Duel Portal - Duel with your created cards [SUPPORT THREAD] [ONLINE]

It's difficult to say when it will officially be out. I still have to find a good server, then do some testing on that.

Don't rush, we really shouldn't be giving up on the old version right away just to have you "rush" the Online Version... especially since you're the only one really doing any work while the rest just throw requests/complaints at you (which won't stop when this is done anyway).

We all know what will happen Day One. You'll find a server to get all this on, we'll CRASH it throwing in all our old cards for making the original decks and the new cards in the first hours and complain (possibly that you its your fault). There's also the fact that much like Shriek, you'll have a lot of people killing server load on a regular basis while not paying for said server. Maybe you should look into what those Minecraft and Ragnarok online people do? I will ask Shriek what he uses again ever since he switched to his own server.

Betas are always useful for these kinds of things, you can't always value that what you're doing will work the same way as it might do on other people's computers. I don't think he's rushing this, and he probably shouldn't either.

How exactly would he beta this? That would be like "testing" out the games on Newgrounds.

Sounds more like people just wanting to get to play with it early. He can do that himself with personal friends, especially ones who will actually know how to identify and catch bugs. Us here would just get in the way and be more concerned with "getting to play it".

Sort of the problem with public beta-testers. A quarter of them actually help and the rest just play, feeling "special" about themselves for getting in. Elitism would be rampant on YCM for something like that.

Besides, this isn't exactly Android and we all have different versions of the same program with all different tweaks. It's essentially flash and if it doesn't work for you, it's not something he can (or should have to work to) fix. Since it's on Silverlight, he'll just have to test it on Firefox, IE and Chrome anyway on his own; that's not something we have to bother him with that he couldn't with his friends. Again, I don't see why we need to get in the way.

Betas are extreamly important, and I'm not saying that anyone should just get an early copy, of course it would have to people who specificly want to help him fix bugs. I also forgot that it was a web based game, silly me, though there should still be different web browers that might work different on different computers, though I'm no expert in this, so don't take my word for it.

Betas and testing are important... PUBLIC Betas are not.  Public betas are about free marketing of a product and never have been about anything more than that.

Again, he can get people to help him in private that he trust a hell of a lot more than people here.

Thanks guys :) I had another project which took over priority for a while, but now I'll get back on Duel Portal.

I've found a server, it's just a matter of getting everything configured and working.

Incidentally, are you paying for it for yourself or did you strike a deal with someone to be on a server?

How much a month if you are paying for it?

It's a cheap one, a little over $1 a month.

That's really nice of you, but see above post.. it won't be necessary.

I've certainly donated to things I support if they do good works on a regular basis.  I regularly donate to TV-Nihon.  It just depends on the "product" or "service" being given.

Some people watch Crunchyroll for free, others support the business by paying for a subscription, this would be no different depending on how well it works and how often a person uses it without issue.

Still, he did say it was only a buck a month, but I suppose there could be something down the line to help other problems.

Also, I don't think we will be on the same version of this program in two years... let alone the same servers.

Explain the bold, i don't know what you mean.

He's asking when the Online Version will be done (which he shouldn't because it's been answered on the previous page).

ETA = Estimated Time of Arrival.

Answer of course is unknown, possibly two months give or take how much testing is needed and server stress testing and browser compatiblity (though, it's on Silverlight, so IE7 is a given but most of us are on Firefox or Chrome).
