Xyz Monsters work a bit like Synchro Monsters, you need two or more monsters with the same level and that equals to the rank (equivalent of Levels for Xyz Monsters) of the Xyz Monster you are about to summon. The action is called "overlaying" and the monsters used for the summon will not be treated as leaving the field, they will instead be treated as Xyz Materials which can be used by most Xyz Monsters to activate effects by "detaching" the Xyz Materials (sending them to the graveyard). Xyz Monsters are, unlike Synchro Monsters, unaffected by cards that alter a monster's Level.

after performing "Overlaying". where is the xyz material placed if its not sent to the graveyard?

i mean is it still on the field or placed on a certain place?

It's basically placed underneath the Xyz monster until it's detached.

Xyz material are literally placed underneath the Xyz monster in a stack of cards, with the Xyz on top. Xyz material are in some sort of limbo state, they are not on the field nor are they in the graveyard. They do not count towards cards like Secret Barrel and if they are detached or their Xyz monster removed from the field, they go to the Graveyard and were not treated as being sent from the field to the Graveyard, so cards like Sangan do not get their effects if they are an Xyz material.

same with me. i only played untill synchro monster cause i was usually play yu gi oh! games on a console which in my country just only releashed untill yu gi oh! 5DS series only.

but after i'm reading a lil bit about xyz here, i was kinda understand a bit about the card's effect. im not sure about how to summon it but the card's effect always have something to do with xyz material atached to the xyz card. to attach the xyz material, if im not wrong it need to tribute a monster you control. some has effect to negate attack for example with removing the xyz material that has been attached to the xyz card. and it also will destroyed if it lose all the xyz material.

im not sure if what i was said is right, but i hope it could help you a bit. and hope you'll get a better answer from a more experienced member here. ^_^

Yu-Gi-Oh! Wiki is your friend, however I will try to explain this to my best ability.

Synchro Monsters are placed in the Extra Deck, and can be summoned with the so-called "tuning", where you have to have a "tuner" monster (a specific type of monster) and another monster whose combined Levels equal to the level of the Synchro Monster you are about to summon. (When the action is performed, the tuner and the other monster(s) will be sent to the graveyard).

Xyz Monsters work a bit like Synchro Monsters, you need two or more monsters with the same level and that equals to the rank (equivalent of Levels for Xyz Monsters) of the Xyz Monster you are about to summon.
