Stan Alda
I need OCG help; not big surprise. I'm working on monsters that, when attacked in face-up Attack position, calculate damage based on their DEF instead of ATK. I could've sworn I saw a monster or two that already did that, but if there isn't, what would the proper OCG be?
Merciless Overlord Knic
When this card is attacked in face-up Attack Position; Switch it to Defense Position during the Damage Step only.

The Battle Step is the stage during the Battle Phase from a monster declaring an attack up until the Damage Step. Play does not proceed to the Damage Step until both players confirm they do not wish to use any (more) cards or effects at this time. During the Damage Step, only effects that modify ATK/DEF, Counter Traps, or Quick Effects that negate cards can be used. Only one Chain opportunity is allowed during this step. After this chain opportunity is either resolved or passed, Damage Calculation occurs. This can be considered when an attack "connects". ATK/DEF is compared as appropriate, monsters are determined to be destroyed in battle, and Battle Damage is calculated and inflicted to the appropriate player(s). After Damage Calculation, BUT STILL IN THE DAMAGE STEP, Flip Effects and other effects occur at this time. After that, any monsters destroyed by battle are sent to the Graveyard and any appropriate Effects or cards activate. The Damage Step ends now. Rinse and repeat as necessary.
Thank you. The damage calculation portion of the Damage Step occurs roughly near the end of it, but not before it's ended. I quit playing YGO!, so I don't remember this stuff anymore. Ieyasu Tokugawa
If this face-up Attack Position card is attacked, its ATK becomes equal to its DEF during Damage Calculation only. Best I could come up with, keeps the idea at least.
I'm pretty sure that damage calculation comes directly after the Damage Step, since various cards can interrupt and cancel the Damage Step, thus never causing damage calculation (you or your opponent doesn't lose or gain life points).
If this card is attacked while it is in face-up Attack Position, this card's ATK becomes equal to its DEF during damage calculation only.
This should suffice for your OCG.

Spellcaster2000
I would say: If this face-up card is attacked by a monster your opponent controls, this card's ATK becomes equal to it's DEF during the damage step only. Just a tiny tweak on your grammar, I don't think 'this card' may be more appropriate than 'it's', im not sure though.
