Mega Man Battle Network: Digital Resonance (ACCEPTING APPS AGAIN)

Recommended Posts

megaman battle network: digital resonance

everyone online?

1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm.

2. A robot must obey the orders given to it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law.

3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws.

The Internet is a scary place. That’s undeniable. Ever since its creation, humanity needs to exact a certain measure of caution while browsing. Navis are designed for just that purpose, to offer the sense of support and security that is nigh-required. In an age where a simple Mettaur can bring down the CIA’s firewalls, they act as the last line of defense against the plenipotentiary of viruses across the web, busting at their operator’s commands. Thus, peace is for the most part kept.

At the forefront of the Navi development wave is Imbrium City, located on America’s east coast. With a burgeoning technology sector, they are considered close to approaching the title of “The Eastern Silicon Valley.” New breakthroughs have been discovered there over the last few years, the most promising of which being Laplace Fields. If completed and successfully implemented, they would allow humans to interact with data directly at a physical level. However, because of the volatility of the technology and what it would imply, they’re now under strict lock and key.

Or... maybe not entirely so. A rogue Navi named Mirage has been appearing across the Imbrium area servers over the last few weeks, instigating unusually large breakouts of viruses. At first glance, there seems to be no ulterior motive to the locations of her attacks – they’re mainly quick affairs that nevertheless take a while to clean up. A bounty of sorts is out to bust Mirage, but is it possible that she may be on to something?

Regardless, you aren’t going to let these eruptions of viral activity continue unabated any longer. It’s time to take matters into your own hands, and in the process dive into a digital network of intrigue that could soon have the living world at its knees.

[spoiler=Rules and Info]1. No fancy passwords here or anything. I expect you to follow the rules of the RP section, including (of course) the Advanced Clause.

2. I also will be discriminatory with my acceptance of apps: if I don’t feel you’re up to snuff, you will be rejected. (That isn’t to say, though, that I won’t help you try to get accepted.)

3. However, this doesn’t mean you can go running slipshod all over canon. If I see you trying to work in things that don’t make any sense, you’ll be rejected.

4. Once the IC thread is up, you’re expected to post at least somewhat regularly if you aren’t absent in real life: failure to do so will result in me giving you the boot.

5. There will be violence, swearing, and all that fun stuff. I trust you will be mature enough, ne?

6. This RP will take place in the “real” modern day world, meaning there will be a North America, Europe, Asia, etc. No weird equivalents. Thus, you can put your Navi on an iPad/iPod. They’re more just like OS plugins.

7. Navis are often expies of Robot Masters or other characters from the other Megaman canons: therefore, if you’d like to make a character along those lines, go ahead. However, you aren’t MegaMan himself, so please don’t try to make him. You can also make an original Navi if you are so inclined.

8. You don’t need to physically jack in. Access to the Internet is now wireless, although the appearance is still that of the Battle Network.

9. Finally, nobody should as of now know about the Lagrange Fields. They are to be introduced at a later date.

[spoiler=Terms to Know]Navis – With the snowballing evolution of the network we call the Internet, things online soon grew too complicated and sometimes dangerous for humans to navigate on their own. To this end, Dr. Tadashi Hikari of Japan designed programs called Network Navigators, or “Navis,” to help interact with the literal online world. With the ability to deliver email, conduct phone calls and browse sites, among other things, a Navi is almost necessary. Not all Navis are good, though, for they can be used to hack electronic devices and steal valuable data. Although there are many generic models, people are increasingly customizing them to fit aspects of their lives.

Viruses – Cartoonish creatures that are the physical embodiment of computer bugs, viruses are only barely sentient and mainly exist to spawn more of themselves and cause havoc. They, along with malicious human activity, are the primary threat on the ‘Net. Navis engage them in a form of combat termed “virus busting” which can also be directed against other Navis.

Operators – The term for the user/owner of a Navi, an operator is responsible for directing their Navi throughout the Internet. However, not all Navis have operators: these “solo Navis” either were released into the Internet to fend for themselves or (very rarely) generated spontaneously by agglomerations of data.

Types – There are 11 types of chips, and therefore attacks, in this iteration of the Battle Network. (Barrier has been merged into Null, Crack has been merged into Break, Plus has been merged into Recovery, and Invis and Cursor have been combined into Stealth.) Each type of chip has different strengths and weaknesses, but they all should be balanced by a good operator. However, a Navi is almost always aligned along one of the types – this determines the chips they use the most and provides them with a tactical boost in that area.[spoiler=List of Types]Null – Non-elemental. No additional bonuses.

