No. I don't even know what happened there. Meant to say, "I should try to do one of these." I have no idea how I f*cked up that badly and didn't catch that.

Thank you for everyone who took the time to complete the assignments. The reviews are all great so far, really loved it. And I'm fine with Aggro leaving the written card/fanfic review aside, since the one for the Kid Icarus game was much longer than expected.

However, do I take it that the interview with Dementuo or Zextra and the Rosario+Vampire review fall out?

I've started putting the stuff we have together and had planned to post the show on Sunday. However, it depends on some things and I'll be either able to post it tomorrow or the day after.

Just to make the count, for now we have 2 music reviews (Def Leppard - Photograph and Nine Muses - Ticket), 3 entertainment parts (Dharc and Mysterious with Desu, the YCMaker Drinking Game, YCM riddle), 1 TCG tutorial (Fableds), 2 other/non-music reviews (Kid Icarus: Uprising, Card of the Week), the TCG Facts and 1 interview (plus the logo). I'm ok with only having one interview, although I think we settled on 2, max. 3 being the ideal case. Another thing I wanted to add were advertisments (discussed with the thread posters of course) or some competition for members to choose the YCM Weekly theme song.

It isn't...extremely much for the amount of people we have working on this, but I guess we can still do better next time.=S

My location kind of hindered what I could do but next time I'll definitely try to do more. Just at my dad's so zero privacy and figured my dad would bother me about whatever. Especially whatever the community of YCM would pick. And knowing the community it'd be MLP that they'd pick for me. Sadistic f*cks. And there's no way I'm going to let myself get caught watching that.

Although if there's something else you'd want us to do I suppose there still is time until you post it.

By the way, just before you post, Opal. Would you mind looking through my review and making a few grammatical changes. I made a few mistakes, not sure if you picked up on them or if you'd be willing to look for them yourself.

There were only like 3 that I wanted to change, all early on.

I've highlighted all the necessary changes in red, as well as place each piece under the section they are in in order. I've kept the original paragraphs intact so they won't be tough to find. Just replace what I motioned to be replaced. Pretty simple.
Story:

Well, the story takes on a fairly different tone later in the game, which I must say was an enjoyable change that a friend of mine even commented as being “hamazing”. (Added Period)

In either case, as a player, you really won’t care much about the story itself. The real treat is the dialogue. Nintendo took care while (change "in" to "while") making the dialogue, which rolls along with images of the speaking characters on the lower screen throughout gameplay, even going so far as to hire an actual funny-man, a former Saturday Night Live writer to be exact.

Although the dialogue is entertaining, however, I must also point out how a bit of the story itself seemed like it drolled on, as if the creators just wanted the game to be longer so they threw (change "through" to "threw") something in. It was a bit disappointing, even if it got in a few great jokes.

Gameplay:

Making use of the lower screen forces the player in an awkward position where you basically have to hold the screen fully with one hand and play with the other, instead of the classic way to play (added "way to play") handheld gaming that was much more like a controller. It reminds me of why I wasn’t very much a fan of Goldeneye007 or Metroid on the 3DS. It’s awkward, and playing it for an extended period of time can get exceedingly uncomfortable.

If you don't want to deal with it, then don't, I just happened to want to make these changes for the sake of being grammatically correct and not being chewed out by some grammar nazi.

Yeah, I checked all the reviews so far on grammar and spelling, but there wasn't anything big to do with yours.

Kid Icarus: UprisingConsole: Nintendo 3DSDeveloper: Project SoraPublisher: NintendoRelease Date: 3/23/2012

First Thoughts:

You know I had high hopes for the game from the onset. I mean, it’s Kid Icarus for god’s sake. There hadn’t been a game in 25 years (save Of Myths and Monsters, but let’s ignore that because we can) and I was certainly a bit anxious to finally get my hands on the game.

So after an impatient few hours of morning classes, I finally headed over to GameStop to pick up my copy. The next half hour was pretty much a blur, but all I know is that after that, I sat in a chair playing Kid Icarus for well over five hours.

So let’s get into it, shall we?

Story:

With all the trailers showcasing the multiplayer, consumers like myself were a bit worried about how much care was going to be given to the actual story mode.

I must say, I was pleasantly surprised- I’m joking, I was laughing to hard too be surprised. Yes, the story is fairly generic; Pit, supported by Palutena, fights off a giant evil. Pretty basic, right?

