The Story
So, do you think you now your town? There is more to it than meets the eye. Creatures of myth and legend hid their true nature form the modern world, living under the guise of normalcy. That crazy old lady down the road is a witch, the night clerk at the movie rental store is a vampire, that homeless guy in the park is a troll.
Magic and secrecy had been adequate to hide them from society, and having a few people in the right agencies enough to misled prying eyes. But now, science and modern technology is making hiding difficult. Forensic science can find the traces a vampire leaves on his victims, satellites imagery can spot unusual activity, and even ecologists are raising eyebrows at strange animals and wolf packs. In response, leaders of the supernatural communities have been making plans to come out to the public in the best possible light before the wrong people force them to.
That is the root of our problem. Not everyone wants to come out. They know enough to expect the discrimination and fear that will plague the populace, no matter how sugar coated the leaders make their existence. The like their quiet life the way it is. Others despise the new rules imposed on them and long for the days of old when they could kill as they wanted; when humans trembled in fear of their power and might. They want to return to the ways of the old days, they don't want to adapt.

Even worse, two radical groups have sprang up. From the vampires, someone is making a clan of ghouls; vampires with no more intelligence than animals, living only to hunt and drink blood, loyal to their creator; who does not take kindly to the new regime. From the weres, a pack calling themselves the bloodhounds who also resent the authority of the council has cropped up. And no one really knows what the witches are up to as The Triad never really had that much power over the covens.

Add to that the fact that a certain department of the government has agents out, keeping track of the supernaturals in the town and hunters still doubt the intentions of almost all supernaturals, the communities are in a tight spot. The Council, a group representing several supernatural species (something between the mafia and the UN) won't touch them either. So, the question is; which side are you on?

To make it standardized, there are a few guidelines pertaining to the species in the RP. I may add new races if members request them, have a good reason to have them in the US, and they aren't too over the top. But here are the basic races.

Weres- predominantly wolfs. There are a few werecats around, but they are generally either solitary or annoyingly curious. Other species exist too, but are either rare or regional (hyena's in parts of Africa, foxes in Japan and America, coyotes in America, dingoes in Australia, etc.) Weres are weak to silver. It inhibits their natural magic and enough can kill them. Weres generally get weaker in the presence of silver. Making weres requires an attack that leaves the victim near death. Were magic involves illusions, blanking out sound in an area, disinterest charms, stuff like that. Need to change every full moon. Weres have three forms: human, beast and a half form, though a half form takes skill to master. Changing forms takes about a minute and is painful. Weres can sense other weres change. Weres have sharper senses, even in human form, especially smell and hearing.

Vampires- blood suckers, weak to sunlight, yadda, yadda. Religious symbols only work if the wielder believes in the religion. So atheists are screwed when it comes to vampires. They do not need to kill their victims, but some think killing is part of the experience. Making a new vampire involves exchanging large quantities of blood and the maker will be down and out for a day or so. The maker and made share a link for a few years following a new vampire being made. Vampire saliva has healing properties to mortals, which comes on handy for those who don't kill their prey. By exchanging small quantities of blood, they can control humans for a short while. Vampires can be killed by staking (seriously, a chunk of wood through the heart kills around anything) and are best dealt with through beheading and burning. Or sunshine. Fun. Like Weres, vampires have a sharper sense of smell and hearing. But they don't need to breath. They only breath to smell things. They have no sense of taste for anything but blood and living flesh.

Witches- Black and White. Whites are weaker than their counterparts and focus on potions and rituals to cast spells, but are less like to go mental. Black use sacrifice and dealings with spirits. Witchcraft plays around with the mind, altering perception and the like. Often involves spirits. Often involves blood. Should I say more? They summon spirits to act as familiars that help in casting their spells.

Wizards and Mages- manipulate nature and the elements. Wizards use teleportation spells a lot. The distinction in mostly semantics.

Hunters/exorcist/slayer- or whatever you want to call it. Normally plain humans who think the supernatural are the spawn of the devil. Some work for the government.

Others- There are many supernatural species and I discuss It if/as it pops up.

Newport Butchery- One of the largest shops in the city. Supplier of pig blood if a vampire needs it. Also caters to wolves and their massive appetite. Witches get their gorier ingredients here too.

Mike's Buffet and Sport's Bar- One of the best all you can eat places in the city. A bit expensive, especially if you are a Were, but they turn a blind eye to those going back for sevenths. Owned by a family with a couple of wolves in it.

New, Half and Quarter Moon bars- three bars scattered around the city. Neutral ground for the supernatural. Backed by the Council.

After Dark- A club run by the vampires. Drunks make convenient midnight snacks, so...

Paws Veterinary- Caters to hurt weres, weres having issues and the newly changed.

Northside Preserve- a lovely forest often used by weres for running off Full moon fever.

