The only banlist needed is the official TCG banlist

But we are using custom cards... meaning that tournaments and advanced matches/duel need a banlist to protect players from broken or overpowered cards. of course their would still be an Unlimited format so that players can player against friends with their own custom cards no matter how broken or overpowered.

Even if sea did have a banlist across DP, it'll be hard for him to determine an appropriate spot on the list. That, and as more people upload cards, it'll require more evaluation into what the interactions are with those.

If you haven't noticed, the DP format had its own banlist given the card pool, and even with three people, it takes a good while to figure out what the interactions are in their format (and with the accepted pool). Although part of it was the TCG banlist with some minor changes.

I suppose sea could get help with looking over the pool, but even then, they have a lot more things to deal with. Plus, some of the cards on there are inaccessible to other members at this time; last time I checked.

Woohoo, I'll toss some ideas into the pot!

1st off, banlists are unnecessary to consider at this point, since this kind of site is used for custom (and completely modifiable) cards. We're not trying to establish formats when first making the site, so the concerns should be about improving the site itself.

2nd, having an admin-based system is an absolutely brilliant idea, but managing every single card uploaded by a plethora of people is a lot to ask of what's basically people donating their time. Instead, I propose the following ideas:

  • Have a card & user rating system. The previous system (which was soon removed) could be improved upon, by giving users a profile page, and letting other members upvote or downvote said user. In a similar vein, perhaps in the middle of a duel or on the user's page, you can click on individual cards and expand them, then vote on the card from there.
  • Let's expand on the "expanding cards" idea. This is how it'd work: During the middle of a game, you can click on any card on the field, in the Graveyard, or that is banished, and be able to see its image, card text, stats, and have a scale to rate the card. This gives players a more intuitive way to read the cards as they're played, and be able to provide immediate feedback towards the card. This can also be used in conjunction w/ the profile page idea, giving a history of recently created cards that you can view and rate on.

Here are some extra fluff ideas that would be nice:

  • Customizable card backs: Why not add uploadable card backs that pertain to the same rules & guidelines as the other images? This would give custom CC's more freedom to distinguish themselves, or provide users with more ways to express their creations.

I'll be adding more in a few. I understand the complications and limitations w/ software development in a new program, but hopefully these ideas help out some. Best of luck w/ development, and I look forward to future updates!

I still don't see the reason

Some thoughts on the banlist & other suggestions...

But that is just an idea, but for when Duel Portal is updated into its new engine, and with flood of new players which is sure to come. Now since any cards are allowed to be made and submitted in Duel Portal what we need is Admins that can screen through these cards.

1: Admins need to be able to ,"Remove" offensive and Troll Cards. (Troll meaning made for no reason or sense)

2: Admins need to be able to take cards made monthly and create a custom ban-list with these added cards, as to make it balanced.

3: We need two Separate Game types Custom and Normal, So that players who want to play the regular game can and those who want to Play Duel Portal can.

I think if you want more balancing & control, a CCG is better. Having admins requires 1. People who are willing to sign up, and 2. Having them constantly edit the never-ending stream of cards.

Currently with a CCG, some people have Submit/Edit/Delete rights, and everyone else doesn't. It prevents trolls and forces people with different opinions to discuss the cards.

Besides, what if some people want a slower format and other people want a faster one? Solution: 2 CCGs.

Please let me know if that works for your suggestions.

Yes MTG and Hearthstone on Duel Portal, it would transform from a Custom Yugioh site to a Custom Card site, which could draw in more attention (in the good way). But really thats up to you, again I was just moving it to more custom options for Yugioh (mechanic's card types etc) and even other card games so that they can't attack the site. You can't shutdown a paper making factory because someone draws a copyrighted image on the paper... right?

I've given this thought, and I really like the idea, but it's kind of a big change from what I have right now.

Maybe in the future I could do something like this, but in addition to Duel Portal (YGO). In the meantime I can take more precautions against NAS like changing the card backgrounds.

Keep the ideas coming :)

So for Tournaments, I have an idea:

We gather a panel to review the decks used in the tournament.

Decks can be "submitted" to this panel for review, and if approved, they can't be edited any more after that point.

To your idea - I'm just wary that if people review cards individually, they would not see a broken, but more subtle, interaction between cards.

Plus we don't need to keep track of the banlist position of every card - it would just be common sense to see 3 Raigeki-like cards are too much.

Agreed.

