"Ouch! That smarts." Amber says sarcastically as she draws her card. "hmmm... I'll play this monster face down on the field, and I'll play this Fissure card to destroy your Alien Kid!"

The ground shakes a bit to create a fissure under the alien kid, making him fall into the abyss below.

James frowned. "Now why is it that whenever I have a virus, my opponent's just set?" he asked in a joking whine. He drew his next card and looked at it. "Ah now this is a goodie. It lacks the ability to spread a counters and weaken monsters from A-Counters. But now meet the master of A Counters," again pausing for dramatic effect, "The Hypno Toad... I mean Alien Hypno," he amended quickly, that being part of the joke. He was somewhat unsure if people would get the reference.

"Alien Hypno is a Gemini Monster, so you have nothing to worry about at the moment. However once he has been properly gemini summoned, I may select monsters you control with A-Counters and take control of them. As he explained the alien's unique abilities a rather frail looking alien with an oversized head was lowered by the recurring green beam. It floated above the ground for a moment until a mechanical test tube shot up from the ground and enclosed it's legs and lower body.

"Now to to put a number to his strength," he said, placing a card in his spell and trap zone. A holographic spell card appeared in front of him showing a ring of Ojamas. "2400. Solidarity will additionally boost not only Alien Hypno but all other reptiles of mine as long as I have only reptiles in the grave. Although it works with any type."

He then paused, deciding that such an explaination wouldn't be too necessary. "Hypno shall attack." The Grey lifted its hands and the air around it rippled as it attacked the set monster with telepathic power.

Regardless of how the attack ended, his turn would end after that.

"Not so fast!" Amber Said as she flipped a trap card. "You activated my Magic Cylinder!"

A Cylinder came up from nowhere and reflected the attack back at her opponent's LP.

"Alright!" Amber Ginned.

Amber drew a card Once she gets realizes it is her turn, and smirks, "I won't play anything this turn." She said "You're move"

James frowned as he took the hit from Magic Cylinder, it being a rather heavy blow to his life points after Solidarity. He drew his next card and looked at it. "OH HAPPY DAYS!" he said in English, his poker face awful to say the least. "I activate Code A Ancient Ruins!" In front of him a stone slab rose from the ground, a blue pulsing glow emanating from the structure. "As long as this card is face-up on the field, when an alien is destroyed, it gains an A counter. Additionally once per turn, I can remove two A counters to revive any alien from my graveyard.

"Next I shall summon my amazing Alien Ammonite." The green light returned and it dropped what looked to be a helix shell. Tentacles began to reach out from the shell and into the ground. Alien Kid was dragged out of the ground, pulled up by the tentacles. "When Alien Ammonite is normal summoned I can special summon one alien from my graveyard, that will then be destroyed during the end phase. Not that that will happen mind you," he added. He then pointed toward the shelled reptile, "This is because Alien Ammonite is also a tuner."

The alien kid and Alien Ammonite were both enveloped in a green light and pulled up into the air, where a dark cloud was beginning to form. James then tilted his head up and whistled five notes from Close Encounters of the Third Kind. He paused and did so again. After that he whistled the first three notes and the cloud lit up with colors as the last two notes were trumpetted by the descending Cosmic Fortress Gol'Gar.

(Turn is not over, stopping now to await any chains, before continuing.

"Oh Sweet Honey Iced Tea...." Amber cursed under her breath as there wasn't anything she could do about this The Syncro Summon.

As she was about to panic, she heard the voice of her number in her head. "Relax Amber.. Remember.. This isn't a wager match after all. There's nothing to lose if you happen to lose to this man."

"You're Right Zebulos... I need to keep calm..."Amber Thought to herself.

"Now I activate the effect of Gol'gar," James continued, pointing first at solidarity then at Code A Ancient Ruins. Both cards were then pointed at by Gol'gar's many tentacles. The Ojamas were lifted up and thrown into the sky followed shortly after by the ruins. "Gol'gar can return any number of face-up spell and trap cards on the field to the owners' hands then distribute A counters equal to the number returned." Two counters began to crawl on the synchro monster. This was where things would likely end.

