Paradox α Finale[A.K.A: Shard's game][Working title]

So, last time I make this topic especially as I now have a title. Anyway, it's a fully 2D Fighter, no 3D used anywhere, not only because I love 2D but it also looks nicer in the style of the game. The story needs a lot of work, and the 32 Characters I currently have, some of them arn't confirmed yet, and some of the gameplay mechanics need a overhaul.

So the way the story goes at the moment... Basicially, it involves the Time Rulers, who are essentially gods. They're getting bored of watching the same thing over and over, so they decide to give out Auras, which are what makes someone a Time Ruler. They then deliberately get a bounty on themselves for some fun, which leads to most of the cast hunting after them. This leads to the entire cast fighting each other over this, and pretty much everything goes from there. I know it's basic, but I'm actually still writing the entire story(sue me.)

I decided to drop the post-apocolyptic world thing, but S.H.R.O.U.D. is still an evil bastard and Colossus still fights him. You might notice I renamed most of the mechanics because "Soul ..." got really dull.

As far as gameplay mechanics are involved, it's a 5-Button game. Weak, Medium, Strong, Soul and Parry. Soul Attacks function differently for each character, similar to Unique Attacks and Drive Attacks, the difference with Soul Attacks is they fill their own meter. Parry is used for many blocking techniques, but does not cover block itself. It's a advanced button that only high-level players will use to it's full extent. Just a bit of information, this isn't supposed to be aimed at Newbies, hence I don't dumb down the gameplay mechanics to seem more accessable. It's still an easily learnable game if you spend time with it, but don't expect to be good at it without practice.

The first special mechanic, Soul Stocks. Soul Stocks are a special type of meter built up by Soul Attacks. When you fill the meter, it converts into a single Soul Stock, on which you can spend for Special Actions such as Overlap Cancel, Soul Bursts and of course, Soul Blaze. Soul Stocks are much more precious than regular meter, and each character can hold up to 4 on Hand. Soul Bursts consume a single Soul Stock, Overlap Cancel uses 2, and to enter Soul Blaze, you need 3 of such Soul Stocks.

Overlap Cancel is a Special Move where your Specials "Overlap" Each other. To do it, simply input the command for another Special Attack whilst you are performing a Special Attack, and you will cancel the Special Attack into another. Note, for balance reasons you can only perform 1 Overlap Cancel in a single combo.

Soul Bursts are a powerful special attack, which consumes 1 Soul Stock to use. Soul Bursts are different for each character, one interesting thing about all Soul Bursts is that they cannot be Comboed into, only comboed from. Some Soul Bursts, like Eric's Ghost Hunter will disable your Soul Stocks for a short period of time.

Soul Blaze is the most powerful of all of all Soul Attacks. To perform it, press Down,Down and then Soul when you have 3 Soul Stocks. The screen will turn black, and your character will start glowing. One thing to note about Soul Blaze is that your defence will be sharply lowered, and it only lasts as long as you have Soul Stocks. It consumes 1 Soul Stock every 30 seconds or so, so it should last for the rest of the round. Note that getting hit will drain your Soul Stocks. Whilst in Soul Blaze, you have the privelage of unlimited Soul Stocks, however each use of a Overlap Cancel or Soul Burst will consume more of your Soul Stocks. Soul Blaze will also increase your general mobility, grant you new special attacks and make your actual attacks stronger.

About Gaining Soul Stocks... For each hit in your combo before you perform a Soul Attack, you'll recieve more Soul Stock Points(It takes 100 to fill one, and you gain 5 for a Soul Attack, as well as 2.5 more for each hit in your combo.) Characters like I.Z. will obviously gain a lot more Soul Stocks than characters like Colossus, so to compensate for this, some normal attacks have the "Soul Heat" Property, which functions like a Soul Attack, however it gives you the same number of default meter points to your Soul Stocks. Colossus's Standing Heavy builds 10 Points of Soul Stock, for instance. This is the same no matter how many hits are on the Combo Counter, making Soul Heat attacks very reliable.

As far as how Default Meter can be used, it can be used for Super Attacks, Tension Limit, Heal Block and EXtreme Specials.

Super Attacks consume 50% of your Default Meter, and are powerful attacks or similar. it should be noted that some supers, such as Colossus's Mighty Colossi and Fang's Wolven Charge have a Soul Heat property. Each character has atleast 1 super, up to a max of 5, and Tia holds the record with 5 Super Attacks.

Tension Limit is sort of your Custom Combo mode. Tension Limit is very slow, and consumes 75% of your Default Meter. When Tension Limit hits, the screen will set on fire, and go to a red background with fast moving lines(you know what I mean, right) during this 5 seconds, you can do attacks freely and combo. Tension Limit is also the only way to acess your character's Ultimate, called Tension Overheat. Whilst in Tension Limit, input a specific motion and your character will perform their ultimate. Tension Overheat will consume 4 Soul Stocks, and is an instant kill move.

Heal Block pretty much does what it says, you won't take chip damage from special attacks, and your character will heal whilst blocking with this. It will consume 1 Point of default meter for each individual attack blocked, and you'll recieve healing equal to /10 of the damage of the attack(if it dealed 250 damage, you'd heal 25 health)

EXtreme specials are basicially more powerful versions of specially attacks you already have, unlike Soul Bursts, they can be used in a combo, and take 15% Defualt Meter and 1 Soul Stock to use. They deal much less damage than Soul Bursts, however. EXtreme Specials are done by tapping the button during the attack's startup.

The Parry Button is a advanced gameplay mechanic, and probably one of the hardest things to master in the game. the Parry Button is used on it's own, and when pressed, your character will do a deflecting motion, which can be used to deflect opposing attacks. The timing is extremely hard to master, ranging between 1 to 3 frames, but you'll gain a full 10% Default Meter and half a soul stock for a single parry. What makes them harder than SF3's parrying system is that your opponent is not left vunerable after a successful parry, this makes it really unsafe. Luckily, you can go back to a normal guard immediately. The parry button really determines the difference between a great player and an amazing player, someone who can parry everything will have the meter avaliable almost all the time.

Projectile Parrying is slightly different, you must press forward and the parry button, but the Projectile will be instantly nerfed. Anyway, these are the special mechanics.
