Lana Del Rey

She's not a new singer, but she's getting a lot of recognition from her new upcoming album, Born To Die.

Her style of singing might not be a favorite for everyone, but she's actually pretty good and catchy. Her voice is rather soothing and she's definitely a classic beauty.

Take a listen.

Looking at Video Games, I can believe that she is shy and not attention-whoring like most other pop stars, but the video for Born to Die is ridiculous. I mean, sitting on a throne in a Wagnerian court surrounded by tigers? That's something Germanotta would do, not "shy retiring little Lana". She's also had her lips and nose done, quite clearly, and she poses naked in the Born to Die video. Then I found out that Video Games was made by herself before she was signed and Born to Die was made by her record company. Nothing special, nothing new, the industry has sucked everything out of her. Just like Rihanna, Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, she's taking her top off to make a living.

At least she can apply it with a certain level of class. You know, artistic nudes exist. Although I can doubt how much of the video is mainly publicity and industry, it isn't as bad as you make out.

Comparing Classical artistic styles to Pop Music is something I have never seen before, but those nudes were about the purity and simplicity of the human body. They were philosophical examinations of perfection, and represent Classicism profoundly. When Rihanna or Lana Del Rey take off their clothes in a music video, it isn't profound or philosophical. At least Katy Perry does it with some sense of irony and Post-Modernism. Lana Del Rey could have been the next Lucinda Williams, but instead she's following the banal route that everyone follows. No one escapes it, even musicians like Adele or Winehouse can't.

Well, yes, but I really don't think that she's purposely trying to do these typical industry stereotypes as a way to break into the industry. I hardly even notice these things, and she does do it on a pretty low level. Well, that's what I want to believe anyway, even though it's probably wrong.

I guess you're right though. C'est la vie.

To be honest with you, I feel like Lana Del Rey was always the type of woman comfortable enough to do nudes. I feel the same way about Lady Gaga, Rihanna, and Katy Perry. It's in their characters, probably both before and after industry.

If you hear some of Lana Del Rey's older music from her first album, you can still tell she's a showy, sexy woman. That's evident in her songs Mermaid Motel and Smarty, along with others. It was really no surprise for me to see her pose nude in the music video for Born To Die because I honestly feel like that's how she is. It's not that bad and as .Rai said, she does it with at least some class.

Also, about posing nude and keeping classy, there's so many examples of that in the past. I could bring up Marilyn Monroe for that case, so this is really nothing new. People have always been somewhat scandalous when the spotlight is on them.