Well, the story takes on a fairly different tone later in the game, which I must say was an enjoyable change that a friend of mine even commented as being “hamazing”.

…you’ll get the reference later.

In either case, as a player, you really won’t care much about the story itself. The real treat is the dialogue. Nintendo took care in making the dialogue, which rolls along with images of the speaking characters on the lower screen throughout gameplay, even going so far as to hire an actual funny-man, a former Saturday Night Live writer to be exact.

It’s extremely well written. Though many of the jokes made me roll my eyes, the majority of the jokes, and yes, even ones where I rolled my eyes, were genuinely funny. If you don’t at least give a laugh whilst thinking “Did they just say that?”, you don’t know humor. I should also mention that the fourth wall is gone, don’t even go searching for it, it’s just gone.

Although the dialogue is entertaining, however, I must also point out how a bit of the story itself seemed like it drolled on, as if the creators just wanted the game to be longer so they threw something in. It was a bit disappointing, even if it got in a few great jokes.

Gameplay:

The menu is very reminiscent of Super Smash Bros. Brawl. There are trophies you can collect and a vault to listen to music as well as several other features not worth mentioning specifically.

There are a few features worth mentioning, though. The first, and honestly the most important, is “Weapon Fusion”. Quite literally, you’re fusing weapons you have in your stock in an attempt to get a stronger weapon with more abilities. Certain items mix with certain items to get other items, so mix and match to see what you get.

Any weapon that you collect in Single or Multiplayer is available for use in both, as they’re more or less connected.

Now onto the gameplay in the story mode.

I’ll say this: holding the controller is going to make your hands hurt. The game comes along with a stand to try to alleviate the problem. It helps, in a way. It basically eliminates the idea of the 3DS being a mobile gaming device, and honestly speaking, I never actually used it, but it’s worth giving a try if your hands start to ache.

Controls are simple for the most part. In the entire game, the L button is attack, the circle pad is move, and the D-Pad can be set for certain attacks.

The rest of the controls depend primarily on what part of the game you’re on.

Each of the levels in the game is split between land and sky battles. Sky battles are pretty easy to understand; where your stylus is on the lower screen correlates with where you’re aiming above.

This gets a bit more complicated when you get on land battles. You see, land battles, unlike aerial battles, are not on rails, and you need to turn the screen by aiming to the side for slow movement, or flicking the screen with the stylus to make it spin.

Now it’s understandable why these controls are like this, but it’s an unfortunate reason. It’s the 3DS itself.

Making use of the lower screen forces the player in an awkward position where you basically have to hold the screen fully with one hand and play with the other, instead of the classic way to play handheld gaming that was much more like a controller.
It reminds me of why I wasn’t very much a fan of Goldeneye007 or Metroid on the 3DS. It’s awkward, and playing it for an extended period of time can get exceedingly uncomfortable.

You may have also heard that the game allows function of an extra D-Pad, which is fine, but probably not what you think. You would think that controls would allow it to be used to control the aiming, making it easier on your hands. Alas, it does not. All that adding the extra circle pad would do is flip the control to be easier to use for left-handed individuals. Bummer, right?

Otherwise thought, the game is fine. Weapons seem to be balanced and gameplay is challenging.

Before beginning each level you’re prompted to select the level of difficulty by betting hearts. The more hearts, the tougher and more numerous the enemies, but also more abundant the hearts you can collect in the level (currency in the game) and special rewards (such as weapons).

If you beat a level, the game will automatically set the next level to be tougher than what you had it set to, which is still easily changeable when you begin. Likewise, every time you die, the game automatically decreases the difficulty of the level you’re on, something you won’t be able to change until after the level.

Multiplayer gameplay is like getting bitchslapped. You're not sure how it happened, you don't know why,
and it happened too fast for you to know what's going on.

Multiplayer:

The Multiplayer is nothing special. Many people were worried about it when they saw trailers for it, and with good reason. It’s hectic, terribly so.

Controls work just like they normally do in land battles in story mode. There are two options on how to play, free for all, and an essential team deathmatch.

“Team deathmatch” is simple; all players on a team share a health gauge. When the health gauge is depleted, the last player to die becomes that team’s angel (Pit or Dark Pit). At that point, it’s basically moot to go after anyone else other than the angel, as he’s the entire team’s health gauge. Once an angel is defeated, the game ends, and the team of the angel left standing wins.