Stained Pages- the Bookstore/coffee shop owned by Tyler.

Here are a few NPC characters. Feel free to suggest a few to add to the list.

Howard Brown- the portly owner of Newport Butchery. Though he’s on the upper end of his fifties, he’s an ex-hunter and can gut you with his butcher knife fast than you can say jack. Even vampires mind their manners around him.

Mike, Janet, Henry, Josephine and Troy Dale- the family of Mike's Buffet. Janet is Mike's wife and the rest are their children. Henry runs the bar, Troy the kitchen and Josephine is one of the waitresses.

Doc Turner- The human that heads Paws. Kind hearted but very firm, he has some skills in the medical magic arts as well as in casting wards and bindings.

Garret- A shady figure that acts as the council’s representative in the city. No one knows what he is, but he is always changing his look and personality.

Keith Matthews- Local police detective that is aware of the supernatural community and covers for minor offenses that are related to it, though he does not particularly like it. Frequently stops by both Stained Pages and After Dark; Tyler and [no character yet] being contacts for him. If he suspects something is up, he generally gives them a call.

Andrew Bryson- one of the news reporters in the city. Recently ran a scathing story on both After Dark and the Moon chain of bars. It is believed he has suspicions about the supernatural community and is under watch so he does not foil the attempt to come out carefully.

Lenard Anderson- one of the city health inspectors. For some reason, he always gets assigned to Stained Pages and to After Dark. Frequently notes to abundance of blood and animal hair at the two locations. He is strict and unbending and seems to have a grudge against the two establishments.

Dalia Paiton- the city mayor. Her assistant is part fae, but she herself is unaware of the more magical residents of her town.

Edric Lupin- a werewolf who descends from the original weres who have a tradition of turning their children when they come of age and thus, he is able to transform into a Dire Wolf. His family is the reason wolves have the taxonomical name Canis Lupus.

Name: Tyler Lake
Age: 24
Species/Race: Doesn't know his species name, but a kind of feline guardian beast (his mother calls them moon cats). He can shift to human form, but was born a feline, and still get's moon called like traditional weres. Most people know him as an exotic type werecat, and he runs with it.
Job: Stained Pages manager and owner
He is around 5'11 and slight of build. His hair is light blond-brown and cut casually with a few stray locks here and there, with a texture similar to fur. His eyes are a dark brown, almost black. He is of mixed African and Caucasian ethnicity, but favours the African side in terms of skin color. He has strange tattoo like birthmarks on body that look like a stripe pattern on his back and three stripes spiralling on his shoulder and thigh, around his arm then straight down his fore arms and sides of his shins. He still has a baby face and doesn't have any facial hair. He has an aura of likability around him that draws his customers. He is laid back and seems to be the slacker and always dresses casually, generally in cheap clothes.

Unlike most weres, his original form is the beast form, not the human. He is a large dark grey furred cat that resembles a cross between a tiger or lion and leopard and cheetah; being a bit greater than that of the first but with a build more like the latter two and a mane like the last. He has light grey stripes along his back and sides, and they trace down his legs in the same pattern as his birthmark; which happen to be the remnants of his original stripping that show even in human form. He has some scarring hidden under his pelt, as he does not heal as quickly or completely as weres.

Because his shifting is natural; one he grew through, he can temporarily holding a partial shift on parts of his body, though if he holds it for too long, it sways towards his half form. His have form is a good sized cat-man, standing about 6'5 with thick fur, long limps and large paws. He isn't hulking; with narrow shoulders and a narrow profile, but has powerful jaws and claws. In this form, he is extremely agile and coordinated, and has a better grasp of it than most weres, since it was his second natural form.
Personality: Friendly but firm. He is a bit lazy but enjoys having company. He is easy to talk to and serves as a shoulder to cry one in time of need. The type that likes to help people, he is still a bit mean with money and does not like loans. He isn't afraid to speak his mind and is rather chivalrous, something of a white knight and will not stand for cruelty to women. Mostly because he is a strong supporter of the belief that men should not strike women. Even if they are weres and can heal quickly. Despite his position in the community, he is uneasy around black witches, more to the point of a racial fear than bias, mostly in part due to stories his mother told of witches that would hunt his kind for spell ingredients as well as for food to increase their magic ability.
Tyler's father is human though his mother was a mythical (or more likely mystical) beast (she just called herself a moon cat) immigrated from somewhere in Africa. He is her biological son and was born a feline, something that really scared his father, though he was warned about it. He was slowly grew into his half form by the time he was ten and learned to shift to a full human by twelve. He was born when his parents were in their forties going fifty, though h never asked what took them so long, and they have both since retired. They live in a retirement cottage an hour and a half's drive away, and Tyler visits ever so often.

