Night Posted April 21, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 21, 2012
Alright, I'm gonna start things off with this. Comments? Advice?
The only advice I can give you really is to look up more tutorials. I realize a lot of beginners don't really like doing this, they would prefer visual assistance. When I first started, tuts were useless to me, but when I found a video tutorial I really got the hang of it. I've found a couple for you guys: In some the links to the resources are in the description so be sure to use them as you follow the tutorial. [PS] This one is decent for beginners looking to smudge, it provides most of the basics; https://www.youtube....feature=related [GIMP] https://www.youtube....&feature=fvwrel The tutorial maker provides many resources for use, so it's very easy to keep up with what he's doing. [PS] This tut is not bad for the introduction of fractals; https://www.youtube....feature=related [GIMP] This tut introduces c4d's, it's actually one of the first tuts I personally used to learn. He does go a bit fast in the tut so pay attention; https://www.youtube....feature=related [PS] This is a bit higher tier, be sure to watch the other three first. It comes in two parts, so it's more in-depth; https://www.youtube....feature=related Hope it helps anyone took me a while to find all of these videos, I also watch each one fully to make sure It was of quality. Clearly most of these tag makers are of novice tier, and they will provide you with some misleading advice, but for the most part it'll be very helpful if you're just getting into tag making. Thar Posted April 21, 2012 Report Share Posted April 21, 2012 It seems I can't post a graphic design piece without everyone expecting it to be a sig or tag. It's not. It's just a conceptual photo-montage that I threw together.
Finally got me GIMP Its confusing though! Comments? Advice?
As a photomontage, it's a great concept but really, really rough around the edges. There's no need to mask it all in filters and weird effects, unless the images you had were low-quality. Which is why I suggest you really spend a while searching and downloading stock photos and resources. Such an important step to have high quality photos. Night Posted April 22, 2012 Author Report Share Posted April 22, 2012 So here's what I've gathered thus far;

Upon Hioco's return, SC begins to show some promise.
Vets returned, avg. artists thrived for a bit, and newbies surfaced.
The community is active, SC is experiencing a golden age of sorts.
Hioco leaves, SC dies down.
Vets leave, artists no longer produce anything.
Newbies are left with no guidance.
Am I not the only to see the pattern here? Or can it only be seen when put into text. If this isn't proof we need a second active mod I do not know what is. So let's have an actual discussion on the topic. I'm curious as to what the members think on the subject. I feel that's the pattern in Showcase. It's a boom and bust spiral. Every so often, we get a rather nice burst of activity before it dies down again in waves. Showcase really needs to...stabilise.
I've pondered the thought of it time and time again, only due to the fact that when I take into account who is fit for the job, no one comes to mind. And of course the moderator to be, should not be delegated by how well they are at the craft. Take Yin for example, an excellent mod without needing to fully grasp the craft in any way. I've also spoken with Yin on the subject of my role in the Graphic Design section, for the most part I believe she is more than willing to have an active mod on board. Hioco himself actually sent me a pm on this very subject, he too believes I am capable for the position. Sure most aspire to become a moderator, however it isn't about what I want, it's about what [s]Gotham[/s] Graphic Design needs. Like Rai said, stability is key. How can we desire stability when the very ones who lead us lack stability. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Yin, or Hioco (if he comes back), should bring the issue up in the mod forums. 2. Encourage more people to post in Showcase to give the experts and the mods a reason to stay there and help out. 3. Have a reward system (like the Treasury thing we were gonna do). We could bring this back after doing the second thing mentioned here. It's hard, but it's technically possible. Catman25 Posted April 23, 2012 Report Share Posted April 23, 2012 In regards to the mod thing: It wouldn't hurt, but what would the benefits be? Sure there may be a trend, but Hioco if I'm not mistaken came back during the midst of the "revival". Don't get me wrong, NW would obviously make a great showcase moderator, I just can't say that adding another mod would boost activity any more than not having another mod.
I don't think it would boost anything, but that is not the idea. Sure we want to be stabalized, but that would come as we change Showcase. We should morely focus on how we are going to change it first off, with ideas. Like the original 5 ideas that NW started at the beginning of the year. If it looks changed, we welcome more members who seem really interested in learning, we then would start the community over again. If we, also, make more items to show what we are capable of with CnCing on other pieces, we can increase activity like we did before. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
.Rai Posted April 23, 2012 Report Share Posted April 23, 2012 Assuming we get the community going again, a mod should /help/ stabilising the community after we actually have one. Just so there's some sort of leadership with power. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
