"Oh no! Zebulos!" Amber cries out as she watches helplessly as her Monster is sent to the graveyard via the effect of Super Transformation. "... That's just great.... And now Spike is open for an attack..."

"Don't Worry M'Lady. Stay focused on the Duel..."

She thought for a moment as she looked at her hand. "at least I know Zebulos will be alright... as long as this crazy chick isn't after him..." She saw a card that might help protect her monster, but would it protect her LP?

"I'll place one more card face-down... and end my turn."

It had only been a few turns, neither player had taken any serious damage, but the cards seemed to have that urgency in them he was looking for, they seemed to truly be battling. He knew it was wrong, the implications of the duel made it sound like a duel to the death, but he couldn't help but enjoy seeing the real heart in the duelists, even if one was colder then 6 feet of dirt. "What is it about these two.....not only that, Exceed monsters...I'm still so new to them....they're...pretty interesting...Ninja's on one end...." he looks at the Hanzo before it disappears as he lightly places his hand on a deck box to his side, a blue flame insignia on it. "And these colorful little creatures on the other side..." his other hand presses on a second deck box, what looks like a horseshoe insignia on this one. "I can't help but enjoy this....gah...I'm a terrible person....nice girl looks like she's in trouble.....YOU CAN DO IT NICE GIRL!" He shouts blatantly...and rather embarrassingly.

"That's not good, but whatever," said Greg, drawing his card.

"I activate Summoner's Art, and add Red-Eyes Black Dragon to my hand," he continued.

"Then I Normal Summon Red-Eyes Black Chick-" (ATK 800 / DEF 500) "- and activate it's effect. I can Tribute it to Special Summon Red-Eyes Black Dragon from my hand," (ATK 2400 / DEF 2000) Greg finished, placing the Normal Monster on the table in place of Red-Eyes B. Chick.

Perfect. Everything's in place. Turns out this deck is pretty good.

"I activate the Magic Card Inferno Fire Blast!" the boy said. "When I control a Red-Eyes Black Dragon, this card deals you 2400 damage!"

[MARKUS LP: 0 (Assuming no response)]

Regardless of weather the damage registered, Greg would end his turn.

Amber thinks to herself as she hears the strange young man cheering her on. "It's nice to know someone at least has my back... But Something tells me.. She's not done with me yet... I just hope that I can at least protect Spike to help keep my LP from reaching Zero... But what if I can't... What if this woman is a Number Destroyer...?"

All of these doubts flooded her mind, and she began to worry.. To her, Number 93 wasn't just a card, or even a tool... This card was her friend, and he had been looking out for her since He found her... She kept thinking back to the day her Friend Seth got his number card, and turned on her.. The way he treated her before he demolished her in a duel... They were such good friends.. and now.. She didn't know what she would do if they crossed paths again...

"I don't know why you challenged me to a duel.. well.. besides the obvious reason of wielding a number card." Amber paused "But Zebulos and I won't give up... We have our reasons for dueling too... Our own reason to go into the WDC..."

Amber was fighting back tears, She couldn't help but feel that she might have to flee upon losing the duel, and hope to the Egyptian God Cards that the woman doesn't try to blow her brains out.

The woman drew her card. "Draw." She stoicly proclaimed, then examined her card before activating one of her face-down Traps. "Trap. Trap Stun." A pulse of electrical energy spread out across the field, electrocuting Ninjitsu Art of Super Transformation and the sniper's other facedown, as well as the cards on Amber's side of the field. "All Traps are negated." She simply explained as she placed down a monster. "Normal Summon. Flame Armor Ninja." A red-clad ninja with shining armor covering parts of his body jumped onto the field and struck up an attacking kung-fu pose. (1700 ATK|LV4) "Effect. Increase its own Level to 5." A fiery aura surrounded the assassin, and he did a kung-fu move to demonstrate his new ranking. (LV4 -> LV5) "Spell. Armor Ninjitsu Art of Teleportation." A card depicting two Armor Ninjas appeared on the woman's side of the field. "Effect. Special Summon. Earth Armor Ninja." A brown-robed ninja, also with silver parts of his body, poofed into existence with what appeared to be a shoddy jump-cut. (1600 ATK|LV5) Suddenly, a glowing orange "12" formed on the woman's right hand, and she clenched the hand into a fist as the mark throbbed. Her expression was now of pain, with a bit of rage, as she stared at the number on her hand in...horror? "Ugh...Not now..."