His father is still a human. Despite know both his wife and son will most likely outlive him, he does not want to undergo a Change, even though Tyler has offered to find a were to bite him (part of lesser known services of a Guide), as he believes he would not survive it. Because mental state is an important issue in surviving a change, Tyler isn't too willing to force the issue, and the knowledge than his father, now in his seventies, may die in a decade or so is an certainty neither he nor his mother like thinking about.

Tyler took over the store after high school, mostly because he didn't see himself doing anything else, and has been working there since. He is open to giving new weres a temporary job to help them get there bearings and earn some cash in an controlled environment. Because of his friendly nature, he is one of the supernaturals the High Alpha (who's authority he falls under as a shape-shifter) plans to reveal to the public at the start. He supports the decision to come out to the world and even hosts a fantasy club in his store on Thursdays to help prepare his regulars for the big reveal and dispel some of the more intimidating myths of the supernatural. While not a real were (though werehuman would be more accurate) he has a pretty high standing in the community, mostly due to his taking his mother place as a Guide; one who newly changed can go to for support. He does do pretty well at it, considering. Though he does have some unconventional methods.
Magics/equipment: he knows a few warding spells that he bought from a witch. A white witch.
Talent/Abilities: His ability is his shape shifting. He also heals rapidly under moonlight, and is resistant to wards. Silver still affects him, just not as much as traditional weres.

Name: Leon Crowley
Human: Tall, thin, and muscular. Has dark brown hair with a light brown patch in the front that reaches down to the base of his neck in the back, and to his nose in the front. Has dual-colored eyes, one yellow and one gray, and wears a pair of baggy pants, a pair of sneakers, and a black sleeveless hoodie with a striped shirt under it. Has a necklace with his wolf baby teeth tied into it, each tooth is between 2 and 3 inches long.

Beast: A bit below average, about 3 feet tall at the shoulder. His fur is dark brown, except for the light brown patch on his face, and the ear tips, tip of his tail, and paws being slightly darker.
Personality: Normally laid back, but has a slightly bestial side to him that prevents him from acquainting himself with normal humans. Has a predominant racial pride at being a werewolf, which many shun as a curse. Will anger easily when provoked and will not hesitate to beat a would-be aggressor into the pavement. Around others, he puts up a front of being fearless, even when facing complete terror. After transforming, is usually in control of himself, but the full moon often brings out his inner beast and he has little control over his mostly instinctive actions. What is known as "Full Moon Fever" by other weres. Though seemingly ignorant, he is very intelligent and is very resourceful when it comes to gathering information, having informants in seemingly every major establishment in the city, as well as Granny, who supplies many people with magical supplies. Major bookworm, spends more time reading the books at Stained Pages than actually working there.

Biography: When he was a child, he had to put up with quite a lot from his parents' constant arguing and his father beating him while drunk. At around 10, he became interested in the occult, and through his extensive research into supernatural phenomena, discovered the existence of monsters. He ran away from home at the age of 15 to try to become a werewolf, a race he deeply admired. He came across a pack of weres who transformed him into a were. Among them, he was said to have exceptional speed and agility, though not much physical strength and had a rare ability of being able to transform parts of himself separately. When he broke off from them, he eventually made his way to Newport and met Tyler, who showed him around town and offered him a part time job at his bookstore, where he has worked since, along with having obtained a volunteer job at Paws and another part time at Mike's.

Magics/equipment: No magic, has a ring that creates a bright flare whenever he says "Flash" that was given to him by Alexis Moon, an old witch that most people know as Granny.
Talent/Abilities: Expert tracker and even by were standards, is considered to be very fast, being able to keep up with or even outrun a vampire. Can jump long distances when running and can pounce a good distance from a crouched position. Can transform parts of his body separately (e.g. Werewolf arm), but can only hold it for a short time.

Name: Aramis Lodomir Kingston
Age: 94, physically stuck at 20
Species: Vampire
Job: Night Minister at Grace of the Lord Catholic Church

