Sad moments in Video Games

It's incredible how even Sprites can portray such a sad scene... I never got that far on FFV but damn, I feel sorry for Galuf. Come to think of it, most of Persona 4's scenes were pretty damn saddening like this one
When Dom sacrifices himself. First time watching the scene I was pretty much having a panic attack and screaming at my television. Crazy, yes, but I couldn't help it. Over the course of three games and seeing everything his character went through, it was as though he was a real person and I couldn't bear to see him go.

At the end of Emi's story arc when she finally tells you about her past. Again, it's another case of me getting so emotionally attached to a character that by the time it's over, I don't want it to be. I still think about Emi whenever I'm about to give up on something and it helps me get through it.

When John Marston is gunned down. It was rough. He wasn't necessarily a character that I could relate to, but he was one that I could respect and it pained me to see him go through all sorts of trouble just to have his family back and be lulled into a sense of security right before being killed. It didn't make me bawl or anything, but it definitely left me feeling sad.

Ghost's death. Funny how the story was so outlandishly terrible and character development was non-existent, and yet Ghost's death managed to strike the right chord with me just because I thought he was cool. Probably the most shallow of my reasons for feeling sad about a video game moment, but it wasn't the only FPS that twisted my heart.

The very end of the tank mission when the father gets executed. The quick backstory that was given just portrayed the guy as any military man might truly be; a loving father and husband who can't wait to return to his family. He had to barrel on into a hellhole and wasn't able to so much as say goodbye. The first thing I did when I had returned to the area he was executed at in whatever mission it was was look for the toy he was given from his kid.
Those are all of my personal saddest moments in video games. Katawa Shoujo may be more of an interactive animation but whatever, it still makes the list.

Emi's was sad?
Lilly's Act 4 made me want to explode.

that's not sad for the part in Battlefield. Casualties are a part of war, you cry over them and it comes back to bite you.

I certainly didn't cry when Soap died in MW3

Then you have no Soul. Soap was a hero in MW2 and fought hard along with Price to clear his name (Hense TF141 Disavowed) I for one felt very sorry for Soap, especially Price's reaction to the whole thing.

Seriously, if you felt no emotion then you truly have no Soul. Price showed Raw Emotion as one of his best friends just died. The Music was almost crying along with how he felt. Put yourself in Price's shoes.....

Oddly enough, I didn't play the other story arcs. I did the same thing when I played Heavy Rain. I do a single runthrough and the choices I make stick. Only game I haven't followed that preference on has been the Mass Effect series. I feel it makes all the decisions and events you went through more meaningful in the end.

And you are too naive to the horrors of war, J-max. In warfare you're going to see plenty of your friends and allies get killed.

Eventually once too many die, you'll reach a point where you will no longer be able to feel any emotion at all. You become part of the machine, only understanding kill, kill, and kill some more.

This was exactly why that moment wasn't sad. Don't forget about the basic rule about war: there is always a price to be paid for victory. You didn't honestly think the hero would always LIVE to see the ending, did you?

The other stories are really engaging though, you should try them.

if you've played any of the kingdom hearts games and haven't shed any tears, you are heartless (no pun intended).
but I never played any Kingdom hearts games

OT: I actually have played KH and I've got to say there were moments that made me sad, not sad enough to really stand out among other games, though. Like when Sora unlocks his own heart to bring back Kairi.

edit: ninja'd, but it still stands

oh please. Did YOU cry when Soap died in the campaign? Or were you too busy playing the multiplayer to care?
I didn't cry but I was pretty sad watching it. Multiplayer is a completely different story. You could put every opponent as Soap and I wouldn't feel any sympathy.

Look J-max the point is that obviously you WANT to see Soap get through at the end, but that's not always what happens. Besides, I found his death necessary to fuel Price's rage against Makarov
Hense why Price then punched Yuri square in the Jaw knocking him through a Door. Price had already seen Kamarov die and after his spell in the Gulag, he snapped.
Yeah I want to see the heroes get to the end but it never seems to happen.
Roach dying along with Ghost pulled at the Heartstrings. They never deserved it and it was just so Shepard could get all the credit and be called a Hero. The end of MW2 is where I really respected Soap, he did everything he could to save Price