* A ratings page is a nice idea, but right now it falls under the category of "Nice to have, but the work outweighs the reward." Unless I'm missing something. Right now you could just use the forums to get feedback, with all the tools and benefits of a forum layout.

* I like the custom sleeves, and it would be easy to put in. Didn't Dueling Network (RIP) require donations before you could get custom sleeves? That kinda annoyed me.

The idea is to keep the Duel Portal unified w/ community feedback, and not having to resort strictly to forum tools to provide feedback. Perhaps the methods I provided were a bit too ambitious, but I can't imagine including a star rating bar on users or cards (as a bare minimum) would be difficult to do. You could also give users a way to link their Duel Portal profile to a link of their YCM profile, or something along those lines.

Also yes, DN did require donations (or a ton of points, if I remember correctly).

The ToS link being below the client makes it so that I scroll the entire webpage down, pushing the client upwards and revealing the ToS link at the bottom, when I just want to scroll through a card's text with my mouse wheel.

I'd say have the link on the front page instead of under the entire client, but it can't be seen that way without Silverlight, if that's a problem.

The concept is very similar to DN, except the metagame is pretty much based on member creations and whatever TCG/OCG cards people need (including those used for test runs).

Basically, you log in, then adjust your Deck in that tab to whatever you need.

When you request a duel, it's going to accept the first person that clicks it; unlike DN where you can choose an opponent. Also, you can't set a password.

You can adjust your monster's stats as necessary during the game, so you can keep track of things (as opposed to DN requiring that you remember everything). I don't really remember if you actually need to click the Battle Phase button in order to let your monsters attack; think you do.

Also a little note that it takes a while for some cards to pop up, so you may not see the opponent's field unless you mouse over it for more specifics.

------

When playing on Duel Portal, please be respectful to other members and don't be a ruleshark, etc. There was an incident recently about that sort of behavior.

"You do not have permission to edit cards.  Please contact the CCG owner."  - Get that every time I try to upload a card I've made.  Doesn't seem like anyone else is having the problem.  I'm not trying to edit an existing card, I'm trying to add a new one; any way around this, if at all?  I've looked through the thread and found no mention of this anywhere.

I can also post a screenshot of the box I get if you don't think the bug is real.

Looks like you made your account as part of the HCCG (Hippocampus' Created Card Game). Maybe you meant to use normal settings? If so I'd recommend making a new account with the "Default" pool checked. You don't need permission for that one :)

Working fine for me right now, and I'm using the IEonChrome app on Chromebook [well, I could get onto DP]. Are you using the direct link or the IP address thing?

Oh right, and apparently when I copy/paste stuff into the card submission thing, it generates random garbage instead of the stats and stuff I actually want. Anyone else got this issue?

I don't, not yet.

I really wish you'd at least rollback the version you have up now to one of the older ones that wasn't 70% broken. You have to do all sorts of shenanigans just to get cards to appear on the field/hand and that is only temporary. I haven't played DP since that last update and have just been checking these forums for news on the unity move. DP is literally the only place that makes yugioh somewhat enjoyable. Hope to hear about a unity build sometime soon.

Well... personally, I haven't really had too many issues with DP.  Yea, I had to refresh once I start getting error messages, but nothing too terrible.

My question is, who is in charge of the TCG Banlist?  I think I'm on the default server, but when I tried putting Thousand-Eyes Restrict into my deck, it was banned.  It is no longer banned, as of August 2016 Banlist: http://forum.yugiohcardmaker.net/topic/356196-tcg-banlist-aug-2016/

sea's in charge of everything, including making an update for the banlists on the TCG side. (If, for whatever reason, you want to play OCG, you'll have to make some substitutions or make proxies of cards that our lists ban)

Until the banlists are updated, you'll have to proxy some cards that are currently banned (or make equivalent versions).

I just tried to change the email for my Duel Portal account and a window appears stating that "There was an error updating your profile".

EDIT:

I checked out of curiosity, and the same message appears when trying to change the "Allow Messaging" setting.

Any chance Duel Portal could get moderators of some kind to deal with unreasonable / toxic players?  Some people are just not listening to card making balance standards, arguing against legit plays without an inkling of reason other than saltiness, or are editing public cards to make them in to useless custom archetypes.  We have no way to prevent/stop this, right now, and can only try to fix it once the damage is already done.

