KORRA HAS ARRIVED!

The spread of metalbending and lightningbending is supposed to represent the spread of human knowledge, and Sokka's lines about metalbending being considered impossible pretty much prove it.

And somewhat random question, what exactly is with that "Fire Nation Guy" who could earthbend in Season One? I always think of him when I speculate about dual-benders from interbreeding tribes and the such.

Yeah, whether she double heel turns, goes totally evil, or just storms out with anger towards benders and love for her dad Mr. Capitalism that will turn into antagonism, the forced KM relationship is probably going to ruin her. Hoping she takes it well though.

I actually like that Yakone did in fact bloodbend that entire room by himself (with just eye movement). That's earned him the badass seal of approval in my book.
I wonder if he could've stopped Amon.

I for one noticed that it happened almost immediately after Sokka referenced the Combustion Man, who, as Sokka put it, could firebend with his mind.

When I saw Amon resisting Tarrlok's Bloodbending, I thought he was an android. After thinking for a while, seeing this promo for the season finale (cue to :47 for the scene where Korra looks like she's being bloodbended down), I have pretty good suspicion that Amon might be a bloodbender. Seriously, there is no other way that he can resist pure bloodbending except by:

1) He's a robot
2) He's an even more powerful Waterbender than Tarrlok

Considering he was affected (though slightly) by the bloodbending, he has to be a waterbender of some very high caliber.

If he was a robot/android he wouldn't have been affected, but since he was slightly affected, replace robot with cyborg since cyborgs have human and robot parts.

Also, I think it's about time for Bolin to have his super special awesome moment, I want him to Platinumbend.

Considering as far as we know, Lightningbending was only known by two people (Iroh and Azula), and one was a sociopath and the other was too smart to dilvulge such a powerful technique to a country he no longer had faith in, it's not a huge surprise that there was a lack of lightningbenders. Maybe no one taught them. Maybe people figured it out on their own. You have a lot more free time when you're not fighting a war.

Amon was pretty legit this episode. I'm not sure how he managed to resist Tarrlok, but I hope the answer isn't that he's a cyborg. That would be lame.

Now let's all take a moment to appreciate Bei Fong, the best damn character in this show, god I love this woman.

If Bei Fong had her own show, I'd watch the ever-loving crap out of it. Just saying.

That bit just seemed like an "I will crush you" gesture, but I can see that being from a scene where he bloodbends. Assuming the theory that he's somehow another reincarnation of Aang turns out to be true, that would just be example to prove it.

One random thought.
That airbender next to Sokka at the trial, was that Tenzin, or another one of Aang's kids?

I thought Amon somehow used energybending to stimulate his body to resist the effects, hence the initial struggle, though who knows if something like that's even possible.

And Book 1's only 12 episodes?
If Korra doesn't at least get a small grasp at airbending before the end, then Book 1 being called Air would be...odd.
Come to think of it, what will they call the next book? Energy?

Aang had 3 kids, Kya, Bumi, and Tenzin, and Tenzin was the only airbender. Tenzin would've only been 8 during that flashback (he was born when Aang was 32, Aang was 40 in the flashback) so I don't think it was him.

Since they might have more than 2 books they might go the standard 4 bending types, but who knows.
The biggest problem I have with this show is that they took the special techniques and handed them out to everyone...
Well, with the symbols and stuff combustion man had, it wouldn't surprise me if there were others, even back then.

Actually, I think it'd be better to call him a Carbon bender. With that, he could probably permanently take away someone's ability to control their chi, and do it in a way that makes it impossible to heal. Completely change the setup of the cell, make it into something it's not. Plus he would be able to combat blood bending by simply bending the rest of his body to move.

This idea make sense to anyone else?

Yeah, the Airbending representative on the council really confused me.

And because we're going to keep discussing this.

Amon is the governor of California.

I'm trying to think how bloodbending could be used to stop bending powers and came to a similar conclusion as Aggro, but doing it w/ bloodbending.

That Council airbender probably lives on Airtemple island w/ Aang. Not a bender but a follower/monk.

Chances Amon is Tarlok's brother/family?

I think the "Airbender" next to Sokka was an Air Acolyte, people who dedicate their lives following the ways of the Air Nomads. Aang, of course, started the Acolytes so that the ways of the Air Nomads will not die out (and thus, would preserve, and revive, a dead nation).

I always thought more people didn't do Lightningbending in TLA for two reasons. Firstly, it was incredibly hard to do. Secondly, it was highly impractical for what it offered (more precise fire). Firebending was much easier to learn and much more useful for average, day to day activities like cooking a fish or murdering some guy's parents

But then the world advanced a bit. Suddenly there were radios and telephones that needed to be powered by electricity. Suddenly there's a bigger need for electricity then there ever was in TLA. So more and more people took it up. When there's a need for something, more people learn about it, there's a demand for teachers, etc etc. I don't think it's too out of the ordinary that lightningbending is more spread out.

Metalbending, it's been confirmed Toph started a Metalbending academy and began teaching it.

... Not sure who you're talking about here. You mean Season 1 of TLA? The only Earthbenders I remember are King Bumi, Haru, his dad, and the other people who got taken away, that guy from The Great Divide, those Earthbenders who were gonna murder Iroh in the first part of The Spirit World episode, a few random nubs from Aunt Wu (the Fortuneteller)'s village... I think that's everyone. Maybe Kyoshi if you count that? Other then that, I don't remember a Fire Nation Guy who could Earthbend.
I for one noticed that it happened almost immediately after Sokka referenced the Combustion Man, who, as Sokka put it, could firebend with his mind.
This is gonna sound completely random and out of left field, but I remember hearing a theory that Combustion Man wasn't a firebender. He was an airbender.

How he created explosion was by vibrating air, expanding and contracting it at an extremely quick rate which cause an explosion. That's why chi paths were much more important to him, because Airbenders are naturally more spiritual in nature.

The only other person we've seen who took damage from being bloodbent but then shrugged it off was Avatar Aang. Soo...

Firelord Ozai also knew it. He used it twice. Once against Zuko during the Day of Black Sun (and Zuko redirected it) and again against Avatar Aang, (who also redirected it).

My theories on Amon:

a) He's the second Avatar. When Azula killed Aang in Crossroads of Destiny, she created a new Avatar. When Aang died 54 years later, Korra was born. Amon is a 70 year old Waterbender, the Avatar.

or

b) Like he suggested in the third episode, Amon really was blessed and favoured by the spirits and taught Energybending by a Lion Turtle or something. He probably also took a trip to the Spirit World, met Tui and La, Koh the Face Stealer, Haibi the Forest Spirit, that stupid asshole monkey, and all the other spirits. It's not out of the question that a mere mortal could explore the Spirit World. Both Sokka and Iroh went at some point. The spirits probably taught him all kinds of stuff, but beyond that they don't particularly care how he uses his new found talents.

Unrelated note: Am I the only who thinks it looks like Amon is airbending at the end of Out of the Past? When he runs super fast and jumps through Korra's snow/dust storm thing.
