Neg reps are a. not featured in the current system YCM uses which means YCMaker would need to put actual work into it and b. pointless and only serve as a way to minimod or get revenge against other members.

OMG, this stupid post again. Why do people keep asking for this. The only purpose neg reps served in the past was to encourage trolls to troll. Why on earth would you want to promote such behavior? People don't get over their agressive urge for attention by feeding their addiction. Name me one person those neg reps have helped.

No one contradicted themselves by saying we don't need them followed by we "do".

 

Neg reps aren't good for anything. They draw more attention to bad behavior than the behavior deserves, making it something to aim for in some people's sad devotion of attention, positive or negative. And really, revenge reps can come into the picture and upset more people. Someone does something, you neg them, and they/their friends neg you in retaliation.

Fix'd my post. Here's a tip, computer. When I hit the Delete button over a line of text, delete it.

 

And besides, trolls absolutely don't deserve attention, which is all that the neg rep gives them.

Not liking them is a stupid reason to give them a neg. That gets us into what we call "Neg Wars"

To Paraphrase, if there is neg reps then trolls and minimods will rule the forums and no one wants that but for some reason everyone keeps complaining and asking for them back.

Lol, negative reputations only serve as a way to express your dislike of another member. So let's say this 1 member gets a neg rep and then another and another, eventually he/she wants to leave YCM because they feel like they're not wanted. Strategically it's a decent way to keep members from leaving over stupid reasons which is what YCMaker wants.

In which case the member doesn't even know how to improve, and there's no proof of deliberate neg spam.

 

On the fence about this now tbh, as Darkplant said there are more important matters that should be dealt with first and even those are somewhat minor.

That's a terrible idea. It'd be so easy to bully someone by neg spamming them with impunity and for no clear reason.

 

Negs aren't needed. People wanted them removed, and when they disappeared, then people started asking for them back. There never was a practical purpose for neg reps.

It's a bullying tool. It keeps members "in line," maintaining "order" by striking down different opinions and beliefs. Without them, the bullies have no way of keeping others under their control, causing them to make threads like these whining for the neg button back.

 

It's all about power. People see that -1 on that post and follow suit, making the original negger feel superior. Without the safety of the neg button, they're scared.
