Black Metal
Black Metal, an extremely hardcore music genre with high vocals and gives you a dark feeling. Death Metal is almost the same thing but with deeper growls and is slightly more hardcore. I prefer Black Metal because I mostly listen to Black Metal bands such as Samael, Venom, Nocturnal Depression, and Fractured Fairy Tales. But I hate the anti-christian in most of these bands. Anyway, discuss about these two types of metal and put in some of your favorite metal bands if you'd like :
Enrise
Eury and Death Metal would so agree with me. I personally don't mind the anti-christian/Satanist themes, sometimes I love them. If they make it sound decent. If they just go all, "I HATE GOD, JESUS SUCKS. SATAN RULES," I just say no. But if they make it sound very interesting with a twist and play on words, and all that neat stuff, for example (I made this up), "Praise me, for your dreams of seeing jesus, Are as lurid as your book of lies, Now throw your book into the hellfire lake, And serve me your master, Lord Satan!" Made up on the spot. I know. But yeah, I always pay attention to the lyrics. And I even like Black/Death Metal bands that don't include Satanic/Antichrist imagery and lyrical themes, like Blood Stain Child and Prostitute Disfigurement. Silent Descent and Emperor. As for the instrumentals, I don't typically agree that Death Metal is more extreme than Black Metal. I'd say it's more dependent on the artist itself. Generally it is seen that Death Metal is more extreme, true. But I've seen a few Black Metal bands that are pretty damn extreme.
Black Metal
I agree with you that Black Metal is more hardcore than Death Metal, but it matters what bands are playing though.
Poc
A lot of the super extreme black metal bands lean more towards death metal than true black metal (like behemoth, nile, ect. There more blackened death metal that straight up black metal.). Most black metal is pretty bad too, but there are some artists that really catch your attention and make you want to listen. Mr.Robot
Why do people keep associating Death Metal and Black Metal? Well, at least it's better than the comparison of Death Metal and Deathcore. Anyway, my favorite death metal band:

And you have to consider the different subgenres of death metal. I think comparing Augury (technical death metal) with Born of Osiris (technical deathcore) is better than comparing Alghazanth to Cannibal Corpse. Deathcore is what it is: death metal and hardcore. John A. Zoidberg
Oh god. Black Metal and Death Metal really aren't very similar. They have some similarities, but if you were to group genres together based off of slight similarities, then this would just turn into "The Official Metal Thread Number 2." Otherwise, Behemoth is an entry level Black Metal band. If you want awesome Black Metal, check out Wolves in the Throne Room. There are some others I have to offer, but WITTR is just great. Death Metal, however, is a ridiculously broad genre in its own, especially considering how many subgenres branch from Death Metal alone (Deathcore, Technical Death Metal, Melodic Death Metal, etc.). If you were to say, "My favorite Death Metal band is ______," then you'd better know how to accurately compare at least ten different genres. Enrise
Behemoth is an entry level Black Metal band.
I'm gonna have to respectively disagree with you on that. Earlier, Behemoth was considered Black Metal, since their creation in '91, but not about Satanism or anything direct. They were more Paganistic with their works. It was later, '98 that they started to get into the Satanism, but they also combined a bit of Death Metal into their works. Not so much that's it more Death Metal, but more like a mix between that and Black Metal with their own sense of style. To say they're an entry level Black Metal band is disgraceful in my opinion. John A. Zoidberg
I think you misinterpreted "entry level." I did not say that they were one of the first black metal bands, I said that they're generally one of the bands that you get into when you first start listening to black metal. The fact that they have that Death Metal influence and styling is why they're entry level- people find it easier to get into.
.Rai
I've never really touched black metal simply because of its rather...controversial reputation. Death metal's a decent genre to go into though. I've always found melodic variants more interesting.
Death Metal
Did someone say my name? No? Well I love far too many bands to be bothered to put them all. I am a HUGE fan of both though.

Though, I personally don't like the term "entry level" now that I think about it. EDIT: Death, I called you, my brother in arms.

Lazer Yoshi
For me, these genres are a hit-and-miss kind of thing. There are some bands that I find awesome, and some that I find a complete joke.
