Usually, you'll want to play 20 creatures/20 artifacts, enchantments, sorceries and instants/20 lands.

Mana Base (how and which lands you play) is a very advanced matter and should be paid attention at only after you dominate the intermediate levels of the game.

But, those numbers vary a lot from deck to deck, and depending on how your Mana Curve is, you can play either less or more lands. There are decks with only 12 lands, while others with 24/26.

I see. So, to summarize for a beginner aggro deck:

20 creatures (which follow a simple theme)
20 lands (have to follow a simple theme)
20 sorcery/enchantment/artifact cards.

And the best deck for a beginner is White and Blue Human control? How does that work?

Okay, so White and Blue Human Control is based off the new boost that the Human type got from the Innistrad block. This deck can run cards like Champion of the Parish, Grand Abolisher, Thalia, Guardian of Thraben, Elite Inquisitor, Mirran Crusader, Phantasmal Image, Geist of Saint Traft and Hero of Bladehold. Those are powerful standalone cards. The white part of the deck gives fooder for the Aggro part of the deck, which is Humans and their ability for quick damage. The blue part is the Control part. Blue is the color for control, because it's the color of cards like Vapor Snag and Mana Leak. Blue also have cards like Ponder and Gitaxian Probe, which are amazing additions for the deck. You should also be playing Honor of the Pure and Angelic Destiny.

For lands, there are 2 Dual lands of the White/Blue combination, which are Seachrome Coast and Glacial Fortress. Run 4 of each. Then, a nice land to play is Moorland Haunt, which generates more tokens. You can run 2 of this. Then, fill the rest of lands with 5 Plains and 5 Islands.

The decklist should look close to this:

CREATURES:

4 Champion of the Parish
3 Thalia, Guardian of Thraben
2 Grand Abolisher
2 Elite Inquisitor
2 Phantasmal Image
3 Mirran Crusader
3 Geist of Saint Traft
3 Hero of Bladehold

SPELLS:

4 Vapor Snag
4 Ponder
4 Mana Leak
4 Honor of the Pure
2 Angelic Destiny

LANDS:

4 Seachrome Coast
4 Glacial Fortress
2 Moorland Haunt
5 Plains
5 Islands

Note that this is not the optimal build for this deck; I took it off the top of my head. But to begin, it should be excellent.

@ yugioh pussehs: use your time and energy to get better at yugioh rather than try to adopt another game and be bad at both. Its a lot more fun when you're good at something than when you're bad at something.

Steps:
THE BASICS:
- Start playing with an intro pack...(you can search some and build it in online)
- Open some Boosters and search cards that can give said intro pack a boost (You can also try MTG draft Simulators and use the Sealed function for this stuff)
- Play a little more till you feel like going to the next step
Note: It will be better if you stay in only 1 set for this step.
GETTING BETTER:
- Now you'll jump from working on only 1 Set to working into a Block (3 sets + 1 Core Set)
- Grab an Event Deck...play it
- Now you know a little more for Deck Building...Use that knowledge to search to an entire block...mainly the Block that Event Deck belongs to...and search ways to make the deck MOAR playable
STARTING PRO PLAYING:
- Start by getting acknowledge of cardpool
- Do your First Draft
- Netdeck your First Standard Deck
- Do moar drafts
- Learn the Difference between Limited and Constructed
- Start researching more sets, You should start playing Standard therefore try to learn what standard cards do...but try also to go a little further and try Extended as shitty as it is
- Netdeck your first Extended Deck
- Try to build your First Standard Deck from Scratch
- Test a lot
- Start Drafting Modern Legal Sets (go from the newest to the oldest Decks)
- Play a few Extended Blocks
- Build your first Extended Deck from Scratch
- Play a few Modern Blocks
- Build your First Modern Deck
- Playtest a lot
FINALLY:
- Netdeck and build your First competitive Deck

More or less...XD

20/20/20 seems bad because i looked at top decklists and most of them are nowhere near that.

According the opinion here Brandon, it is best to start off with a starter deck before using decks that top oftenly. You need to get a feel for the game before you plunge your hand in there and reap the benefits. Also, from what Klaiver told me, as long as you have a theme and no vanillas in your deck, any deck can be good. 20/20/20 or around there just happens to be right for beginner builds.

I'd also like to add that there are 3 kinds of decks to chose from. Combo, Aggro, and Control.

Combo - Don't worry about this right now. You should be in the Pro category before you start working on a combo deck. Combo decks usually have a few key cards that have absolutely amazing synergy, with a bunch of ways of getting those cards out.

Control - Google search "Mana Leak". That's a control deck in a nut shell. It's not just about getting rid of your opponent's cards, it's about stopping them from ever being able to play them. Blue + Black make a great intro control deck.

Aggro - Speed and creatures are your friend. Aggro decks are very fast and like to thwamp an opponent. You'll be frequently attacking to try and get every last bit of damage in. Green + Red make a great intro aggro deck

I just started a few days ago and I run a netdeck of Wolf Run Ramp and BW Tokens and I'm actually good using them, why do I need to use a starter deck?

Btw, didn't read (much) lol

Becuase unlike Yugimonz Deck are not so Scripted...till you can't find the true way into taking desicions around how the game should move on...you can pull off the full potential of Tournament winning Decks...

Do the test of playing someone that has a lot of time playing and you'll figure out how much hard it is

For instances...what i've adopted trhough years of playing?

So you're saying I should use the decks against their actual veteran creators and then I'll be able to see the difference in skill between me and everyone else?
[/quote]

Literally just play against other Wolf Run players. Wolf Run is far more complicated than simply spamming the Werewolves up a mana curve.

I've found deck builder pretty useful to learn about the cards as it has a better filter system then cockatrice(that i've found) and can give a rough price range of how much said deck would cost (normally on the higher price end).