"I activate my two continuous spell cards again," he said, playing both Code A and Solidarity. "I now activate the effect of Code A Ancient Ruins," James said, the ruins shooting two beams at Gol'gar, striking the counters and dragging them toward itself. The ruins then began to glow brighter and brighter and soon Alien Ammonite began to form at the base. The tuner monster then began to float up into the sky slowly followed by the gemini monster Alien Hypno.

James whistled up into the sky just as he had before, using the same tune. On the third time, the second Gol'gar finished the song, descending to join the first. "I now activate the effect of my new Gol'gar," he said, pointing toward his two spells again. Once more the two were returned and two A counters appeared on his cards. "Now I activate the other effect of Gol'gar," he continued.

"Once per turn, I can remove two A counters from anywhere and destroy any card on the field." The Gol'gar with the counters crawling on it lifted two more of its tentacles and grabbed hold of the A-counters, crushing the small things and absorbing their strength. The synchro's eyes glowed and beams shot toward his opponent's back field, destroying whatever it was.

"Now then, I'll activate solidarity and let the battle begin." The large five star synchro on the left began to move forward, lifting one tentacle and slapping it down on the face-down. If the battle was favorable the other one would attack directly. Both of the monsters were at 3200 ATK.

The Monster Destroyed was a Jade Knight. It had the effect of allowing Amber to Send a Lv. 4 Light Machine to her hand from her deck.. but it didn't matter. the duel was over.

"AH!" As the shock wave from the destroyed monster and direct attack knocked her off balance, and leaving her LP at 0... "Oh man..."

She bowed her head a bit, a little disappointed that she lost. "Sigh... I guess you win."

"Chin up M'Lady, There's no harm done." Said the voice of her Number card in her head.

"I'm still not good enough It seem" Amber looked a bit concerned about something, but quickly regained her composure and looked to James. "That was a good game, uh... What was your name anyway?"

James felt rather embarrased now for having forgotten to introduce himself. The monsters vanished as he removed his D-Gazer, the holograms soon vanishing from others' eyes as the duel disk deactivated and his cards were returned to his deck. "The name's James Verne," he introduced, walking toward her and offering a hand to her to shake, that being common way to introduce one's self where he was from.

"It has been a while since I've seen Gradius cards used. Ah I miss them quite a bit," he said, shaking his head from side to side. "Brings back memories from the arcade games I played."

Amber shook James' hand "It's nice to meet you James. My name is Amber, in case you forgot." She said with a meek smile. "We should probably be headed to that Tournament now."

The very thought of the tournament seemed to distract her for a moment. She was starting to worry that she might not be able to so much as find her friend Seth, much less help him. After all, If she couldn't beat this guy... who was to say she could beat anyone at this tournament? She herself knew very little about Numbers, and yet she had one of her own She even made sure the sleeves on her hoodie were extra long so no one would see a number appear on her hand.

She turned toward the direction she thought the tournament was located and began walking... in the wrong direction...

"Um... Lady Amer...?" Said Zebulos "You're headed the wrong way.. The tournament in in the opposite direction."

"Oh! Whoops!" Amber said seemingly to herself. "Wrong way. heh heh.."

Taio nodded. "Hmph. Its done. Lets goooooo!" He hopped back on the board and zoomed back towards the alley. He approached it fast, and then turned, riding vertically up the side of one of the buildings forming the alley. He reached the top quickly, and then came to a fast ans sudden halt. He tapped a button on his Gazer, and his board disappeared. "I guess I'll just watch from up here." Immediately, he knew that the boy dueling the Number Destroyer was a number holder himself. Duh. She wouldn't duel him otherwise. I hope she gets whats coming to her. Numbers have souls, and she's killing them! Taio looked to his side and noticed to people watching from a park bench. One was a woman, and the other was an old guy with a totally bogus haircut. He didn't know why, but something about that man just made him feel really uncomfortable.

--Come on, little number holder! Beat this woman to the ground!--

--He can't here you--

--Whoops. Forgot we were disembodied voices inside Taio's mind--

AMBER

As Amber walks towards the Tournament, after being kindly redirected by her number card, She walks by a building.. after building... after building...

"AAARGH!!" Amber Groans loudly from boredom. "Why are there SO many tall buildings around here!?"

