It used to be invite only, but now it is open to all, has facebook connectivity to show what you're listening to, Last FM compatibility (I think, anyway) and a giant music library. Whilst it has a lot of songs, there are quite a few that it doesn't have, which is annoying, and the adverts are also very tedious (but spotify premium removes that problem), but overall. It makes things easier. No illegal downloading (because it is legal to listen to music via spotify), can easily make playlists, all music has the same volume and doesn't have 10 seconds silence after finishing (two of youtube's problems) no cluttered music libraries.
