[MTG] IRL Mountain Deck

Recommended Posts

Hey guys, just recently started playing Magic, and I'm at the stage where I'm getting the hang of the game itself. Unfortunately, I still have no idea of all the cards that are out there, and therefore I'm not sure how to improve my deck... And that's a problem because I've been wanting to jazz it up for a long time.

So... without further ado, here's my deck

Lands: 25
x24 Mountain
x1 Dragonskull Summit

Creatures: 20
x3 Goblin Fireslinger
x2 Goblin Arsonist
x2 Crimson Mage
x2 Lightning Elemental
x2 Crumbling Colossus
x2 Flameblast Dragon*
x2 Volcanic Dragon
x1 Manic Vandal
x1 Balefire Dragon*
x1 Goblin Piker
x1 Fiery Hellhound
x1 Feral Ridgewolf

Sorceries: 4
x2 Tectonic Rift
x1 Lava Axe
x1 Fireball

Instants: 9
x4 Shock
x2 Incinerate
x2 Slaughter Cry
x1 Chandra's Outrage

Enchantments: 2
x1 Firebreathing
x1 Warstorm Surge

Cards marked * are the cards I want to focus on

As you can tell, this is in fact a full-on mountain deck... atm. But if you have any ideas on any black cards that can help, as long as there's enough of them that they all don't end up dragging the red portion down, I'll take them into consideration nonetheless. Oh, and I wanna keep the whole burn/beatdown feel of the deck, for obvious reasons. Apart from that, fire away.

Well:

1. The cards you're focusing on are just pretty bad. They're cards usually meant for Sealed play, when beatdown is a much larger part of the game. Red is best used as a burn deck with tons of removal.
2. So. Many. Lands.

Cut down to about maybe 15-18 lands for now. Only Green even needs that many lands anyway. Also, MUCH less creatures and focus on burn Sorceries and stuff. Search through Innistrad and Dark Ascension since they have a lot of very powerful flashback stuff.

You can easily splash into Black for stuff like Bump in the Night.

Which format is this for? If this is casual, or Modern or something, I'd recommend getting 4 Lightning Bolt. You're also running, as stated by an above poster, a ludicrous number of lands. That much land will tend to 'flood' your hand, preventing you from getting the instants, sorceries and creatures you need.

Beyond that, I don't have too many more suggestions, except that if you can find a MTG product called the "Deckbuilder's Toolkit" at a local store, look into buying it. It'll come with a pack or two, a few 'blocks' of semi-random cards, a lot of basic land, and an advice guide.

Well... the deck itself is casual atm, but I was hoping to improve the deck so it would be more tournament ready.

...

Anyway, I've decided that I'll cut down to about 15 Mountains, and replace them with some actual Dragon support, although I'll need to wait for my credit card to come in (I just recently ordered one) before I can buy any more cards. Oh, and I will be sure to grab some Lightning Bolts as well.

So yeah... in the end, it's gonna be a Goblin/Dragon burn deck. Am I on the right track, or am I way off somewhere?

So, since I really want this deck to be tournament ready, I assume you're suggesting I take it out?

mmmm No I was asking you if you wanted me to help you building a Casual Warstorm Surge Based Deck...but...if that is not the case...tell me more so I can see how to help you well

Well... I know I'm running too many lands (I've already had two people tell me that), and I plan to swap some of those lands with Dragon support. And I know I need to keep some low cost monsters in the Deck, otherwise I won't be getting anywhere, which is why I wanna keep the Golbins, or perhaps even get some more of them.

So yeah, I basically need Dragons, some support for said class, and cards with no more than 2 converted mana cost, just so I don't get screwed. Oh, and I'm fine with black cards or those that need Swamps to run, just so long as there's enough of them that they don't drag the rest of the deck down.

IMO Green is a Better pair color granted Green Give you the Accelaration you may need to play your Big Spells faster...

Also if you are going to run cards with 5 or higher CMC 24 Lands is an OK number of Lands to play...seriously

Or he could get rid of the high CMC cards, and run about 20 lands.

Actually, I have a better idea: I'll throw in a couple of these guys. They should cut down the cost of the two dragons that I'm running at the moment, plus some others that I wanna run. I'll still wanna cut down on the land though, about 20 should be fine

Why he said he wanted to play that...or what...you will tell me that Wolf Ramp Run must take the Titans ways so it can run a lower land count now?

What about Spirits...they run a Mana Curve that tops at 4 at most yet it runs 24 Lands...

TC: I'm figuring that you are not aware of formats...but can you please tell me if you want to run cards from older set as well? that opens the number of Options...QUITE A LOT