At the end of each game, the best player receives a prize, mainly an item.

But like I said, the gameplay in multiplayer is just hectic. Land battles worked fine in the game when you could easily see and find enemies, as they were never too fast. That all changes in multiplayer.

Team battles get the worst of it. There was a streak of several games where whenever my team got the opponent to their angel, we would chase after him, only to see him fly away on a glide rail positioned unfortunately too high for many of us to catch up and we ended up losing as not all of us could keep up.

‘’Basically, “team deathmatch” turns into a cat-and-mouse game that you really shouldn’t be playing. On one level, which aren’t that complicated or expansive, I should mention, I spent a good two minutes looking for their angel before ours was taken out.

Free for all doesn’t have to deal with this thankfully, but in a game type basically made for organized chaos, having absolute chaos already really doesn’t help.

Not to mention, it’s tough to even see what you’re doing when fighting and many times one-on-one comes down to luck. That’s not a good thing.

Graphics:

For a handheld game, you’ll be hard pressed to find graphics as good as they are in this game. It even challenges the Wii at some points. Put simply, the graphics are amazing.

Overall:

When talking about this game, most if not all of those who have played it will tell you the same thing: “Kid Icarus is an amazing game held back by poor controls.” And it’s true. The graphics, the concept, the dialogue, the story; it is a very solid game.

The Good:
> Dialogue that makes the game E10+.
> Steaming the Sacred Buns
> Sexual Tension
> An entertaining Story
> Replay Value
The Bad:
> Multiplayer that devolves into Chaos
The Ugly:
> Controls that give you need of an ice pack

Rating: 8.5/10

You're dealing with Dark Pit now, b*tches.

Final Opinion:

I did actually enjoy this game. Once I got past the awkward controls, it was pretty much just a thrill ride of laughs, cries, laughing while trying to cry, and crying while trying to laugh. The controls were my only issue with the game; everything else was great. If any game deserves to be the game that makes you buy a 3DS, it’s Kid Icarus: Uprising.
I'll post the full show when I get home from school though.;~;

[s]should we really keep it up every week?[/s]

Good good though, the first issue caught on.:3
Not as much as the 2008 issues, but still enough.

I also forgot to tell you guys some things yesterday, basically I removed the "what Deck do you use" and "who are your favourite members" questions for the intros. The first question isn't that good for those of us who don't play anymore and it'd make people think that all we do is talk about Yugimonz. The second one, I removed it because it could bring favouritism over (as in, members we'd be more likely to interview and so on). Sorry for not telling you beforehand, I kind of forgot.:/

Another thing I forgot is that for the YCM riddle, people who happen to be the members we're looking for aren't eligible for the prize. I'm stupid, I know. :D

As for the prize itself, I thought about giving members some sorts of small graphics (possibly tickets because of one song we put down?) and people can accumulate them, since there will probably be many different games to win something. At some point, the member who got the most of these graphics wins a larger prize?
Points for every small riddle sound boring though...:<

Well riddles could be worth one and bigger things could be worth five? And maybe have some sort of ticket shop where they can spend tickets and choose something we review or maybe get their own article included for more tickets? :/

Just want to note something about the discussion of a Skype talk.

I wouldn't say that we do the whole show so soon.

It could probably be better if we did a part that works for it, like say, doing something to poke fun at how Cinnabonne sounds while trying to speak English. Or an interview too, I guess...

Sounds fine.
Since these smaller riddles may come up more often in the future, it doesn't seem interesting to give something out everytime.

...Why did we turn down the Skype option again?._.
As said in the show thread, I personally like the idea of having some interviews on Skype (or at least the people who want/have it).
Actually I've talked on Skype and it's not as hard as I thought, just having a strong accent. Ask Black or Kokonoe or Meta.:'D

[s]...but why again?[/s]
Personally I don't see the point in having an entire show on Skype. It's much easier to scrap the parts you're not interested in on a written piece than on a record file (unless we post videos, aka convos with some random background image). Also, the quality of recording isn't always that good on Skype...
But doing some of the interviews there sounds cool.

Btw we should start rebuilding the team, methinks.
So, everyone who's still here posts in the next 24 or so hours and for the members who left, we'll let some new ones in?
And also deciding on the host, that's something we should get done asap.o.o
