Old School Spellcaster/Dark Paladin Deck Looking to Improve

This is my Spellcaster deck mostly consisting of older cards. Five years or more. I'd like to receive opinions, comments, remarks, or advice on what to do to make my deck stronger. I have little knowledge of any "new" cards and I am not against adding them to my deck if proven beneficial. I am aware that there are a few cards that are now on the ban list according to the Advanced Format, and I will remove them once I remake my deck. Plus I would also appreciate mention of any potentially useful Synchro/Tuner or Xyz monsters that could be considered. My theme is what was once referred to as Beatdown, I apologize for not knowing the current comparative term. Though it probably requires no explanation, here it is just in case. It was simply to get your strongest monsters out and reduce your opponent's LP to 0 by monster attacks.

You really need a focus, and actual theme. Type isn't a good theme to go off of at all.

If you want, you could run a dedicated Dark Magician deck, which is still bad, or you could just scrap this and try out a tiered deck or something.

Assumably, however, this is IRL, which means that most good decks will cost quite a bit.

Unfortunately, I'm not an expert on how to build a Dark Magician deck, ironically enough it's my favourite card though.

I'd advise cards like Dark Magic Attack, as DM only cards, but the rest be support towards it, such as E-HERO Prisma, and a focus to get out Dark Paladin with cards like King of the Swamp.

Unfortunately, I can't help more.

Understandable.

Evilchris, yes this is a real life deck. And thank you for your input, no matter how small.

And sure DJVD, I should probably just buy a new structure deck and go from there.

How is the Six Samurai structure deck? Would that be a worthy path of investment?

As far as I know there is no Sam structure deck. If you could link me to what you're talking about that would be helpful.

As for you spellcaster deck:

What you have is a jumbled mess with a rather large number possibile fixes. If you could be more specific with what kind of deck you were looking for things would be easier. Beatdown as defined by "Attacking with monsters and reducing LP to zero" is enough to build a deck on.

What is helpful, though, is knowing how you want to do that. Do you want to use a Dark Magician/ Dark Paladin deck, a Spell Counter centric deck, a control control deck with Secret Village of the Spellcasters, or play the new semi-Xyz centric spellcater archetype coming out soon-ish?

Any other theme is fine also. Just give an idea so people know what you're trying to do

That is some seriously helpful information Tiger Tracks, thank you. If you couldn't already tell, I currently (though it wasn't always so) have no idea where to start when it comes to building a new deck. I have very limited knowledge of any cards that have been released since 2005; which heavily affects my deck making abilities. I have vast amounts to learn and much studying to do of other players before I can seriously begin to construct a formidable deck.

As for the Six Samurai question: I saw a box at a local card shop which I mistook for a structure deck with "Samurai Assault" printed on the front. However it only contains a few boosters which contain sets of cards somewhat related to the Six Samurai archetype.

I do wish to use Xyz monsters. It seems like a fun way to play. Also, would you happen to know of any Synchro monsters that would work well with a spell counter focus?

Try this deck I saw in another thread:

It could be worse. Try this as a starting point:

Monster: 17
2 Chaos Sorcerer
1 Black Luster Soldier - EotB
1 Endymion the Master Magician
3 Effect Veiler
3 Magical Exemplar
3 Breaker the Magical Warrior
3 Crusader of Endymion
1 Night's End Sorcerer

Spells: 18
1 Dark Hole
1 Heavy Storm
1 Foolish Burial
1 Monster Reborn
1 Miracle Synchro Fusion
3 Magical Citadel of Endymion
3 Spell Power Grasp
3 Pot of Duality
2 Terraforming
2 MST

Traps: 5
2 Solemn Warning
2 Torrential Tribute
1 Solemn Judgment

Extra: 15
3 Stardust Dragon
3 Arcanite Magician
3 Tempest Magician
3 Explosive Magician
3 Supreme Arcanite Magician
It's not bad, but the Extra Deck could use other staples such as Black Rose Dragon, Brionac, and so on. I understand it's IRL, so you might want to loose Black Luster Soldier, as it's a $40 or more card. Use a third Chaos Sorc instead if you want this IRL. It's got a spell counter focus plus synchro monsters, which you wanted.
