ITT Welche suggests a new forum rule.

Recommended Posts

No Harassement.

This is for the betterment of everyone. If you disagree with a member you cannot say that they are idiots. Belittlement is the worst way to argue and should be avoided constantly. I don't see why this isn't a rule already but it should be.

Also, no rep abuse. YCMembers including me abused reps to get Shard like 20 reps in one day for no reason.

Having an opinion is fine indeed. But Shard always expressed his opinions as "the only truly right ones" and acted like a dick to ones that disagreed with him. However, I agree with the rest of the point.

Reps are pretty meaningless either way and mean nothing.

I post a legit suggestion and members call me idiots. I post a legit status members call me attentions whores. I promise if it had been a different member doing that none of that would have happened.

Well, it's all about reputation. People don't like you Welche. Remember how you behaved when you returned.

That is against the rules iirc, however the exception to the rule is when you call someone's behavior and not themselves idiotic. (In CC this applies as well but the exceptions are a bit more nitpicky. If... common).
Rule 6: No trolling

Like Spam, "trolling" has many defintions and comes in many forms. Posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response and disrupting normal, civil, on-topic discussion is just one definition of trolling on YCM. Essentially, if you are told by a moderator that you are trolling, you must cease that behaviour.

YCM is a place where nobody should feel harassed. Harrassing another member of YCM in any way, on or off the forum, will never be tolerated, no matter what you think that person did to "deserve" such treatment.
Apparently it was bunched under the "No Trolling" rule, even though everyone on YCM does it wrong and hasn't trolled since... well when WolfBerserker was active, and that was in 2009.

Thing is, Welche, what you're describing is NOT harassment. Insults and arguments happen constantly everywhere, and they're minor offenses. So minor and so frequent that it's impossible to enforce. Obviously, you're supposed to treat everyone respectfully, but cracking down on someone who calls someone else an idiot would take up way too much time without actually curbing the behavior.

Flaming is insults and arguments on a higher scale and it is much easier to label as a bad thing. You could show someone a post that's flaming and immediately know it crossed a line, or came very close to it. That's the type of thing we want to punish and enforce a rule on.

Harassment is a lot harder to label. It's situational. If you're calling "Harassment!" on people insulting you in minor ways when you say something less-than-brilliant, you're more likely to get a reaction like "It's the internet. People are jerks." And the insults, particularly if persistent enough to derail the topic, could become spam easily and be punished for that.

But if a person started PMing you or seeking out your posts almost specifically to insult, pick a fight, and annoy you, and it's blatant that they're having this type of reaction, THAT needs to be stopped.

Literally no one called you an idiot in that topic. The worst things said were "Welche, aren't you silly" and "It doesn't take a mod to tell that this is a stupid idea. Appareantly, even a retard can do it."

If you got PMs afterwards, report them. Or take a screenshot.

Quickly looking over your latest statuses, it doesn't appear anyone called you an attention whore in any of the comments of your statuses.

On a completely unrelated note, you've had a pretty long history of being an attention whore. Hell, you're attention whoring with this topic itself. The title doesn't need your username in it you know.
I promise if it had been a different member doing that none of that would have happened.
If any other member posted a legit suggestion, it wouldn't happen. Your suggestion was far from legit, and if you don't see how vandalizing other people's posts could be a problem, lol. I don't have back ups of my fics and would prefer they not be lost. Hell, if someone changed what the crap in my sig linked to (change it to transfer you to google or something), I'd probably not even realize it until much later down the road.

If you don't see why editing someone else's sigs, post, or statuses "just for fun" could lead to trouble, that's your own problem. And if you bring up Summer Crossroads or w/e the hell it's called, I'd like to remind you that there site doesn't get anywhere near as much traffic as YCM, or anywhere near as many members.

... Also, aren't there already rules against harassment? I believe it falls under trolling or flaming or whatever.
