Something tells me I'm going to complain that I should get a match win because Striker has become really inactive, and then at the last second he'll show up and duel me. Just like last round.

[spoiler=James vs Jesse feature]

Game One

Jesse Hall (Red W Mage) and James Nagro (Jamesfopresident) are at it in our round six feature match. After a few complications involving Jesse using an updated build of his Malefics, the match is replayed. Jesse wins RPS, his rock smashing James’s scissors into nothing and Jesse chooses to go first.

Terraforming searches for Geartown. A lone Spell or Trap finishes Jesse’s turn. James opens with a Pot of Duality and reveals Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness; Thunder King Rai-Oh, and Tour Guide From the Underworld. Gorz is added to his hand, since James already had a Rai-Oh and wouldn’t be able to use Tour Guide’s effect in the same turn as Duality. He Summons his Rai-Oh and 1900 of Jesse’s Life Points are struck into oblivion. A set card is placed behind the Rai-Oh.

Jesse begins his turn by activating his Geartown. On top of this, he sets a Field Spell face-down, destroying Geartown and triggering its effect. In response to this, James activates Maxx “C”, allowing him to draw a card when Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon is Summoned. Jesse’s Machine-type Dragon attacks Rai-Oh and brings James to 6900 LP. Jesse proceeds to flip up his face-down Necrovalley In the End Phase, James uses Mystical Space Typhoon on Jesse’s set Skill Drain.

James was prepared for Gadjiltron Dragon, and shows this by Special Summoning his Cyber Dragon and sending both Monsters to the Graveyard to get out Chimeratech Fortress Dragon with 2000 ATK. James follows up by Normal Summoning another Thunder King Rai-Oh and attacking with both Monsters. One set card finishes his turn.

Jesse, now at only 2200 LP, Normal Summons a Gravekeeper’s Commandant and attacks over Rai-Oh, hitting a Dimensional Prison. Disrupted, Jesse sets 2 cards face-down. James attacks with his monsters, but Jesse has the Mirror Force. With Rai-Oh off the board, James can use his Pot of Duality, and reveals Spirit Reaper, Solemn Warning, and Fiendish Chain. He decides to add the reaper, a card that is as strong in a Malefic matchup as it is in a Rabbit matchup.

Jesse Special Summons Malefic Stardust Dragon, choosing not to attack. “That backrow seems scary,” he says. Maybe Jesse should’ve worried about James’s hand, since James has Dark Hole and uses it. Spirit Reaper is Summoned and attacks directly. It doesn’t get its effect because Jesse responds to the attack with Skill Drain. Drain’s cost and Reaper’s attack go through all but 900 of Jesse’s precious Life Points.

It would seem nearly impossible for Jesse to recover, but he’s prepared with Malefic Stardust Dragon. Reaper defends 300 of James’s Life Points from the Dragon’s attack, but still loses 2200 of them. Skill Drain negates Reaper’s effect and it’s destroyed.

James passes with no plays. Jesse summons Thunder King Rai-Oh, again choosing not to attack. In James’s Draw Phase, he gets hit by Trap Dustshoot. His had was Gorz, the Emissary of Darkness; Tour Guide From the Underworld; Pot of Avarice; and Solemn Warning, until Jesse returned the Gorz. In the process, he got a cramp and began to scream. James sets cards in the shape of a ‘T’ and gives Jesse a chance to do something.

Jesse sets one card to his backrow before attacking with Rai-Oh over the set Tour Guide. Malefic Stardust gets rid of 2500 more LP. Again, James sets a Monster and a Spell or Trap. Jesse plays Pot of Duality and reveals Terraforming, Gravekeeper’s Commandant, and Malefic Cyber End Dragon.

At the sight of this, James admits defeat.

Game Two

James chooses to go first for game two, and does so with a Thunder King Rai-Oh. Jesse begins his turn with a set backrow and a face-up Geartown. The threat of a 3000 ATK monster could deter James from playing Heavy Storm.

James simply attacks with the Thunder King, but it gets banished by Jesse’s Dimensional Prison. James Summons a second Thunder King and sets a card of his own.

The set card is revealed to be Trap Dustshoot, and returns Gravekeeper’s Commandant, seeing as Jesse’s Dimensional Prison, Forbidden Lance, Pot of Duality, and Book of Moon were all not monsters.

The second Rai-Oh attacks directly, but hits another Dimensional Prison. James Summons Tour Guide From the Underworld in his Main Phase 2, grabbing Sangan and Xyzing for Leviair, the Sea Dragon. By detaching an Xyz Material, James gets back one of his Thunder Kings and stop Jesse’s Duality. With no more plays, James passes play back to Jesse.