Status – Non-elemental. Can heal or provide status boosts, as well as inflict status conditions.

Obstacle – Non-elemental. Can create and manipulate obstacles to attack. (reserved for Hydra of Gentlemanliness until Feb 2)

Fire – Strong against Wood. Can burn targets and inflict long-term damage. (taken by Wraith)

Water – Strong against Fire. Can freeze targets and stop them momentarily.

Elec – Strong against Water. Can paralyze targets and slow them down.

Wood – Strong against Elec. Can confuse targets and prevent recoil. (reserved for Random Dude until Feb 3)

Wind – Strong against Stealth. Can shift obstacles and remove auras. (reserved for Shadow Zero until Feb 1)

Sword – Strong against Wind. Can inflict high amounts of melee damage. (reserved for Corona Ray until Feb 2)

Break – Strong against Sword. Can destroy obstacles and hit multiple times. (reserved for Rinne)

Stealth – Strong against Break. Can target well and turn invisible. (reserved for Admiral_Stalfos19 until Feb 3)

Basic Weapons – All Navi have some form of a sword and blaster for basic weaponry. Any additional attacks are up to the customization of the operator.

[spoiler=Locations]Imbrium City – A smallish city located on the east coast of America, Imbrium is famous for the vast number of windmills that dot the nearby shallow waters. These windmills provide cheap renewable energy, which has allowed a burgeoning technology industry to develop. There aren’t many skyscrapers in the city, which combined with the environmentally-minded planning makes it feel very green and natural.

[spoiler=Accepted Applications][spoiler=Alder Ward and DragoMan.exe (Wraith)]http://forum.yugiohc...ost__p__5785117

[spoiler={WIP} Ryan Fierson and Ballade.exe (Rinne)]OPERATOR: RYAN FIERSON

Name: Ryan Fierson

Gender: Male.

Age: Twenty-two.

Occupation: Technology consultant.

Appearance: Ryan is pretty average in build, with medium length brown hair framing a somewhat focused face with dark blue eyes. His skin is fair, and the only real musculature is in his legs and chest, which he’s developed from an intensive running program. A pair of birthmarks are on the back of his neck and shoulders, both rather irregular in shape, and he has an gash on his side he received from falling during a run that is currently bandaged up. However, these are his only main “disfigurements.”

Although he isn’t model-level attractive by any means, Ryan still takes time to make himself presentable. He wears a brown hooded jacket with cream inserts on the shoulders and chest, as well as a pair of skinny jeans and old sneakers that have seen better days. When it’s cold, this usually gets accompanied by a red scarf.

Personality: Cynical and suspicious, Ryan doesn’t come off as the friendliest person. Maybe it’s just because he hasn’t yet found his so-called true vocation in life, even though one would assume his job is almost perfect for him. Although he has an apparent talent for NetBattling, Ryan doesn’t exactly see himself as a “fighter” and thus only does it for fun, entering the occasional tournament if he’s in the mood and needs the extra cash. However, he doesn’t win too often, which doesn’t help the attitude problem much.

With a personality like that, one would assume that Ryan has more of a soft center. He in fact does, but it isn’t as overt as one would think. Being as habitually guarded as he’s been means that when he opens up, it’s more subtle. He reacts to acts of kindness slowly but with a certain deliberateness, as if he needs to consider what exactly will happen. Ryan is capable of being a caring person, but the main thing holding him back is that he tends to favor relationships when they’re handled indirectly, like through the Internet.

History:

  • Born to Mary-Ann and Dylan Fierson, both government employees working in tech departments. Was therefore exposed to Navis at an early age.
  • Attended college for a degree in literature and computer management: it was there that he first got into Navi customization.
  • Developed ___ as his first piece of work, despite the immense amount of bugginess that comes with being an amateur programmer.
  • Was hired by a tech firm working with surveillance, and used this hands-on experience to repair ___.
  • Grew disillusioned with the rote amounts of work he has been doing, though, and now is trying to search around for something else to do.

Motivation: Seeing as he deals with surveying the Internet on a daily basis, the recent outbreaks of viruses has eaten into Ryan’s personal time, so he’d like to try to put an end to it to reduce his workload.

Trivia: He has the habit of counting up to 8 under his breath when doing something particularly taxing.

Theme: DECO*27 –

NAVI: BALLADE.EXE

Name: Ballade.exe (derived from Ballade).