"Well.. We ARE in a City M'lady..." Said Zebulos "Just be patient, We are at least heading in the right direction."

"I wish there was at least some mode of transportation to get me there quicker.." Said Amber with a Twitch. "Walking these streets by myself is a little.. unnerving... I kinda feel like I'm being watched..."

"Don't worry, I will warn you if I sense any immediate danger." Zebulos says reassuringly "And I will do whatever I can to help you find and save your friend Seth as well."

"Thank you Zebulos..." Amber continues onwards toward the tournament.

Despite what he had just said, Zebulos knew that there would be danger around every turn for Amber. As long as she held his card, She would be a target. He would not tell her this, because he knew that Amber was lacking confidence. If she knew the trouble she would be getting into too soon, she would become scared and lose focus. Even now, he could sense the other souls of number cards near by, but hopefully, no one would bother them until the tournament. He meant what he said, he would warn her if anything was up, and he was going to help her find her friend as well.

SETH

Seth was already at the Location of where the tournament was supposed to begin, unfortunately, it seemed like he was a bit too early as the staff were still working on the finishing touches for the opening ceremony, whatever that was... Seth could care less about that himself, he just wanted to beat more duelists to prove he was the better duelist.

"Hmph... I guess I might as well register while I wait for things to get started..." Seth thought to himself.

"Hold it! I sense someone coming..." Said a voice from his number "I believe it's your little friend, Amber."

"Hmph.. What in the world is SHE doing here?" Seth asked.

"It would seem that she wants to prove you wrong... She doesn't think you have what it takes to be the champion of this tournament..." His number responded. "But we will prove HER wrong Seth.. We'll crush her just like we will everyone else... hehehehe..."

Seth simply shrugged, then put on a grin. "Whatever you say Bacterian... Even if I find myself having to use you, I'll do just that.. Even you Amber... So watch out! hahaha!"

"Hey Taio are you ok? You seem kinda...weird" - Taio was watching the duel seriously, like if he knew the duelists. Markus tried to avoid questions for now, and decided to sit on his hoverboard, floating besides his friend - "Who do you think will win? She's already at 2000 so this can't last too long, amirite?"- he then jumped off the board onto the building on top of the alley - "Can you save my board? Since we are sitting here..."

Taio nodded. "Sure," he said. Markus's board disappeared into thin air, just like Taio's. "And that woman is at 2000 because she payed life points to activate some spell card." Taio surprised himself with this statement. It was like he got to the area the duel was taking place, and the history of the duel flashed before his eyes. Things were really getting weird for Taio now...and then things got even weirder. He noticed he hadn't activated his Gazer, but he could see duel and the monsters perfectly clear. He didn't even bother activating the Gazer. This power he had...he brought 16 back from the shadow realm, he could feel number monsters and talk to them, he could see history of duels, and now he saw monsters and duels. What was wrong with him. Then Taio surprised himself even more. He opened his mouth to speak and said the last thing he wanted to. "Markus, your a number holder. So am I, and so is that guy down there. And you see that woman? She's a number destroyer. She takes number cards and tears them in half. Which kills them. Because they are alive. Numbers aren't just cards. They're are sentinel beings. I know because I can hear them. Its a totally nifty power, but Number 16 is really annoying."

--Who knows what else you can do?--

--I am thoroughly offended!--

Jayce, standing apparently forgotten behind Markus and Taio, gasped. "Wait a minute here. Did you just say that you, and Markus, are Number holders? Like, you have mythical cards with cool magical powers somehow? And They're actually alive, and that guy has one, and that random lady destroys them, and you somehow knew that she used a spell even though we just got here, and we rode to this place on holographic flying skateboards. I normally don't like to swear, but I'd really like to know what the hell is going on here?" He galred at the other boys.

As Amber continues to walk on and on, something eventually caught her eye. She stopped at the corner of a tall building, just barely peeking around it with her back to the wall. She had stumbled on to what looked like a duel. She saw a woman, and a boy. The woman's eyes looked like she could pierce through one's soul, this intimidated her a bit.

"Looks like more duelist having a duel.. but this one looks serious.." She thought to herself. "What do you think Zebulos...? Should I take a detour?"