Jesse uses Book of Moon on Thunder King, allowing him to Special Summon his Malefic Stardust Dragon and attack the Leviair, inflicting the first 700 damage of the game. A single Spell or Trap set ends Jesse’s turn.

Deciding to go off this turn, James plays Mystical Space Typhoon on Jesse’s set Forbidden Lance. Then he plays Smashing Ground to destroy the Malefic Stardust. James Summons a Spirit Reaper, flips up his Rai-Oh, and attacks for 2200 damage, also discarding a Pot of Duality.

Jesse, suddenly at a major disadvantage, is forced to Special Summon a Malefic Stardust Dragon, only to have its Summon negated by Rai-Oh. James puts his Reaper in Defense. Jesse sets a backrow. James does the same. Jesse Summons Thunder King Rai-Oh, the fifth Summon of this card in this game, but only the first one for Jesse. Choosing not to do anything else before passing, Jesse says, “Methinks backrow is dangerous.”

James sets a monster. Jesse sets another backrow. James Flip Summons Snowman Eater, hoping to get in there and get rid of the Rai-Oh, but Jesse flips up Skill Drain and drops to 4800 Life Points and save his Thunder King. The problem is that Snowman Eater is level 3, and allows James to Xyz into Number 30: Acid Golem. Skill Drain negates every single one of Acid Golem’s negative effects and puts James into a fairly good position. When Jesse doesn’t negate the Summon with Rai-Oh, it becomes fairly obvious that Jesse has an attack-negating card such as Dimensional Prison set. James passes to Jesse.

Jesse sets a backrow and passes. James’s Duality reveals Mirror Force, Book of Moon, and Chaos Trap Hole. Chaos Trap Hole joins James’s hand, ready to negate Jesse’s Summons. James sets a backrow, possibly the Chaos Trap Hole, and gives Jesse a turn. Jesse passes back to James. James attacks the Rai-Oh with Acid Golem, but runs into Mirror Force. James doesn’t care, though, because he had Monster Reborn and was prepared for it! Acid Golem comes back.

Jesse sets a Spell or Trap. James attacks over Thunder King. Jesse, now at 3700 Life Points, can only set another backrow. In James’s Draw Phase, Jesse plays Trap Dustshoot and tells me that his hand is Tour Guide, Dark Hole, and “some other s***.” Seeing this “other s***,” Jesse decides to test his luck in game three.

Game Three

Jesse goes first, doing so with two backrows. James Summons Thunder King Rai-Oh, and hits a Dimensional Prison. Could this be a repeat of last game? Jesse replaces his Prison with another set card, possibly even another Dimensional Prison. James Summons Tour Guide From the Underworld in the hopes of getting Leviair and bringing back the Rai-Oh, but Jesse flips up Skill Drain. Its cost, in combination with Tour Guide’s direct attack, drops Jesse to 6000 Life Points.

Jesse discards Gravekeeper’s Commandant, grabs Necrovalley, and activates it. With a Field Spell on board, Jesse can Summon Malefic Stardust Dragon and protect his Necrovalley. His Dragon wipes Tour Guide off of the board, along with 1500 of James’s Life Points.

James plays Dark Hole, followed by Pot of Duality. He reveals Reborn Tengu, Sangan, and Mirror Force. Mirror Force would deter Jesse from attacking, so he grabs it. A Thunder King Rai-Oh attacks, and gets hit by another Dimensional Prison. A backrow, probably Mirror Force, is set.

Jesse sets a Spell or Trap and ends. James Summons Reborn Tengu and attacks. In his second Main Phase, no longer afraid of Dimensional Prison, Mirror Force, or Bottomless Trap Hole on the Tengu, James plays Pot of Duality. From Bottomless Trap Hole, Reborn Tengu, and Cyber Dragon, James picks Bottomless Trap Hole, and sets it.

Jesse plays Terraforming to get Necrovalley and sets a Field Spell. Destroying this Field Spell, Jesse sets another. The first is revealed to be Geartown, and Jesse Summons Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragon. James responds with his Bottomless, but Jesse chains with Book of Moon. With Gadjiltron Dragon no longer face-up on the field, its ATK cannot be determined, and Bottomless resolves without an effect. Jesse’s set Necrovalley is flipped face-up before he passes.

James tributes his Tengu for Cyber Dragon and Special Summons another Tengu. Jesse plays Torrential Tribute, and James gets his third Tengu. A direct attack brings Jesse’s LP to 2600. One set card rounds off the turn.

Jesse merely sets a backrow. Tengu attacks directly again. Jesse, now on his last 900 Life Points, is forced to play Dark Hole. James protects his Tengu with Solemn Judgment.

Both players made an exciting match filled with Dimensional Prisons and Thunder Kings, and lots of skillful plays. James will be advancing to the Top 8, and Jesse, sadly, will not.