Appearance: Aramis is a tall man, approaching six foot five, with a rail-thin frame and a smooth sort of curve to his body that gives him sort of a feminine presence. He wears the curse of vampirism well; his pale complexion is smooth and graceful rather than sickly, and his red eyes provide an interesting contrast to his face and thin black hair, cut slightly long and worn stylishly off to one side. He has a rather formal air about him, as if he's someone who feels quite uncomfortable in anything that isn't a suit- which is, of course true. When possible, Aramis wears a traditional black dress suit, complete with a ruffled ascot and black bowtie instead of a modern necktie, and shiny black shoes.
Despite lacking any sort of color aside from his red irises (covered strategically by contacts for most of his interaction with polite company), Aramis has a sort of cheery air to him. Though he wears only a thin sort of smile, you can tell it's earnest- and that alone seems to make him quite a bit happier than the contrary.
Most notably, Aramis wears an iron crucifix around his neck labelled in latin with the phrase, 'the blood of the new and everlasting covenant'.
Personality: In stark contrast to his dreary clothing, Aramis is actually a rather excitable and enthusiastic individual. An actor at heart, he punctuates his sermons with emotional readings of holy text- his motto is that one must feel rather than simply hear. He is an excellent public speaker, the type of person that can seem likable even from just a few words, and a smooth enough talker that he could make anyone believe anything if he put his mind to it. Which he wouldn't, of course- as far as Vampires go, Aramis is a bleeding heart who takes the teachings of his religion quite seriously. His first and greatest tenant is that he will never kill another person- even the thought of doing so is revolting to him. He is very protective of people he sees as under his power, and though he is a self-proclaimed pacifist, he will not run from a fight to defend an innocent.
On the other hand, Aramis tends be a slight perfectionist and has a reasonable amount of OCD. He can find it difficult to let small distractions or annoyances go, and is easily flustered. His expectations of others when it comes to moral responsibility is even- he knows how people may be tempted- but he is rather brutal in his expectations of quality work. When he asks for something done, he wants it done properly, and he's likely to pull out his hair if he doesn't.

Biography: Aramis came from a highly religious family, but as a child, was known as both a troublemaker and a rebel. A self-proclaimed atheist in an age were such things were frowned upon, he endured the dislike of adults and other children alike and grew up rather alone, without really any goals for himself and only the barest minimal education. It was no surprise when he eventually ended up living on the streets, after having spurred his family for the last and final time- earning pennies doing quick jobs for people in the city, he eked out a bare existence until he was set upon by a vampire.
At first, he didn't realize why he was steadily weakening, white-faced in the morning when he woke up -barely getting enough food to stay alive, and constantly starving- but he caught sight of the pale-skinned monstrosity by pretending to be asleep when it crept up on him. Wild in terror, he ran from the creature as far as he could, with it in hot pursuit, until he reached the one place he knew could stand up against such a terrible entity: the nearby Church.
He broke in and it followed, threw Holy Water at it to no effect, and finally reached the final book and bell. Though at first the vampire seemed frightened, it was emboldened quickly when it saw Aramis' lack of confidence and set upon him- presumably to kill. Though Aramis' vision was fading as his blood was drained, he managed to grab a crucifix in one hand... and as he sat their dying, made his final penances so that his soul would go to Heaven.
The vampire realized something was wrong quite quickly, when the power of the holy artifact started burning him through the boy's blood. In desperation, he drew more blood, driven by a need to feed more than self-preservation- in one last ditch attempt, the vampire tried transforming the boy into a vampire himself, hoping to cut off the signal by transforming him into an undead abomination. Alas, it failed- and even as Aramis was embraced into the arms of undeath, his sire suckled on holy blood and was reduced to ash.
Since then, Aramis has worked as a wandering minister, making a spectacle of himself for holding sermon during the night. His masses are open to everyone, from the common human nighthawks to any supernatural that still has a taste for the divine- so long as they remember that his church is holy space. He allows no evil to trespass, especially murder, and keeps his chapels as a safe haven to all. When he needs to feed, he does so on those who come to confession- though he's always careful to take only a small amount, and replace a little of their blood with his own so he can overwrite their memories of the incident, as well as insert the idea they should reflect on their sins more.
As far as humans are concerned, Aramis is a likeable, though strangely eccentric nightowl preacher with a passion for God. As far as the supernaturals are concerned, he's a nutbar. Either way, Aramis hasn't let undeath stop him in anything he's done.

Magics/Equipment: Aramis lacks magic, though he does carry his iron crucifix, which has a subtle enchantment to it that helps him restrain his thirst for blood. It still functions as a regular crucifix of course, making it a potent weapon and deterrent against enemy vampires- Aramis is one of the few vampires still able to believe in religion.

Talents/Abilities: Aramis's primary ability is Vampiric Hypnotism, which functions almost unconsciously. By listening to him talk, watching him, and especially staring into his eyes, people begin to like him more- and not just a natural liking, but a strange sort of devotion. When Aramis focuses on it, he can essentially brainwash people around him, so long as they were on his side to begin with- this is, of course, an ability used sparingly as it removes a person's right to free will.
Secondly, Aramis has a strange relationship with water. Provided that the water is reasonably clean and there's enough of it to submerge the damaged part, he can use it to regenerate grievous wounds quickly, flush out poisons, or otherwise return organic material to its previous working state- an ability he calls 'Baptism', which can be used on himself or any other organic creature that has shared in his blood recently. Likewise, he is capable of both cleaning water over a period of time, and walking over it without difficulty.

