Let me put in my two cents about this.

[spoiler=First of all I want to discuss the campaign. CAUTION SPOILERS!]

Horrible... Simply horrible. Convoluted plot combined with too many characters to keep track of with a rushed character developement. What they should have done was introduce Yuri in MW2 then maybe MW2 would have been just a bit better. And about Soap, now I understand it was cool and all when we all realized he was a non-playable character but now its getting old. They should have just made him the player for all three imho. Captain Price had so much character developement in MW2 yet they blew that all to hell in MW3. Then they kill off Soap which was predictable and so was Kamarov's betrayal. What I hate the most was how they tried to pull Makarov off as the ring leader in all of this. WTF happened to Zekhaev? Al Asad? They were the originaks but Infinity Ward killed them off in MW and now we are stuck with a patriotic goon who coincidentally ends up being involved in the 1980's assassination attempt by Captain Price yet in MW3 looks like he hasn't aged a day. And what the hell is with the blood? Its all choppy and cartoonish and I could almost immediately tell it was fake. The whole thing was a disaster. Not only that but they barely made any move to expand the conflict with the militia. The weapons were the same aside from a few changes. AI was disastrously crappy as if they couldn't capitalize on what Black Ops did? Or are they just trying to be independent which honestly doesn't look like it is working. And what the hell was with killing Yuri off? You created a good *yet really far fetched* character who could of had so much coming but then you kill him off? It makes no sense. The cameos of MacMillan and Kamarov were unneeded and so was Yuri's flashback sequence which was also terrible.

[spoiler=Now onto multiplayer]

What the hell is with this "Pointstreaks" crap? Dividing killstreaks into three different methods only complicates the game more for new users although I am sure they can adapt its not like they are brainless. It is a pointless modification coupled with useless catches to get them. They are using points for too many things now to the point where it is getting overused. I must say in contrast the Hybrid Scopes were a very nice improvement that I liked on MW3's behalf. The way they did the Unlocks and Ranking's were terrible. Black Ops made a nice improvementwhen they decided to use a currency system along with unlocks and combining gambling into the mix which allowed for a more interactive gameply but MW3 did none of that. They just said f*ck it and decided to walk the lonely road instead of capitalizing off anothers success which is exactly what criticism towards World at War was based off of. And what is this Dog Tag match? Looks like someone saw a scene from Saving Private Ryan while drunk and decided to put it into the game.

It was because of MW2 that I decided I would not get their sequel and would instead stick to Treyarch's games. Their campaigns are consistent and their multiplayer is top notch imho.

MW1 was an interesting new direction, but still lacking. MW2 decided to be MW1 minus all of that old fun stuff. MW3 decided to be MW2-2. Nuff said.
