, and he studied it thoughtfully. There was a moment's tingling sensation as the Number attempted to bond, as many of them seemed to do when changing holders, but the feeling vanished swiftly, blocked out by the glowing mark on his hand. III slipped the card into his Extra Deck, deactivating his Disk and walking over to the fallen Palir, concern etching its way onto his face.

He knelt, picking up the dropped Heart Piece, and then examined Palir tentatively. He doubted any severe damage had been done to the Duelist, aided by the fact he hadn't used his Number to end the Duel, but at the same time, it wouldn't feel right to just leave him laying there without at the very least ensuring he was okay.

[color=#006400]Where... where am I... mask... where is my... mask?[/color] Palir woke confusedly, still laying on his back. He blinked; someone with green eyes and pinkish hair was looking down at him. [color=#006400]Augh! Don't look![/color] Without looking for his mask, he raised his still transformed left arm to cover the damaged part of his face, and he sat up. [color=#006400]You're... III, right? I... lost.[/color] He looked around, seeing his cards scattered on the ground but not really paying any attention to them. [color=#006400]It happened again... every time... every time it's... been my fault.[/color] Finally seeing his mask, he grabbed it and returned it to his face, also returning his arm to its normal state. He gave a short, tired chuckle. [color=#006400]I guess that... this means I'm... out of the... WDC. I'll probably... try to help... other people with... Numbers to prevent... any more chaos.[/color]

III glanced down, spotting the second shard of Palir's Heart Piece among the fallen cards. Unless the duelist abandoned his Deck, he would find that the tournament wasn't over for him, so he didn't bother to contradict that statement. He only needed one Heart Piece to spare, and even if he lost them all, he expected that IV would collect a greater number of them. Popular duel champions did tend to attract subpar opponents whose dream was to face their idol.

"It was a good duel," he said brightly, offering a hand to help Palir up. He felt no guilt for removing the Number from Palir's possession. Better him doing it than one of his siblings, really. IV wasn't exactly a graceful winner.

I assume that you come here for my Number, after all...am I right?"[/color] - he pulled a black Xyz monster from his pocket, revealing the number 83 on its name - [color=#b22222]"You don't have to be scared baby, I'm a gentleman."[/color] - the man winked at Amber, giving a more perverted look (if something like that was possible).

[color=#800080]"HEY. Dude, cut it out, ok? You wanna duel her, It's fine, but leave her alone."[/color] - Leon walked in between Amber and the man.

Still, even if the man didn't know them, Leon would try to punch him (probably getting killed) if he kept flirting with Amber.

Sonya's heart was beating fast: Zebulos was so close to her, their eyes were locked. Sonya leaped at Zebulos's face, and kissed him on the lips. Zebulos was blushing quite a bit under his furry bead and mustache, as Sonya reacted the way she did. However, he still gave a hint of a smile. [color=#008080][i]"Y-yes well.. I uh... I best be going, Amber seems to be wired up for another Duel."[/i][/color] He said as his spirit returned to the card in Amber's Pocket.

[b]"Alright Sweety"[/b] Said Amber, slightly confused, but she chose not to question it. [b]"Alright.. My turn first then huh..? Alright we'll start with 4000 life Points. And I guess it's only appropriate that I use my number's Deck..."[/b]

Amber flipped her Goggles over her head and activated the built-in D-Gazer, turning it's respective lens orange. She then slipped her Rocket Knight Deck into her Duel Disc and got things started as she drew her first six cards. The hand she had was mediocre, but she could still work with it.

After making sure his mask was once again secure, Palir accepted III's hand and stood up. He merely nodded at III's comment then looked at the ground again, this time noticing his fallen cards and his Heart Piece. [color=#006400]Thank you.[/color] He gathered up his cards, brushing the dust off and checking for bends, then picked up his remaining Heart Piece. He looked back at the fallen Rai; he'd been so focused on his duel he hadn't noticed Aivea halting his escape. Deciding to deal with him later, if ever, Palir made a slight bow to Dr. Faker, who was still standing about 10 feet away, and turned to leave.

"Good luck," III said, giving a polite nod and turning away. As he walked away, the green marking on his arm glowed and a shimmering portal formed, the boy disappearing within it before anyone could really register the appearance. To the majority of onlookers, it would appear as if he literally disappeared into thin air.

He would present his new Number collected and probably report Dr. Faker's appearance before returning to the tournament scene.

Jenna was now becoming slightly impatient. How could it be so difficult to find a worthy opponent around here? There were tons of Duelists in the city, yet she was having trouble finding someone to defeat. Maybe simply walking around wasn't enough and she'd need to do something to attract someone's attention first.

She gazed around briefly, contemplating how best to get that sort of attention.

A bolt of energy struck the man's trap card and sent it to the graveyard <-- Assuming no response.

As Amber revealed her monsters, She revealed a Badger-like character and her favorite cat-like character.

As Berry vanished into the graveyard, The earth started to shake as a giant Blue Fighting Robot came up out of the ground. It then automatically turned to Defense mode due to it's effect.

It was right then, Amber came to, and realized that her Number was no longer on her person, and two piece were missing from her Heart Frame.

[/color]- the man shuffle Zebulos into his Extra Deck and started walking away from them.

Leon heard a voice, but it was too low for him to distinguish it, and it was soon muffled. Next time...I'll help you get Zebulos back...I promise"[/color] - He placed his head next to her's and kissed her forehead.

Some out of pity, and others were simply amused.

If only she had any idea that the man she just dueled with cheated to get that combo out on the field. Such a shame... Zebulos told me to protect you, and that's what I'll do. And even if he hadn't said it...I want to do it. I'll protect you with my life because..."[/color] - Leon looked at Amber's eyes, trying to articulate the words he was dying to say for a long time - [color=#800080]"I love you Amber...I...really do."[/color]

Amber's eyes widened as she heard those word come from Leon... They had only known each other for barely a day, but somehow, there was already this deep connection between them. Amber tears had stopped as she leaned forward to hug him.

Right now, it was only natural for her to have some small amount of doubt in her heart at this point, It was bad enough she had lost her own number, it would only be worse if she lost someone else's card.

He was scared, scared of what the evil Number could do to him - [color=#800080]"Please...don't say anything else, I want you to take her, at least for this duel. Bargain all 4 Heart Pieces and Sonya, win your Pieces back, his pieces, Zebulos and his Number. And remember that, no matter what..."[/color] - Leon looked up, his heart beating fast. He leaned forward, and kissed Amber while still hugging her. After some seconds he leaned back, and smiled - [color=#800080]"...You'll never lose me." [/color]- he held Amber's hand, and started running toward the place the man had walked to.