It's been brought up before, and I'd agree that there should be someone to keep tabs on members there. Problem is that sea is absent most of the time, and he's the only one who can really give powers.

Although, if you can provide specific names, we can try to do something once sea shows himself. (Or leave a list of cards that were vandalized and their original effects if you know them)

From what I could gather, it was the entire Phantom Knights archetype.  As for a list of people... Hoo boy.  I'll try and get in contact with my buddy Djehuty and see if I can get that blacklist he keeps talking about off of him, but in the meantime, here's all the people I've encountered that have had a history of bad behavior and general toxicity.  Snoop Dogg means 'can be alright to duel, but be cautious', Kappa means 'duel at your own risk'.

  • :Kappa: felgrand(series of numbers here) : This guy uses glitches to try and sneak plays, gets incredibly angry when called out on it, and also continuously chastises people who call him out on his BS in main chat.  Pulls the 'ur angry cuz u lost' defense, and refuses to stop when told by multiple people.  Got called out on his crap so much he changed his name to magnetboy326.  Djehuty: guy's also got issues with people using custom cards, apparently.
  • :Kappa: dreidelmts: Absolutely refuses to listen to people when they tell them to balance their Crystal Gem archetype, which they have yet to do.  Uses the whole 'trying to match the meta / compared to Konami' excuse.  Djehuty: not even remotely reasonable in my experience.
  • :Snoop Dogg: 5fdpunch:  Has a history of using overpowered cards (Anime-version Seal of Orichalcos) in Tournament without warning, and says anyone who calls him out on that sort of thing is just complaining.  Does the passive aggressive  "so are you gonna quit or can i continue?" routine.  When he's not, though, he's alright to duel against.  Djehuty: eh, this one's cool.
  • :Snoop Dogg: Surveillance:  Can be alright, but has a history of being outright rude and dick-ish to people while dueling, regardless of whether or not they're winning or losing.  Djehuty: not a fan, but Halohbottech thinks he's good folks.
  • :Kappa: Yuto: Edits TCG/OCG Konami-printed archetypes 'because no one can stop him.' Also argues consistently in Main Chat and is very spiteful.  Djehuty: literally the worst.
  • :Kappa: 0713MM:  Simply ignores anyone and everyone who has anything negative to say about their cards.  Almost never speaks, but does not listen to people telling them what is and isn't balanced.
  • :Kappa: magnetboy326:  Felgrand under a different name.  Has a history of claiming legit plays to be cheating despite being told the rules and will chastise people in main chat because of it.  This is a personal gripe, but; net-decker.  Also a consistent competitive meta player - nothing wrong with that in the grand scheme, but don't expect to have much fun dueling this guy.  Djehuty: also a very sore loser.
  • :Snoop Dogg: JAIME:  Is improving, but still uses much profanity and has a serious problem with losing.  Enters rage mode when beaten particularly badly, and has been known to be passive aggressive (flooding duel chat with deck shuffling when asked to fix glitches sometimes, that sort of thing) and generally salty.  Also apparently has something against the Extra Deck.  My buddy Djehuty is trying to turn them on to GOAT.  Like I said, is improving.
  • yeho:  Gone the way of most newbies to the site; uses crazy-broken cards and generally refuses to balance them along the proper guidelines.  They're not so-broken they're unbeatable, but he has some serious problems handling criticism.
  • :Kappa: thevanitysguy:  Thinks he's some kind of YGO savior, keeps going on about how he's this incredible, heroic duelist who fought for freedom and sacrificed... Something.  Came from Dueling Network.  Whenever he's online, brings anywhere from ten to fifteen 'people' with him who do NOTHING but sing his praises.  Constantly.  We think they're all one person.  Doesn't help that the guy outright refuses to duel.  'War is Hell', apparently.  Djehuty: managed to get him to slip up once, so that confirms it in my book.
  • :Kappa: There's also a guy who came in once that made cards using pornographic images.  I should've written his name down.  He just kept calling everyone 'prudish' when he was called out on it.  Probably doesn't matter much to bring it up, but I figure we don't want SJW fathers/mothers to get up-in-arms 'cause their son's whacking it to a card game.  Djehuty: i also pointed out that Konami probably wouldn't appreciate that very much.

With the exception of that last fellow, these people are around generally every day.  We've adopted a general 'ignore most of the time' policy for pretty much all but 2 of these people, which is pretty dang sad.  Most are very active, but for the most part don't bring much to the table other than frustration and irrationality.