Appearance: Having the basic Navi structure, Ballade stands the average height and build for one of his model. His armor is primarily blue (a bit lighter than MegaMan’s) with gold accents around the ridges of the forearm gauntlets, boots and chestplate. Underneath that is the standard black bodysuit. His helmet is adorned with a pair of crescent-shaped horns which sweep back from above the brow, much like those of a gazelle. Ballade’s emblem are four circles arranged in a triangle, with three blue ones surrounding one in gold all on a black background. All in all, his design isn’t too complicated.

Personality: Ballade tends to be very direct and guileless in his interactions. He doesn’t beat around the bush when getting to problems and prefers to just keep smashing it until it works. This is reflective of his overall personality as well, because Ryan and he have rare moments of touchiness: Ryan prefers a subtler touch, while Ballade just goes for the throat. This doesn’t mean that he’s the type to search out trouble, though, and if it’s not worth his effort, Ballade will run for it. When talking to other Navis, however, he adopts a faint undercurrent of sarcasm reserved exclusively for digital beings. It’s not that he’s duplicitous or anything: he just has too much respect for Ryan to be snippy with him.

Type: Break.

[spoiler=Attacks]{Attack Name} (Sword) – {Write a description here.}

Combo Note (Break) – Surrounding his fists with dark-blue energy, Ballade dashes straight forward to intercept the nearest enemy. If he connects, he delivers a four-strike combo that breaks shields with each blow. Each individual punch does light damage.

Encore Cracker (Break) – A multi-blast explosive, this takes the form of a single circular bomb which Ballade throws that releases three smaller sub-units on impact. The sub-units bounce away from the original location before exploding themselves.

[spoiler={NPC} ??? and Mirage.exe]OPERATOR: UNKNOWN

NAVI: MIRAGE.EXE

Name: Mirage.exe.

Gender: Female.

Appearance: Designed after a geisha, Mirage’s theme colors are navy and a dark purple-black. She wears a heavy kimono in those colors with a simple flower pattern across the hem, tied in the middle with a yellow multilayered obi knotted prominently in back. This obi acts as her primary weapon. Like all Navi, her appearance is definitely artificial – in this case, although her limbs are mostly hidden by the kimono, the skin that one can see is stark white. This contrasts with her blue eyes and short black hair pulled into a chignon. Mirage’s Navi emblem takes the form of a butterfly, and is right above her cleavage.

Personality: She acts for the most part like a curious child, but with a definite malicious bend to it. However, when Mirage does bad things, if confronted she seems genuinely sorry, as if she’s just obeying orders. Knowing the nastiness behind her actions, though, insinuates that it could be little more than an act, especially because she sometimes goes far beyond what one would consider proper in directing a Navi.

Type: Null.

[spoiler=Attacks]Summoning (Null): Being a rogue Navi, Mirage has the ability to summon Viruses to do her bidding. This is her primary method of attack, as she rarely engages an opponent directly.

Teleportation (Null): A supplemental skill, Mirage can instantaneously teleport to anywhere within a short range of her current position. This makes it easy for her to dodge attacks.

Buster (Null): Mirage has a standard buster hidden under her right sleeve. It fires dark purple shots in a straight line.

Ribbon Slash (Sword): The obi tied around her middle unravels into six wide ribbons, which Mirage can manipulate like bladed whips.

Butterfly Bomb (Null): Mirage releases two indigo butterflies from her palm that flap slowly towards a target. They home and will explode forcefully upon contact.

[spoiler=RP Summary][spoiler=Arc 1 – Pareidolia]Soon to come.

(Also, even if you’re just passing through, help me decide which original character I should use as inspiration for my Navi – Ballade or Axl. Give your opinion, or else I won't look at your app. >;3)

Could I make a reserve for now? BN is a favorite of mine, so this seems like it'd be interesting enough. As for what character you should use for your Navi, even though I want to use Axl for my navi, he's still one of the most badass of the Megaman X series in my opinion, so use him. ;)

Ack. Gimme a sec. First of all, when I meant type, it was referring to check the listing of Navi types I had provided. Secondly, I want to keep the number of cameo Navis to a minimum, especially for major characters. This means I'd much rather people make their own original characters. If you'd like to make a canon reference Navi, post your human character first and I'll see if the quality merits anything further: however, once again, I'd much rather an original one.

(In short, everything currently requested is a no. Including myself: I'll have to reconsider my idea so I don't get special privileges too much.)