Amber Noticed the woman's expression of pain... "Hey.. Are you alright....?" She asked. She notice the number on her hand. "Of course... you carry a number too... It all makes sense now..."

Amber suddenly came to the conclusion, true or not, that this woman wanted her Card, if not to use him, perhaps to keep others from using him.

"It'll be alright Amber... Do what you Can, If you cannot win, then remember this, You CAN help your friend Seth. With, or without me."

With Zebulos' words in her mind... It became more about simply losing her friend.. She didn't want to let Zebulos fall into anyone else's hands.. What if this woman tore him up..? He'd be gone forever... Her traps were now disabled... her Safe Zone card couldn't be used now.... She wiped her eyes, trying to play it off as if she had something in them. "I'm sorry Zebulos..."

"There's nothing I can do.. Continue..." Amber said sullenly...

The woman grabbed the breech of her rifle, and a black card spit out. On the field, a galaxy-shaped vortex started to form, and both Flame Armor Ninja and Earth Armor Ninja started to glow red and orange, respectively. "I will create...an Overlay network...using these 2...Xyz Materials..." The woman groaned, trying to resist as her hand shakily moved the Xyz Monster towards her field. The two monsters became energy beams and flew into the glowing vortex. "Xyz Summon...Strike fast and with blood-red fury...Number 12...Crimson Shadow Armor Ninja..." She looked away as she overlaid the card onto her two other monsters, and a giant red and gold shuriken popped out of the vortex, which closed behind it. A moment later, the shuriken started to fragment, its parts shifting as the monster within emerged. Two of its 4 points became legs, while the other two turns into arms, and combined together to make the body. Finally, a demonic mask with flowing orange hair emerged, and an orange "12" formed on the giant ninja's left chestplate. He withdrew 2 swords and whipped them around expertly before raising them towards Amber. (2400 ATK|RNK5|2 XM)

"Oh man... Spike!"Amber cried as her monster was destroyed, taking damage as well. "AAAH!"

LP lost : 1400

Monsters: none

S/T: 2

This.. was Amber's first Duel with Numbers... and this experience was rather... scary to her. She actually felt pain from the attack, even if she had no wound.

"O...owww....?"

"Yeah, you wish! Pikeru's Circle of Enchantment! I have a burn deck, I know the damage it can cause. This won't end so easily, Draw!"

(1 card in hand)

"Ugh...there must be something to do now...Flip Summon Shining Caster Dareia (1050/2100)!"

"Master...this person..." - said the voice of the Shining Caster's Duel Spirit.

"What is it Dareia?"

"He has a Duel Spirit too...it's so powerful..." - her voice was shaking...

"Hey, relax. Even if I can't hear you, Plasma Behemoth, right? Would you be a sweet heart and introduce yourself to my cards? They seem to think you are evil...hahaha..." - said Markus out loud, looking at Greg's shoulder while talking.

"I continue, activate! Caster's Rest! By selecting 2 Casters from my Graveyard or field, I send them to your Graveyard and Draw 2 card. I select, Dareia and Vasiliki." - he placed the face-up Normal Monster and the Fusion Monster on Greg's graveyard, and he drew 2 cards.

(2 cards in hand)

"Ugh, FINALLY! I activate Caster Meeting. By paying half my life points, I summon as many Casters as I can from your Graveyard. So, come forth Dareia, Aikaterina, and Galene!"

"I now tribute Galene, Tribute Summon Burst Caster Chara (2350/1175)!" - another Normal Monster was placed on the field.

"Aika, Dareia! Master, are you planning to do it?"