"Yes.. That would be most wise..." Zebulos replied. "Do you see that woman there?"

"Yeah... what about her?"

"We must avoid her at all times.. If you get a chance to run or avoid her, you best take it.."

"Why?"

"She is a Number Destroyer... Challenge any duelist with a number card, and when they win, they take that number card and ripped it in half.. Killing it..."

"So... you mean... If I lost to her.. I would lose you forever?"

"Yes... Lets take a detour so at the very least, she won't see us. If you get lost, I will guide you back on track."

Amber nodded, and tried going around a few buildings in order to avoid being seen by the duelists. Hopefully nobody else near by was a number destroyer...

Taio nodded. "That, Jayce, is the shortened version." Taio hadn't put a lot of thought into anything yet, but know it was all coming to him. "Yes, me and Mark are number holders. I have two; Number 16 and 44. Markus has..." Taio stopped, looking over at him. "66. Don't know how I know that. I just do. More freaky powers. Numbers are not mythological. They're very real, and very powerful. If in the wrong hands, they can drive an innocent man insane with power. I'm a lucky one. Instead of being possessed or something like that by my numbers, we exist in the same space, at the same time." He paused for a moment. "Like overlays in an Xyz. Or something vague and weird like that." He then pointed to the destroyer. "That woman there finds number holders like me and Mark, beats them to an inch of their life, then takes their numbers and tears them in half. My second number, 16, was killed by her. I somehow retrieved him from the shadow realm, which is basically hell for duel monsters. Apparently humans can end up there too. Getting things back from the shadow realm is just another one of my...talents. Next, when we got here, the whole duel flashed before my eyes. Like...I can see the past, but only in duels. Weird. And whats even weirder," he stopped and removed his Gazer. "Is that I can still see the duel perfectly. And the holographic hoverboards are just scientific miracles. Deal with it." He stopped and looked back at his friends, most likely dumbfounded. "Do you guys believe in Duel Spirits? Like the ones that live inside cards? Cuz' I think I have some connection with them...with their world..."

--The duel monster spirit world...it makes sense now...Taio, you can do so much more. You are a gifted person! Taio, you are connected with duel spirits. You talk to us, you can save us from the shadow realm, and now you can see them! Human, I under estimated you. You are a powerful, gifted being. And you will need all those powers, and then some, to save this world. Something bad is going to happen, and you, your friends, the number monsters, and the WDC are all going to be involved. You must be prepared. It will be eat or be eaten. Train. Prepare. Rest. Discover the rest of your powers. You will need them all--

--That was an interesting monologue filled with spoilers--

"Um...um...um...uh..." Jayce was, at this point, understandably rather shocked. "So basically...you're a technological genius, with a whole lot of relatively unexplainable magical abilities involving a card game, including rescuing things from a version of Hell. And you think you're connected to living Duel Monsters cards."He suddenly stopped talking, and slapped himself across the face. "Ow! OK...apparently, I'm not having a demented, long dream. So...um...I guess I'm the only normal person within 30 feet of this area?" He laughed nervously a little.

Taio squinted at Jayce. "Yes. I am a genius. Thanks for the complement. And I feel you doubt my magical card game powers. And yeah, they're are damn hard to explain. And you also doubt that I believe in duel spirits. Now. I wouldn't believe if my cards didn't talk to me. And we're all sane here, and this is not a dream." He shook his head. "You have a hard time accepting what is true because you limit your mind to the known world. But maybe Markus believes me. Do you, Markus?" He turned to Markus, who had been pretty silent.

Markus was trying to understand just how did Taio know. And all that he said...it was true. Number Destroyer? He wouldn't risk to lose Pain like that...

"Do you, Markus?" - Taio had turned to Markus, and he realized he hadn't said a single word in minutes. - "I...I do. There's no other way you would know my Number...and I also believe in Duel Spirits, even if I haven't seen one at all. Pain, or Number 66 as you know him, may not talk to me, but he communicates somehow. I feel his anger, anxiousness or excitement. My brother always said that Pain was special to him...I wonder if he could talk to his Number before giving it to me. That's how I got 66 after all. Somehow, everything you say makes a lot of sense, like the pieces of a puzzle." - Markus searched his jacket's inner pocket - "Here. This is Number 66, the Gargantuan Pain." - said Markus, while showing his black Exceed card to Taio and Jayce. The image showed a bronze colored robot on a destroyed city. - "Ca-can I see 16 and 44? I feel curious..."