Just wondering, would there be a possibility to make a change in Navi type if, say I thought another type was more suitable and no one else had reserved it? I've got several self-created Navis on my comp, so I have an idea of what I might use for my Navi, but the type might be different from what I think it is.

I do believe that answered your question: read before you jump. However, I didn't answer your question about dark energy, which I don't believe will come up in the plot I've planned. So, no.

OK... now I'm a little envious <_<

Oh well, moving onto my app now.

OPERATOR: LEROY TRACER

Name: Leroy Tracer

Gender: Male

Age: 18

Occupation: College Drop-Out (he is working on getting an apprenticeship, however)

Appearance: Leroy has a medium build, and stands at an average height. His hair is dyed a blood red, cut to flat-top style and matted down, and although he has a black eye, one can tell by his good one that they are meant to be a golden orange. He wears a heavy blazer that he leaves open to show his bear chest, and a pair of jeans whose legs have been ripped from below the knees down. His shoes are just basic run-of-the-mill charcoal grey sneakers, which aren't really that flash.

Personality: At the moment, Leroy is going through what appears to be depression, except inside of feeling sorrow, he feels anger towards himself for what he's had to suffer through. Of course, he does a bunch of things that he's really not supposed to; ranging from only really eating junk food to smoking to getting himself drunk... he's even taken a few too many drugs in the past. All he has for company now is WraithMan, who was supposed to be sent for deletion, but managed to evade such a fate. Currently, Leroy is working on getting an apprenticeship which would allow him to eventually become a registered electrician, which is what he wanted in the first place... not to go to some stupid college like his parents forced him to. In truth, that's what's causing his current misery; the fact that he ever went there at all... not to mention that it never worked out in the end. All Leroy can think about now is how big a mistake it was, but he does try to put it behind him. After all, he has bigger concerns to worry about.

History:

  • Hates his parents for trying to force him into college, in which he had no intention of going to.
  • Got himself expelled on purpose, mainly so he could get away from college life. What Leroy did was, after his ex-girlfriend dumped him, posted a video of the two of them having sexual intercourse in the women's restroom on his FaceBook page, just to get back on her.
  • Was beaten up by that same person a few days later, while he was walking along the street. While that was happening, WraithMan had jacked himself into the girl's iPod, and cranked it up as loud as possible, resulting in the girl's hearing loss. WraithMan was later confiscated and sent to be deleted, and Leroy was thrown into junior hall for trying to intervene.
  • Caught up with WraithMan about halfway through his sentence, hearing his voice through a phone that was provided so inmates could make a phone call. WraithMan had obviously made it out alive, and returned to Leroy's side when he got out on bail.

Motivations: So WraithMan has the chance to fight Mirage, preferably one on one, and determine whether Mirage actually is the most powerful Navis in the world.

Theme: Disturbed –

NAVI: WRAITHMAN.EXE

Name: WraithMan.exe

Gender: Male

Appearance: WraithMan's body is of a blinding white, and appears to be made entirely out of ectoplasm, which looks as though its always evaporating. All he has for armour is a single, albeit heavy, onyx black breastplate which has a shining silver circular emblem in the centre. He has a single tail rather than a pair of legs, his arms appear similar to the tail, and all he has for a face is a single pair of eyes, the irises of which are dark purple and always have that look of pure venom to them.

Personality: A hunted and hated Navi who was supposed to be deleted when he was confiscated from Leroy, who got sent to junior hall for trying to intervene. WraithMan can be disobedient at times, and attempting to issue an order without some form of argument or debate is a tall order for Leroy. Apart from that though, the two of them don't seem to have problems working together; just as long as Leroy does his job as an operator and WraithMan does his job as a Navi. WraithMan has always wanted to fight Mirage, to see whether Mirage really was the most powerful Navi in the world. But as for the viruses being sent his way, or even the weaker enemy Navis, WraithMan's just doesn't view fighting them as any form of challenge.

Type: Stealth

[spoiler=Attacks]Shadow Force (Stealth) – WraithMan disappears from view for a few seconds. Then, a strange crest appears below the enemy's feet, again for a few seconds, before WraithMan soars up from it with tremendous energy. Deals medium-heavy damage, and is WraithMan's most powerful attack.

Ectoplasm Rapier (Sword) – One of WraithMan's arms transforms into a blade, which he then uses to slash his enemies. Deals medium-light damage.

Ghost Division (Stealth) – Dozens of WraithMan clones fill the battlegrounds. These clones are immobile, and are banished immediately when they're hit. WraithMan uses this technique for confusion purposes.