"Oh Chara, how did you guess? Trust Bond! Shining Caster Dareia, Burst Caster Chara! Fusion Summon, Spiritual Caster Korinna (2900/1450)!" - he placed the two Normal Monsters in Greg's Graveyard. When he Summoned the monster, the Duel Spirit of a young white hared girl appeared besides him.

"My master, it has been a long time."

"Indeed. Again, Double Trust Bond! Spiritual Caster Korinna, Clear Caster Aikaterina! Fusion Summon, Deadly Caster Ker (4000/2000)!" - He repeated the action, but this time, an older girl appeared, surrounded by flaming chains.

"Master. Is it okay if I continue this?"- said Ker, the Caster.

"Yeah, go ahead Ker."

The spirit of the card cleared her voice, as if she would talk to a crowd.

"Fine" - the voice of the caster didn't sound inside Markus's head, but out loud from inside the card, for Greg, Taio and Jayce to listen - "I shall continue this. I declare an attack to your Red-Eyes Black Dragon. If it can go trough, you would take 1600 damage. Either way, we end our turn."- concluded the Fusion Monster. Her voice was strong enough to be heard by Markus's friends, but not by the people in the other tables.

Amber looked upon the Number Monster that stood before her. She little to nothing about this card, and it terrified her. Zebulos was in the graveyard, and she had no way to protect her monsters or life points....

"... Zebulos... I think we're in big trouble... The Number holder doesn't even seem to be able to have much control... Look at her... She's all shook up..."

"Some people have a hard time grasping our power.. I know not of her story.. but I think that even if we lose... We will be okay..."

"Mam... Are you alright?" Amber asked with concern

"This is looking pretty bad....." Josep says as he looks at the field, was this girl really looking to harm her opponent....all over these numbers cards?.....It was a thought that sickened him but also intrigued. All he could think of was, what is it like to be a number holder? From what he saw the girl with the rifle react, it brought a whole new level to the game....maybe he should look for one? who knew, maybe he could....just maybe...it looked painful, her control was limited if non-existent, but maybe, it's exactly what he was hoping for?

Not good! Greg and 76 thought in unison.

There's only 1 card I have that could possibly beat that thing...And I have no way of summoning it now.

He drew his card.

"I guess all I can do is Set a monster face-down," he finished with a sigh.

What am I supposed to say? Asked 76.

Just...I don't know, introduce yourself, Greg replied.

Casters, magicians, whatever you are...Uhm, hi?

Three Duel Spirits hopped from the Graveyards, greeting Plasma Behemoth.

"Oh hi! I'm Galene!"

"Sup, 76, rite? I'm Chara."

"My apologies for being scared from you before, I'm Dareia."

"Hey girls, we are still in the middle of this, remember? Draw!"

(1 card in hand)

"Mmm...interesting. I have a theory. If this works, I overkill. If it doesn't, you win. I could either stick to attacking with Ker, or take a chance."

"What's that Master?" - the Duel Spirit of the Serene Caster flew over Markus, looking at the card in his hand - "Ooooh. Do it Master, do it!"

"Since you say it...I activate, A Toss of Fate!" - Markus placed a Normal Spell card on the field. - "This one is simple, I call a coin. Call it wrong, I lose. If I do it right, I summon any monster from my Extra Deck. Okay...tails!" - Markus flipped a coin from his pocket. When he grabbed the coin, he set it on the table. - "Come on..." - He removed his hand from the coin. Heads. - "Huh...then it's game. Crap."

"Cheer up Master, you can still see us naked if you want."- said the Spirit of the Fusion Monster on the field.

"K-Ker? You know 76 can hear you, RIGHT?."

The Duel Spirit blushed, and banished before saying a word.

"Hehe...she's kidding...so, good game Greg!" - he fisted Greg friendly on the chest and turned to Taio - "Hey where are my cupcakes woman!?"

