.Rai Posted December 29, 2011 Report Share Posted December 29, 2011 K-Pop is a really interesting genre that I was introduced to (and it's been hitting the western charts pretty high lately). Electric, club beats mixed with solid pop tunes. At first glance, you'd expect it to be pretty similar to western pop, but there's a certain something gained from being a girl group, and one singing in two languages too, that gives the genre its oomph. Tons of people probably don't even like pop, but, for pop, it is some of the most solid music I've heard. Also, the genre is home to the craziest modulations I've seen. Some of the criticisms to the genre is that most of the sound is rather...similar. There are a lot of groups who have got their original sound though. Mainly because of American & new club/electronic influences. CinnamonStar Posted December 29, 2011 Report Share Posted December 29, 2011 *sees title* Hooray! Are there other groups you like apart from SNSD and the Wonder Girls? Mmh I do find the genre similar to music we already know, those hardcore K-Pop fans who think it's totally different from Western Pop...are lying.xD That doesn't take away that it brought some new things though. Years ago, I thought I'd never like it, but most of the songs are so catchy. ._. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It's quite hard to find specific artists, simply because of no knowledge of the genre itself. Found about some random band called F(x). They have a pretty fun little electronic style. Personally, I think it's just inevitable that pop will sound similar to pop. Regardless of what it is. Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Akeno_Ederis_17 Posted December 30, 2011 Report Share Posted December 30, 2011 wow,even here Kpop..-.- at our class room, the topic is : whos better? beast or SJ? lol... but then my friend played a song on the piano,and i quickly liked it.. then when i asked whats the tittle she said its OASIS... by BEAST lol.. at first i tried to ignore it but then i searched for its lyrics,, i found out that its kinda touching.... so xD moments later i was playin it on my own keyboard... so far OASIS is the only KPOP song i really liked. there's just really one thing that i noticed between korean and western songs... the korean songs were songs that mean what it says and dont have another message for the listeners,, while western songs (most of them) are songs that are about Sex with clothes on (sorry bout the word) well thats what i think.... There are so many groups debuting every year that it's hard to keep on track, so I just pick some songs I like.:S I heard about f(x) and got their album ("bought it legally straight from South Korea of course" xD), but everything sounds too similar to me.;__;
wow,even here Kpop..-.- at our class room, the topic is : whos better? beast or SJ? lol... but then my friend played a song on the piano,and i quickly liked it.. then when i asked whats the tittle she said its OASIS... by BEAST lol.. at first i tried to ignore it but then i searched for its lyrics,, i found out that its kinda touching.... so xD moments later i was playin it on my own keyboard... so far OASIS is the only KPOP song i really liked. there's just really one thing that i noticed between korean and western songs... the korean songs were songs that mean what it says and dont have another message for the listeners,, while western songs (most of them) are songs that are about Sex with clothes on (sorry bout the word) well thats what i think....
I like your class. But you're right, while contemporary Western Pop ('m talking about mainstream/radio Pop here, of course genres are huge) has less of a stigma singing about sex and drugs and stuff, songs like that would never catch on in Korea. Different social customs. But I approve of your taste, BEAST is probably my favourite male group out of the lot. They do a lot of melodic songs and all the members can actually sing. Talking about sexiness and what Koreans don't seem to like, I'm just dropping my favourite K-Pop group here (my actual number 1 is 2NE1, but RaNia and 4minute are as close as it gets). The first song was a scandal in their country because of the sexual inuendos and the second one had a bit more success, but the group is still unpopular over there. Sucks because I think they do their job well.=/ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmeyLEI7ff8 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6-ZQiXy_iOs Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Yang Xiao-Long Posted January 4, 2012 Report Share Posted January 4, 2012 I remember when I went to Korea before my Junior year in high school. Got a list of K-Pop songs I liked the most and had them downloaded on to a CD. Now, I may have just gotten the CD this past summer....but you know, it was a refreshing surge of music. I also have the Super Junior album "Sorry Sorry." Favorite song from that album I have to say, is "너라고" And also "Reset." Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Akeno_Ederis_17 Posted January 5, 2012 Report Share Posted January 5, 2012 whats funny about kpop is that they have so many fan fics that are explicit (LOL) contradicting to the song they make, maybe thats the worst part of them being so beautiful/handsome xD Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