Name: Racheal "Ray" Lorseni (Maiden name: Alenka)
Age: Appears 18, actually 164 1/2
Race/Species: Vampire
Job: Part time at After Dark

Personality: Racheal isn't your everydau girl, in fact she was actually born a human in 1847. Because of this she is very old fashion in the way she talks and behave. However, she tries to hide this and use the speech of the current time. Even so, she has a habit of slipping up whenever she is angry, upset or extremely excited. Racheal's view on life is rather bland. She lives with a pre-concieved notion that their is no good in the world and is always surprised when she meets someone of good intentions. Her oppinion will change of that person but not of the world as a whole. Racheal has a way with getting what she wants whether it be intentionally or by accident. It has to do with her voice, and because of that she tries not to speak too much in an attempt to seem as normal as possible. Sadly it never works out because she loves to talk to others. She is simply a naturally friendly person.

Unlike some vampires Racheal would rather keep what she is a secret. She also doesn't like the fact she has to drink human blood - actually blood period - but knows that in order to survive she has too. Racheal hates that she can't go out in the sun, and in order to by pass that she will walk around with a very dark umbrella. But even with that she can't stay out all day. Usually hours at a time before she has to go back in the shade to rest. Racheal actually likes the look, but unfortunately it was popular during her time and not so much in the present time. Not only that but it reminds her of Alezic Racheal would admit that she doesn't are much for the current time, however she does like the clothes as they are much more comfortable and less constricting.

Despite everything Racheal is a very simple person in terms of what she likes and enjoies as pass times. She is simple to get along with and while she tries not to talk - which usually never works - Racheal loves smiling, but never too open mouthed as her fangs may be noticed. Racheal isn't as energetic as one may think she is, but she does have her moments of over excitment and when that happens you can expect Racheal's clumsiness to come out, which she is otherwise very skilled at hiding.
Racheal was born in the mid 19th centuries, to a countryside couple. The main two things Racheal was taught were farming and how to behave like a civilized lady. If it wasn't doing one thing then she was doing the other. Racheal was very content with her life style. Racheal would have been happy staying in her humble little farming village for the rest of her life. Unfortunately, that life style just wasn't ment to be. Now, her town was frequently visited by merchents and other people to purchase crops and food so visiters weren't rare. However, when Racheal was 13 years old a strange man came to their town riding in a very expensive horse drawn carrage. To everyone in the small town stared because no one had ever seen it before. The man that exited the door to his carrage was sharply dressed, his blond hair combed back and his eyes blue. Beside him was an old man holding a dark umbrella over him. It was strange but not one asked why because they were put off by the rich man's sudden apperance.

The man looked at the people there before finally stopping on Racheal. Racheal watched in awe as the man walked over to her and her father, asking if there was a place he could buy some good food. Of course, Racheal's father brought him to their own crops, however along the way the man kept eyeing Racheal. The man remained polite to her dad but Racheal could see the disinterest in the man's face. Finally, the man told her father that he would return when the food had ripened a bit more. Before he left he smiled at Racheal one last time. Her father was confused but didn't ask anything when the strange man gave him money for his troubles.

When Racheal turned 18 the man returned, heading straight for Racheal's house. At that time her father had died so it was just her and her mother. When Racheal saw him she was shocked to find he hadn't aged a day, but no matter how she tried to explain her mother didn't listen to her. The man, who introduced himself as Alezic, eventually woo'ed Racheal but the more she thought about it the more it felt like an obsession or something. At the time Racheal was considered old and late for marrige, so her mother readily gave her blessing. So Racheal was married and taken away from her home. It was when she was taken to her new husband's home did he explain to her what he was. Racheal was shocked at first and it took her weeks to get used to it. Alezic wanted to change Racheal, saying that the moment he saw her as a child he fell in love but knew he would have to wait. He initially went to her town to wisk away some young woman for a snack, but it all changed when he saw her. He said he was waiting for her to get older so that he could preserve her unmarred beauty. Eventually Racheal agreed because she trully did love him.

They spent decades together happily. Alezic was kind, respectful and always allowed Racheal to have an oppinion and a say in what was going on. Racheal knew she was lucky, but it all changed 50 years before the present time. Alezic was killed by a group of priest who found out who he was. He managed to hold them off until Racheal got away, but Racheal had never seen him again after that. After what had happened she began to learn how to defend herself by mastering many different martial arts. It's not like she didn't have the time.
Magic/Equipment: None...Unless you could her dark umbrella...

Talent/Ability: She knows numerous martial arts, and knows how to use a few weapons as well. An ability of hers is the ability of suggestion. She likes to call it Charmspeaking. She doesn't persay control someone, but she has such a powerful influence with her simple suggestions that the person she is talking to will believe that it was their own idea. She tries to keep it under control, but sometimes she can't control it.

