~NOiSE~
Dicuss post-hardcore in the likes of Thrice, Thursday, Alexisonfire, etc. Or discuss Hardcore music in the likes of Coalesce, Converge, Botch, etc. I just picked these up today at my local record shop~
John A. Zoidberg
Converge is actually technically metalcore. They created the genre to a certain extent. Also, Glassjaw. /thread
Y2Jgrave
Fugazi, Minor Threat, Refused, Quicksand and Jawbox for really old school post hardcore. At The Drive-In, Blood Brothers, Brand New, Engine Down, Hopesfall, Glassjaw, Thrice and Thursday for modern legends. Don't know much bout Hardcore punk except for Black Flag. And I though both Botch and Converge are metalcore or at least a very influential in that genre.
~NOiSE~
Well yes, but they take heavy influence from hardcore punk, so I think labeling them as hardcore is appropriate. Here's one of the early post-hardcore groups I got into. Still love this album~ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SYrJ-34jLMo
John A. Zoidberg
Influence doesn't make something. If you were a grindcore band that somehow has heavy Michael Jackson influence, it doesn't make you a pop band. You're still grindcore.
~NOiSE~
I get what you're saying, but either term could be equally appropriate. Botch, Converge and Coalesce are generally the three big names that pop up in hardcore music discussions. While Converge my have paved the way for the metalcore bands that follow, they're still a hardcore band at the center. What's a post-hardcore thread without Thrice? John A. Zoidberg
Other than Glassjaw, Thrice is my favorite post-hardcore band. They have some pretty low-key songs for post-hardcore, though.
~NOiSE~
I think Vheissu is probably my favorite Thrice album. Anyone heard of La Dispute? My girlfriend showed me this band...the guy's voice was kind of annoying at first, but it grew on me after awhile. I still think mewithoutYou is better though~ Description fix'd, just realized I had Botch listed as post-hardcore
John A. Zoidberg
La Dispute. I hate them. So f***ing boring. They are a disgrace to the post-hardcore community. Them and one other band whose name escapes me. I hate them both so much. Absolutely horrible. They are to post-hardcore what Illud Divinum Insanus is to Morbid Angel, if anyone gets the reference. ~NOiSE~
Dang, you're the first person I've heard speak negatively about them. I've heard nothing but things.
John A. Zoidberg
I just can't stand them. It's probably because the roots of my musical taste is in Emo and Screamo. La Dispute and Touche Amore (the other band I was talking about) are basically hated by the majority of diehard Emo/Screamo fans. At least from what I've seen. Gospel.
I really like ADTR, but when I saw them on the 17th I realized how much Jeremy sucks ass live. I like blessthefall, although the vocals on the new album are friggin attrocious. Been listening to ssome Hot Cross and Thursday recently and I like em a lot. Four Year Strong. Heehee. This Account is Unplayable
Blessthefall, Alexisonfire, Architects, City Escape, Close to Home, Ice Nine Kills, Deciding Tonight, Sleeping With Sirens, A Skylit Drive, Thrice... I could go on for so much longer. Yeah, I'm obviously more of a fan of the new Post-Hardcore bands, and it's actually more than half of my music collection. Absolutely love the genre. And... honestly never really listened to actual Hardcore, I should at some point.

If anything, they're probably sound like a skramz version of Dance Gavin Dance with Saetia's vocal....probably because they are.
