Her mother gave her a Happiny when she was growing up, about at the age of 16, but Sylvia did not want the gift. So her mother took Happiny as her own, and Sylvia just asked for her mother's Chansey, which she used in the wild to catch a Chikorita, which she had raised ever since. It has become much stronger, and Sylvia went through Johto against the league. She lost in the Conference, but decided she did not like the experience much anyways.