Name: Athia "Athos" Nayarthi Lotep
Age: 22
Species: Hunter
Job: 4th Year Philosophy Major student at the University of Innsmouth

Appearance: Athi is a short, lithe girl with very little mass to her name, standing a little about five feet with a rail-thin body and a distinctly impotent presence. Neither particularly attractive nor particularly unpleasing, she has an uncanny ability to disappear into a crowd and become impossible to pick out a lineup despite any defining features she may have- simply put, she's unremarkable and paid little to no notice by anyone else.

Her hair is a rather dull blond, let to grow a little past her shoulders and tied back into a ponytail with a single braid sticking out- the braid being tied with pure silver wire as heavily as possible, ending in a single bead that connects to a cross. Typically, she wears a pair of wire-rimmed glasses (also silver), which are notably not prescription- the insides refract light in a number of different ways, ensuring that she sees everything in some variation of a rainbow scheme.

Her eyes are naturally brownish-green, but are always covered by mirrored contact lenses that happen to come in a blue color. This can have the effect of her eyes appearing unnaturally disquieting, or "dead"- this can have the effect of people staring at them too long feeling uncomfortable.
When Athi is at school, she wears a regular pair of jeans, along with a shirt. Her outfit while hunting includes a long brown leather coat, outfitted with a ridiculous number of pockets and holding a metric ton of trinkets, over tight polyester clothing reinforced with leather across her chest, legs (especially calves), and hands. She wears a strange object around her neck, which resembles a leather choker covered with silver plates- as that's exactly what it is. Typically, she wears a large deerstalker cap to follow it all up- the cap has no real purpose aside from keeping her ears warm.

Personality: Athi is a dour realist, proponent of existentialist philosophy and noted athiest- she earned the nickname "Athos" early in her first year of university, combining her name with the greek word "pathos", a concept that her teachers knew she disliked and were having fun at her expense.

Athos is difficult to have a conversation with, as she always tends to believe that she's in the right. While perfectly willing to hear what you have to say, she's not very likely to take it seriously- and even less if you build your arguments on things like "morals" or "good and evil". Having attended higher education simply to understand those concepts, Athi expects you to present your stance on such things with nothing less than a fifteen-page essay on the subject with all arguments clearly addressed and underlined- or, in another way of saying it, doesn't care what you think if you don't have a PHD.

Athos is always in an odd state of disbelief. She can physically prove things like vampires exist, even if she knows for a fact they don't. Because of this, she is an absolute expert on things that she will simultaneously claim don't exist- and if she hunts them, it's because they're aberrations who really SHOULDN'T exist, not in a logical world. Above all, Athos wants the supernatural on a whole, dead. Dead and forgotten, because as far as she's concerned, its very existence threatens how the world is made up to begin with.

Biography: Athi had the misfortune of being rather disinclined to believing in the supernatural, while at the same time being drawn to it all the damned time. At age ten, she was briefly kidnapped by a coven of Black Witches, who intended to use her blood in a sacrifice until the city police came to their door and forced them to flee- she spent most of the next three years trying to rationalize that as a bad dream... until she found a vampire selling drugs to children in her class before sucking them dry of blood. This time she called the police- though an unfortunate communication error resulted in them believing they were hunting down a pedophile rather than an actual prince of the night. They found nothing, of course.

Perplexed by this even further, Athi tried her hardest to become a woman of science. She dabbled in physics and mechanics before she realized she was spending more time trying to rationalize her world view -difficult as it was, as ghosts had begun to annoy her at various times of the day and weres seemed to walk leisurely by her in the moonlight- than doing any actual work. Becoming a Philosophy Major was her way of trying to cope with keeping her head together at all times
.
At some point, she had rationalized that some sort of outbreak of gas in the city had started giving her repeated hallucinations (for the last 11 years of her life), so she took a vacation to the east cost where, she believed anyway, it'd be easier for her to forget that things like 'magic' existed. She never quite recalled exactly what transpired during that time, but she did notice she hasn't been able to eat a single fish since, and mollusk sea animals gave her the heebie-jeebies. A man's voice always echoed in her memories, however- his words weren't always distinct, but she could remember exactly what they meant.

This world didn't make sense. It was up to her to make it make sense.

With those phrases in mind, she left on a crusade to purge the world of crimes against nature. Bibles didn't work too well against vampires unfortunately, but a copy of The Theory of Evolution seemed to suffice fine. Weres of all sorts disliked silver, so she loaded up on that. Most things of the darkness seem to burn as easily as anything else, so fire became her weapon of choice. Within a couple years, she had become an expert on the supernatural- or, in her words, in "determining the logistics of things that are fundamentally illogical".