The woman continued to take her turn, placing her hand on her final facedown as she seemed to regain her composure. "Spell. Fuhma Shuriken." She flipped the card up to reveal that it was a Spell, not a Trap! Crimson Shadow withdrew the iconic silver shuriken with red markings, and he juggled the shuriken around. (2400 ATK -> 3100 ATK) "Attack Spike...with Assassiraptor." The camouflage-clad Cretaceous creature cocked his rifle, and fired, sending an armor-piercing round through the Cadet and damaging Amber. (Amber: 2800 LP) "Attack directly with...Crimson Shadow..." The ninja disappeared in a red blur, and Amber then felt something hard knock her to the ground. (Amber: 0 LP)

"AAAH!!!" Amber shouted as a she fell and landed on her backside "O...owwww..."

"M'Lady! Are you alright?"

Amber wasn't badly hurt, but she was rather surprised... She had actually felt pain... She wasn't expecting that at all.

"I.. I lost..." Amber sat up and looked at her opponent. "... Please... Please don't take him away..."

Amber's eyes were teary, scared that this woman would take her number.. Or worse... She had already heard of the Number Destroyers... She had no idea if that was the kind of person this woman was or not. She was scared, for the first time in a while.

The woman grimaced as her monster disappeared, but breathed a sigh of relief as the glowing, throbbing number on the outside of her hand faded. She deactivated her Duel Disk, the tattoo around her eye fading while her shoulder tattoo and her left eye reverted back to normal. She pushed the stock back into its original position and configuration while she unloaded her Deck. She walks over to Amber and stands over her for a few seconds before squatting down and offering a hand to the young woman. "Good game." She told Amber in her strange way of shortening sentences. "Need help?"

the emotions the nicer girl was feeling were quite strong, there was nothing he could do but watch her take the last attack, it seemed that it had caused her pain, the backdraft of the attack did make him move back a bit, Number cards were amazing....they seemed to make duels real. "wow" was all that came out of his lips as he looked at Amber stand, begging not to have her card taken...but she mentioned it as if it was a person. "some duelists are closer to their cards then I am...." he said as he looked at the cards on her D-pad.

Amber looked up at the woman as she offered to help her up. She thought for sure that she was going to be much more cruel than that. "Well... I guess looks can be deceiving..."She thought to herself as she cautiously took the woman's hand, and got up to her feet with her assistance.

"So... You didn't duel me to get Zebulos?" Amber asked, hoping that her answer would be "no". "And if that is the case.. Why did you challenge me to a duel like that..?"

"Amber... Though I have said before many Number Holders can't be trusted... I think this woman, though a bit strict.. may very well be an exception.. Though I am just as baffled as you are as to why she challenged you to a duel."

Amber looked to the woman, and then to her own hand. She then started to think back to when she saw the woman's painful expressions from before. Amber looked to the woman again with concern. "You looked like you were in pain before.... Have you had your number for very long...?" Amber paused... "I only ask.. cause I myself haven't been with Zebulos for very long... but I never feel any negative effects from him..."

Meanwhile, a fair way off, Dr. Faker had managed to get to the grounds where the WDC would take place. As he predicted, there a whole range of Numbers to choose from. According to his trusty PDA, Akuma must've banished 3 more Numbers into the Balian Sector, before a fourth had finally become in her possession. However, there were still a wide variety of cards that Dr. Faker could attempt to collect before focusing on trying to access that sector. He started by approaching 2 female persons who had just finished a duel, after detecting Number 12 not too far from his current location. Of course, it was Number 12's bearer that had won.

"Not bad," Dr. Faker stated after making a small applause, "Not bad at all. Though I suppose that's to be expected for WDC purposes, would it not? Anyway, I best introduce myself before going any further. Dr. Faker, duel theory examiner."

Of course, those last three words he said were a lie. Dr. Faker was in truth none to interest in examining duel theory, and the only things that even remotely concerned him were collecting Number Cards and anything that would impede his progress. However, claiming to be a duel theory examiner was part of a brilliant plan that he had just hatched up. The other part was to "conduct an ante duel experiment" on the group, and hope that only a Number Holder would step up to the plate.

"Now, I need someone to help me with an experiment," Dr. Faker continued, "I'm effectively trying to answer the question of how one would duel if their rarest card were to be offered as an ante. Do I have any takers?"

"Amber... Don't trust this one... I sense a bad aura from this man..."

