Every game has them. Some are good(Arcarna Heart) some are bad(Sonic) Some whine all the time(Guilty Gear) and some honestly are ignorant(Street Fighter) discuss fanbases in general.

You forgot to mention some are moronic, like everything you do. How's Sonic's fanbase bad? Explain.

All fanbases suck, because they all have the wackadoodles that complain =/

I found this to be racist, hilarious, and correct, all at the same time.

That pretty much sums up the topic...

You seriously need to ask? Off the top of my head, they appear to want:

No playable characters other than Sonic (nevermind that they praise Sonic 2, which has Tails playable).
Levels to not require skill (if they do, they claim it's bad level design)
Sega to ignore the existence of all Sonic games that they don't deem to be good (i.e. most of them, which was their main complaint about Generations)
Etc.

They're the poster boy for unpleasable fanbases.

"You didn't do EXACTLY what we wanted! we're going to whine for the next year until the next sonic game comes out!"
So essentially what most people do?
Just because 1 group of people is more prominent doesn't mean the entire group does it.
I could care less if sonic isn't the only character, I for one like Sonic Adventure (outside the easily noticeable plot holes that don't matter really)
People who say levels are bad game design don't deserve to play games.
Haven't played Generations yet so no comment.
And as Black pointed out, people complain at the most retarded stuff for EVERY game.

I have this weird habit of coming across Megaman fans who want the series to stay Megaman 2/ Megaman X, and claim Battle Network/Star Force aren't real Megaman games. Megaman fans are close-minded to innovation/change and want the same game over and over but will complain that Battle Network was the same game over and over. That's the issue I have with 9 and 10. We got sliding, wall-jumping, dashing, special armor, and charge shots, and then Capcom takes all that away and makes a stone-age game (that I want to play.) I don't hate 9 and 10, I hate the idea that taking a franchise that has evolved so much and putting huge limitations on it is lame. I give 9 a pass because it was meant to be a nostalgia trip, but 10 is just history repeating itself over and over with Megaman sequels just being the previous game repackaged with new levels and a couple new things.
I like every megaman game... does that mean I'm not part of the fanbase?

As a Megaman fan, I like Battle Network MOST, though I like Starforce 3 a lot, too. Probably as much as BN5.

I'm more of the old school megaman fan from before net navis. That's just me though, I just don't play the net navi versions (like it's that hard to not play something you like :/)