Equipment: Athos carries with her a large number of anti-Supernatural objects with her wherever she goes. In particular, her usual weapon is Darwin; her enhanced Crossbow, which carries bolts containing heads of powdered silver and naplam, exploding into gouts of flame on contact. The crossbow is automatic, and has two stings, allowing for a great deal of accuracy; it is made of Witchwood, chosen specifically so it would shrug off enemy charms and enchantments, and engraved with famous phrases of Friedrich Nietzche, which apparently is good enough for it to constitute a Holy Weapon as far as vampires are concerned. In a pinch, it can be reconfigured to shoot large chunks of sharp wood instead of bolts- though that's a somewhat more difficult ammunition to carry around.

She also carries with her a variety of pesticides, some capable of killing medium-sized animals rather quickly, and herbicides that work just as fast. A canister of paint allows her to wreck rune circles if necessary, and she carries a powerful torch lighter just in case. Always important, threaded through her coat are a variety of flashlight lenses that allow her to brighten up to a ridiculous extent with the push of a button- against the supernatural, being brightly lit up is usually a good thing.

Finally, Athos consumes a number of pills each night. Keeping her body saturated in iron is usually a good deterrent against creatures of the Fae, and the normal gamut of vitamins allow her to avoid being taken by surprise. Wolfsbane is poisonous, but taken in low dosages, can turn back the Were curse- or at least make a Were biting you regret it.

Abilities: Athos does not admit the Supernatural exists- even if her own tenacity isn't, what one would call "normal" either. After her trip to the east coast, Athos developed a number of abilities that were puzzling... though she tried not to think much about them, in any case.

Firstly, Athos became exceptionally durable, especially against injuries of a magical origin. Spells and curses tend to slide off her if given the chance, and even magical fire is far less effective than its scientific cousin- in part, this seems to be related to Athos' disbelief. Since she doesn't believe that spells should harm her, most of the time, they don't- unless they're really well placed. This applies not just to plain magical effects, but the special talents of any supernatural creature whatsoever- so long as it doesn't make logical sense, Athos can disbelieve it.

Secondly, Athos attained the ability to move to places without strictly knowing how she did so. Only vaguely an active ability, Athos found that when she needed to be places, more often then not, she got there- much quicker than should be physically possible. Eventually, Athos put it up to the same effect one sees in movies- where the main character believes they've outrun the monster, which then appears from a physically impossible position. Though her ability can't allow her to appear right next to an enemy at all times, sometimes its almost as helpful- shes never outrun, in any case.

Finally, Athos' last strange talent is the ability to go without food, drink or bodily function for any length of time while she's on a hunt. What she usually attributes to obsession is really more of a supernatural ability- simply, while she's on a hunt, her body doesn't need anything at all.
Name: Alexander Thylus
Age: 17
Species/Race: Were (Thylacine)
Job: High School Student/Intern at Paws

Appearance:
Alexander has shaggy light brown hair that reaches to the nape of his neck in the back and to his eyebrows in the front, and his eyes are brown with flecks of gold in them. He stands at a little over six feet tall and weighs about 170 pounds. He has a slight amount of musculature, but it is not too terribly noticeable. He often wears sweatshirts and jeans, even in the summer, as he gets very gold often. He also wears glasses with thin metal frames, but they aren't actually prescription lenses, and he only wears them to conceal the fact that his eyesight has improved from his parents, and because a girl once told him he looked handsome with them on. All in all, he is said by his classmates to be "Basically the step above mildly attractive".

Alexander takes the form of a larger-than-average thylacine (6'9" from nose to tip of tail) with dark brown fur covering most of his body, the exceptions being the black stripes on his rump and his cream-colored belly. His eyes are no longer brown, but totally yellow. One can notice that there is a long slash mark on his back left thigh where there is no hair growing—This is where he received the injury that turned him into a were-beast. He has slightly longer hair than the average thylacine does as well, and there is a particularly thick scruff of fur around his neck and at the point where his neck joins with his back.
NOTE: Alexander is and always will be unable to perform the traditional half transformation. Instead, he is limited to transforming one area of his body to that of a hybrid or full form. This is due to the nature of the creature that attacked him originally.

Personality: Alexander is very kind and caring, and he is always willing to lend a helping hand to those who need it. He is, however, very shy, and while eager to make new friends, he is afraid of approaching people for fear of rejection. His biggest fear is opening up to someone, only for that person to hurt him later on. He gets very nervous when put under pressure or forced to perform a task by girl/woman or under a female's supervision.

