Veganism and you.

John A. Zoidberg

Recommended Posts

Veganism is abstaining from use of any and all animal products (i.e. meat, dairy, fur, etc.). Many consider it not only a diet, but a way of life. Now, there is benefit of veganism. It is incredibly healthy (when done correctly, at least), and attempts to end suffering for helpless animals. There is, however, one problem. The majority of vegans that you will encounter on the internet are, to say the least, militant. For example, if you are a member of the popular blogging website, Tumblr, you have likely encountered militant veganism. This isn't to say that all vegans are militant, but a fair few of them are. I personally have seen people come right out and say "If you are not vegan, you are an idiot," and "No redeeming quality of a person could make up for not being vegan," (that being, you could supposedly cure cancer, but if you're not vegan, you're an awful person).

So discuss veganism. Here are some questions to ponder:
-Are you vegan?
-Do you know anyone who is?
-Have you encountered a militant vegan?
-If yes, how did you handle it?

Also please don't turn this into a flame war in case there are any vegans reading this.

This is exactly my problem with the entire thing overall. Some vegetarians/vegans just act like they are superior to meat eaters. However, most I know don't.

He essentially told me that I was a horrible person and that my life will be terrible and he despises me.

and insulted my friends.

At which point, I simply just went completely mad and told him to shut up. Thank god it was in a art class and not something like english.

How is it healthy if we are Omnivores

And yes, I care for animals, but I'm not a Vegitarian or Vegan because well, I can't see how it's healthy.

1.And no, I'm not.
2.sort of.
3.Yes.
4. . . .

I really don't want to explain.
You haven't done your research. We actually have structural similarities to herbivores (most omnivores and carnivores have sharper teeth, obviously used for tearing flesh). Just because we can eat meat doesn't mean it's good for it. We can eat fast food, but it's generally awful for us.

Anyway, veganism is healthy because there are ways to get proteins and whatnot without meat (beans and other things), and it is generally healthier than an omnivorous lifestyle. However, it's all about how much pleasure you want to take in eating. Obviously you're not going to be strictly vegan if you're all about things tasting awesome, since it is pretty undeniable. Meat is delicious.

Out of anything you could consider 'meat,' seafood is the healthiest, for a whole bunch of reasons. Plus, I think it personally tastes better

Not sure if you know this or not, but most vegans actually hate vegetarians. They say vegetarians are hypocritical.

I'm not a vegan, I don't know any, and never met a militant

And you can't just say, 100% BEIGN A VEGAN IS HEALTHIER, because it has its fair share of problems, like, y'know, Iron deficiency?
Iron / B12 / etc. etc. So yeah, I just backed up that argument.

Also, being vegan doesn't really help the environment. Sure, neither does the mass production of meat, but that's not the point here. Cut out animals from the human diet and what do we get? More land being used for plants to be grown on. And if more and more people would switch to vegan, the need for more crops rises, ie the land will be quickly used up and more land would be needed. So all available land will be used to grow crops to feed humans. The problem here is that the land will be drained from its nutrients, so the need for fertile land will never cease.

This method will also kill animals, as the preparation of the land to grow the crops on, in this case mice and moles and rabbits and other creatures may make them lose their habitat to make way for farming, or they might be killed by being ran over by tractors. In the long run, farming crops will kill more animals than people would like to think.

I'm an omnivorous human, as is the usual being (allergies and other related problems are excluded). I eat plants to animals. And I'm fine with that. Call me an awful person? Fine. I'm awful for surviving and not starving myself to death. I know a vegan, and she's fine with it as well. Spank me like a dirty girl, but I never even heard of a militant vegan. I heard of anti-animal abuse and such, but militant vegan? Why I never.
And personally speaking, I think that a little meat, let alone any animal product like milk, in your diet won't kill you. In fact, it might even be good. Little calcium for the bones, little protein for the body, a little satisfaction for you in the end. My opinion.

Go omnivores. =D

And although this might sound like a bad idea, I actually want to try human flesh. Just to try it. Unfortunately, it's high in toxins and other chemicals, and who knows what else? [s]stds[/s]

Think of the poor defenseless plants and fruits!

Bananas skinned alive!
Potatoes mauled!
Corn being cut off of it's cob!
Apples....see bananas
Oranges squished into juice!

It's CRUEL!
Cranberries hunted for the holidays!
Lemons being cut up as a decoration for alcoholic beverages!
Pineapples being put on pizzas!

THE HORROR.

-- On a side note, pineapple pizza is very delicious.

All jokes aside, what vegetarians / vegans (well, some of them at least), who state that eating meat isn't ethical, that their way of life attempts to end animal suffering, are morons. Yes, I called those people moronic. Why? Because they're in denial. Their way of life does not end animal suffering, it just hits different kind of animals (mice, rabbits, pretty much any animals that live in fields that could / would be turned into farms for crops).

1. Nope.
2. Daniel Bryan. No one in person though
3. Daniel Bryan
4. He was an a**hole about it

I am a huge animal lover, and I personally think that the way animals are treated nowadays is horrifying. Growing animals from birth, just so they can satiate our hunger is not what nature intended. Taking away the animal's ability to even have a sporting chance; That's just wrong.

But, I am a meat eater, and I couldn't live without a burger every now and then. But it just truly saddens me how animals are treated. I would go on, but then I'd just get into my views on how animals should have more protection, and rights.

Rant over.

You guys are all being really ignorant about this. You're saying you would forcibly make a person go against a rather beneficial way of life just because you're butthurt about them being a little mean to you? Grow up.

Despite the a******s that are admittedly common, it is a helpful cause it does do the world good. There are just people take it too far and go all Bill O'Reilly over everyone who doesn't live the same way. That's no reason to force them to go against their lifestyle that is committed to benefiting the world.

I didn't say anything of the sort ._.

I don't care if someone's a Vegan, just don't tell me it's "Healthier" when it comes with a good deal of problems.

It isn't always healthier, but it can be, provided you get necessary nutrients (usually artificially).

I'm just saying that there are people out there who make being a vegan look stupid because they're a**holes about it. I actually hold vegans in high regard for their commitment. If there were more vegans, I know the world would be a better place.

Exactly, but saying "I'll tie them up and force them to eat meat" is just messed up.