"... Dr.Faker was it...?" Amber Asked the stranger who had just presented himself "Sounds rather.. suspicious.. How do we know you are who you say you are...?"

Amber knew this man had to have seen the duel that just took place.. So she assumed he already knew of the numbers.. If She dueled him... and lost... She could lose yet another friend... She wasn't going to let it happen...

Josep looked at the other two duelists, they both seemed exhausted from the duel before them and would have their concentration shot while dueling. "Well, if neither of these lovely ladies are up to it, I'm game, Duel theory is one thing, an Ante duel would get me pumped up for this kind of thing anyway."

His body changed demeanor and from almost out of nowhere an old model Duel Disk, nearly a relic by Heartland standards was placed on the young man's wrist. "COME ON THEN!" he shouts out loud not even hearing Amber's questioning of the man, maybe he was just egging for a duel.

The woman dusted off Serah professionally, then turned to see Doctor Faker approach. She listened to the new arrival, some sort of odd old man with a rather suspicious aura, spill his spiel, and asks him simply once he was done. "Duel theory examiner? Should know of Prof. Misawa's extensive essay on ante duel psychology, or have read Mekka Roba's speculative book regarding modern applications of ante duels, using accounts and KaibaCorp data of Battle Cities I-III." It was completely surprising, but she seemed to know plenty about duel theory, but for what purpose was totally unknown.

It was a good thing... She didn't know any of these people.. but it seemed as though the young man realized that the duel they just had easily did a number on her and the other woman.. Or at the very least Amber was fatigued... Amber looked to the woman, whose name she still did not know, and then to Dr. Faker. She couldn't place it.. but there was something about him that really made her feel uneasy.. perhaps it was what Zebulos said about him.. What did he know about this man that he wasn't telling her...? But for now, Knowing not to trust him was all she needed to know for now... at least until Dr.Faker could answer the questions the woman had just asked..

She was concerned however... It would have been a pity if the young man lost his rarest card to a person like Faker... Even if he was a normal duelist, losing your rarest card meant your deck would be ruined..

"Answer the question Faker..." Amber Demanded. Now all the sudden it was like she was looking out for the young man now.

"Well!" Taio said, clapping his hands, "That was interesting! And I heard everything your guys' spirits said, cuz I'm the one with weird powers! That means the part about you monster striping for you, Markus. That was really awkward. And yes Jayce, I only run a Machine deck. And I like your guys' decks too, but unless you've got anymore, me and Jayce know most of your tricks! And I look forward to dueling the both of you sometime in the WDC!" He stopped to take a sip of his hot chocolate. "Well, Greg. We'd--well, I'd--be honored if you joined our little clique." He took another bite off his muffin, then pulled his deck from his pocket. "Who wants to talk to me?"

Thou shall speak, your lordship

"And who am I speaking to?"

Cyber Dragon, you lordship

"You don't have to speak like that..."

But it beeth proper, sir

"Its not like we're in early England, so drop it."

Drop what, sir?

"Ugh."

Taio looked back up at his friends. "Cyber Dragon speaks Archaic English," he said.

Shade sat on his motorcycle on top of a building near where the WDC was to take place. "Soon, all who are guilty will gather here, and judgement shall be unleashed upon those who drive this world to dystopia. A utopian future cannot exist in this world." He looked down and readjusted his mask, and then noticed a man approaching two women and a man. The women had just had a duel, and the dangerous looking one, V, had used a number. Number 12: Crimson Shadow Armor Ninja. That card would be incompatible with my deck, he thought. Then he noticed who the approaching man was. "Faker," he grumbled to himself. He currently seemed to be making a fool of himself, so Shade was moderately happy with that. "I think," he said, "I'll get a closer look." He revved up his bike, and adjusted himself. He blasted off, jumping straight of the building and over the heads of the four people. He flicked his wrist, and a chain shot from his sleeve, grappling to a telephone pole across from them. He pulled, and flew straight for it. He turned the bike slightly, the withdrew the chain. He landed slanted on the ground next to the four people. "Greetings, Josep, Amber, V, and of course the highly acclaimed Dr. Faker. It's nice to see you."
