CrystalCyae
Since I've yet to see the movie, my judgement probably ain't good, but heck, who cares?
I'm still a bit questioning on the camoflauge thing with Peeta. I even was when I read the books. "Oh, I decorated cakes!" I'm like, "I don't think it works like that..."
This is Peeta we're talking about. It will always work like that. Always.
I found the book depressing, actually. The movie was better.
You and me both. The book bit, at least. But, for me, it was probably because that
Peeta lost his leg business
is something that will turn me away from loads of books. Agaming
Lol i had to read the last book's ending a few times to understand what happens and i can't believe
Prim dies
but i'm looking forward to the next movie, however films hardly ever are better than the books
Lucifer the Wise
but i'm looking forward to the next movie, however films hardly ever are better than the books
There are those rare instances though. For instance I thought a few Harry Potter movies were better than their book counterparts, not all but some. I also *Obviously* felt The Hunger Games movie was better than the book and I felt Appaloosa movie was better than the book. Those are just my opinions however and I can only speak for myself. I just have those moments where I feel a movie has surpassed its book counterpart.
Ren✧
I loved the books and the movie. Although I do have to admit that the books are predictable and don't take too much thinking to understand, they are a nice way to lose the worries of reality in the small reprieve of fiction. Anyway back on topic: Yes, the movie did cut somethings and add somethings, but that doesn't make it a bad movie. I thought all and all it was a great movie, especially if you didn't read the books. Although things seemed to move too slowly before Katniss enters the arena and too quickly after she gets in there. I thought the way they killed off the gamemaker was fabulous, a real nice touch. Also, the humor when Rue stole the knife and caused the fight in training wasn't bad either. It is the little things they add in there that you start to appreciate. I was a bit upset about the fact that Katniss doesn't get the pin from Madge, and that may end up biting the directors later...but the way she did get it wasn't as horrendous as the trailers led me to believe. Originally, I thought Cinna gave it to her in the movie. There were a few small things that irked me slightly, but they kept all the main points of the story. Brushfire
Look at my avatar... and that was ages ago that I had this! Right okay, so quite obviously I am a huge fan of the books and had really high expectations for this movie. [s]I'm not going to use a spoiler tag because if you're reading this thread then you really should've seen the film, sorry- this is for discussion after all, not for you to find out if it's worth watching or not.[/s] This sounds horrible and therefore the rest of this post is now in a spoiler tag.
I personally... really didn't like the way it was produced, now this could be for a few reasons and I'll admit that these things bugged me a lot less the second time that I went to the cinema to watch it (saw it the day before it came out because of a staff preview, hell yeah!). Firstly, I felt that everything about from the Capital had a very niché feel about it and for such a large budget movie this was surprising. I never felt that the palettes chosen kept me engaged. You can tell where most of the budget went. The cinematography bugged me so f***ing much it was unreal, a lot less the second time but the decision to go for a shaky camera really irked me. I just felt that a lot of the time it really wasn't needed, especially during the reaping. I felt no tension during that scene and that was nothing to do with the fact that I had read the book, it just felt really amateur. There are correct times to go for a handheld camera approach. All of the time is not one of them. Decision not to include Madge Undersee and have Greasy Sae give the Mockingjay pin was a strange one. I felt it undermined the importance of the pin but ah well, I can get over that. Having more shots of Gale in the film? Not a problem, but sometimes it did kind of feel like they were going, "oh you know who we haven't seen in a while? Gale! Heyyy there he is looking all sad and stuff, now back to the games". I'll continue with my personal negatives for a bit. I know they wanted to make it a 12A to appeal to a wider audience, I really do understand that but... lets be honest here, the books deserved more. This is a film about children being forced to murder each other and having such a low rating made the deaths very poor in the end. The guy from District 4 who gets his neck broken? Looked really unrealistic. And Thresh to Clove... no rocks around to smash her skull in with for a really gruesome death? Ah lets just use this conveniently placed Cornucopia that's supposed to be a golden horn and really couldn't be further from it! Rue's death was okay, but that was a really touching moment in the book. Two of my friends cried at it in the book... in the film, couldn't have been more poker face. Despite this, there were many things that I really loved about it too. The little touch during the games where they *spoilers* reference Haymitch's victory in the games by making her get away from the edge, that was really cool *spoilers*. The Capital sets looked absolutely fantastic, especially the Gamemaker room, that was a great idea. Crane's death was a lovely touch too (although the picture where the berries are replaced by a razor is just the best thing ever). I thought the casting was absolutely perfecting and the acting was what really drove the film up in my books to ensure that I wasn't really disappointed. I actually quite like the film and I think Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson do a fantastic job. They're great people too and that's always wonderful to have. At the end of the day I love The Hunger Games so I can't not love this film. And I'm Team Haymitch all the way, man he soared his way up to being my favourite character in the film. Legend. The only thing that really irked me was the ending, with the decision to not include Peeta's fake leg or the most important line, "It was all for the games". It'll be interesting to see what they do with it. And I think I'll end with... CAVE. SCENE.
NeoDemonX
I really really like this movie and this movie was so good that I got 2 and half bags of popcorn. I cant wait for Catching Fire, but have to wait for X-Men First Class 2 because Jennifer Lawrence is going to be in that too. Also I read all the Hunger Games book and the first movie did miss a few things.

Pichu
Well I clearly like Rue :') I thought the movie was great and just as good as the books! But there could have been more Gale. And well, I dunno, I think he wasn't focused on very much in the first book, his character really comes out in the other two rather than The Hunger Games. For how important he is, I can see where you're coming from though.
Pichu
I have read the entire series. It will always be one of favorite series of books. Gale was really brought out more in the next two, but the movie could have done better. The movie's changes were thought out and well done, but some failed. I'm almost positive that the Carrer that killed Rue was shot in the neck, not chest. Well, it doesn't matter, I still bawled my eyes out and I knew it was coming. Brushfire
I'm surprised that you don't hate Gale then... for y'know. <<the ultimate spoiler>> Oh and yeah, Marvel does get shot in the neck. What bothered me more was the deaths of the guy from District 4 (I mean seriously, that neck break didn't give him any justice) and Clove. But that's what happens when you lower the rating of something to attempt to make it appeal to a wider audience.
Pichu
This movie really pushed what to put on PG-13 rating. The neck break was just out of place and Clove's death irritated me. And those dogs... I about pissed myself when they jumped out, but I laughed when they killed Cato.