After some time, Amber finally grew tired of walking, and decided to have a seat on a bench, which wasn't too far from the duel, but at least she herself couldn't be seen by the duelist she had seen before. She looked around to see if the cost was clear, and then pulled out her number Card.. 93.. or Zebulos as she referred to him as.

"Zebulos... I know that I am going to need your help to save Seth.. but what if I lose you in a duel...?" Amber said nervously.

"We'll worry about that when the time comes M'lady.. But for now, Perhaps we should take some time to make some sort of plan?"

"I suppose so.. All I can think of is to maybe try to find others like me who would be willing to help me out..." Amber sighed "But how do I know who I can really trust..."

Amber began to think of what else she could do.. She was still tired from all the walking however, and decided to pull out a sketch pad and pencil from her backpack. She opened the sketch pad to a clean page and started to draw something on it.

"What are you doing M'lady?"

"All this traveling has made me a bit tired.. I need a short break."

"Great.. knowing you, you'll be at that sketch pad for hours too.. huh... oh well."

Jayce raised an eyebrow when Matkus revealed Number 66. "So that's a Number huh? Named Gargantuin Pain. And it's a destructive robot. That's a magical card that some lady is willing to beat people up to rip in half. These things are seriously not nice and huggy. I mean really, I'd rather hug Laggia than that thing, and I really wouldn't want to hug Laggia..." He blushed slightly. "Um...OK, I'm just kind of rambling on now. give me a minute..." He took a few deep, calming breaths. "Alright, I'm good now. So...do we just watch now or what?"

Taio shook his head. "No, they are not nice and huggy." He then turned to Markus. "66, huh? Nifty giant robot. Robots are cool. Its construction is unorthodox...but then again, its a sentient being from another world." He laughed, and then reached into his pocket, grabbing 44 and 16. "These are my friends, Mashiman the Ultimate Fortress, and Shock Master." He held them out for both to see. "As you can see, 44 is a gigantic frigging robot dragon, and 16 is...some...fairy lizard horned circus-tent thing? I really don't know." He shook his head. "I wish you guys could hear them, or even your own cards. Getting their opinion is...unique. 16 is... awkward, and 44 is a calm voice of reason." He smiled at his friends. "Lets just watch this duel. If the destroyer wins, I'll be ready to jump down and save that guys number!"

--That'a boy, Taio!--

--Use your powers wisely. Thisis indeed a good reason--

"Why wouldn't you hug Laggia? I mean, Dolkka is softer, but whatever" - he grinned, and then looked at Taio's Numbers - "So...Mashiman is a robot dragon, and S. Master is a...candy cane? Seriously, I don't even know!" - he then looked down - "When the duel ends...whatever happens, we jump and help the kid. Can I use a gun?"

Jayce shrugged at Markus's comment. "Well, Laggia IS a big fire shooting dragon who probably wouldn't take very well to being randomly hugged...he seems like a guy who'd have a temper." Then he looked down at the Numbers Taio was holding. "Definately a robot dragon, Mashiman is but as for Shock Master...I'd say he looks more like an even more demonic clown. Although he does look like he'd be 'awkward'. Anyway...we're planning to play the heroes and jump in to save a Number if that lady wins and tries to kill it? Sounds good, but I'll just warn you that I'm not the type of guy who's good at jumping off buildings and ninjaing people..."

Taio laughed. "Um, no guns. We're, like, 14." He then looked over at Jayce. "Don't be silly. We don't need to ninja people. We have holographic flying skateboards. We can ride down on those." He then looked back down at the duel. "The Destroyer might use violence if we screw with them after the duel. Like, what if she has evil magic powers? Her's could be much more violent and destructive than mine. So we might need some kind of defense. I could make a gigantic holographic wall." Taio's attention changed again to the guy with the bogus haircut at the park across from the duel. Taio felt that he was much more dangerous than the Destroyer...