Biography: Alexander was born in Adelaide, South Australia. He spent most of his time at the Adelaide Zoo, as he has always felt a very special connection with animals. When Alexander was 14, while he was at the zoo, he noticed an animal outside of its enclosure, and went to investigate. When he got closer, he realized it was an animal he had never seen before—It looked like some strange cross between a tiger, a dingo, and a kangaroo. He approached tentatively, and the creature turned to face him. The animal leapt at him and slashed his leg with its jaws before running away. When his parents found him, he was lying on the ground, bleeding and unconscious. He was taken to the hospital, and he described what attacked him. The doctors were puzzled, as what he had described was a thylacine, a carnivorous marsupial that had been extinct since the 1930's, the last known specimen of which dying at the Beaumaris Zoo. Alexander was sent home a week later. When Alexander was fifteen, he discovered his ability to change into the form of a thylacine, and he used this newfound ability to study the species in its entirety, giving him unprecedented knowledge on the extinct creature. One day, his father was given a promotion, but was forced to move overseas, and so his family moved to Newport, where they live now.
If you are confused about how a supposedly extinct animal attacked him, realize that this IS an RP about magic, so let us just say it was reanimated somehow. Also, his last name IS Thylus, and that is pretty close to Thylacine, so let us also say that has some bearing on it as well
.
Talent/Abilities: As a Were-Thylacine, he can open his jaw far beyond that of most animals (up to 120 degrees), even in his human form. He also has strength beyond what his appearance lets on, allowing him to surprise many people with the fact he can perform many physically demanding tasks without tiring. He also has a gift when it comes to understanding the thoughts and feelings of animals.
Name: Dorian Lupin
Age: 170 (Stopped aging at 26)
Species/Race: Human
Job: Alchemist

Appearance: Dorian is about 5'11, and has a light complexion with wavy black hair that extends to the base of his neck and a goatee. He has an athletic physique, reflecting his years as a martial arts practitioner. He regularly wears a gray or black suit with a white button-up shirt and an occasional ascot (ruffled or otherwise) and carries his cane sword at all times, only leaving it when he is at home. Has an assortment of hats, but rarely wears them.
Personality: Can immediately come off as arrogant and his regular use of sarcasm tends to annoy others. But that is only his exterior. Once someone takes the time to get past all the sarcasm and quips, they find a more compassionate and kind side, though he is still predominantly a jerk. He is extremely intelligent and though he does let this show, he is usually too lazy to actually put his intelligence to use in fields other than alchemy and occasionally chess, usually just telling Arsene what to do.

Biography: An ancestor of Edric Lupin, but not one of the eldest sons of the family, therefore not the heir to the Dire Wolf blood that his ancestors carried. He however cared not for being the heir to the Lupin family, and chose to devote his life to something other than serving his older brother, as the other younger siblings had done before him, and decided to become a fencer, but he quickly excelled in it and he grew bored of always winning. He decided to devote himself to the ancient art of Alchemy. He studied in the works of the legendary alchemists Plato, Aristotle, Hermes Trismegistus, Nicolas Flamel, and many others, and through his research and experimentation, he discovered that science would not lead to transmutations. There had to be magic involved in this art. He chose to explore this. Several years later, he created the fabled Magnum Opus, which yielded not the Philosopher's Stone, but a thick red liquid in his vial. He took the vial, to examine the contents, but it was burning hot to the touch and he dropped it, shattering the glass. The red liquid which was now scattered everywhere, quickly pulled itself together and created a strange indescribable form, eventually turning into a small sphere. He picked it up and examined it. This was it. This was what all alchemists had wished to achieve through their research. This was the Philosopher's Stone. While he continued practicing alchemy, he decided to take another step, this time into previously feared waters of alchemy, homunculi. A decade passed and he had still not been able to successfully create a homunculus, but he noticed that he looked the same as he did ten years ago. He thought it as an impossibility, surely he must have aged. He remembered in one of his texts that the Philosopher's Stone was also called the Elixir of Life. He had unknowingly given himself immortality and eternal youth. For a half century, he continued trying to create a homunculus and succeeded. The homunculus however was not pleased. It began screaming as if in pain, then ran in random directions and escaped. 3 days later, there had been rumors of a nude psychopath running around slaughtering innocents. He knew this was his homunculus, and it was therefore his duty to stop it. He searched for and killed the homunculus, which then turned back into the base materials he had used to create it. With knowledge of his failure in giving it a mind, he attempted to create another homunculus, this time succeeding in about a year, in creating one capable of thought. This homunculus he kept as a servant and named him Arsene after one of his favorite literary characters, and he has served him since, also lacking the ability to age or die of natural causes. They traveled the world for about 50 years, learning other forms of magic, alchemy, and several martial arts styles Dorian became a member of the Council, a position which has used his skills in alchemy extensively, most notably to create gold. He was recently sent to Newport to keep an eye on the city awaiting the public reveal of magic communities.

Magics/equipment: Skilled alchemist, capable of advanced magic and near godlike transmutations with the aid of his Philosopher's Stone, which is embedded the hilt of his sword which is concealed in a cane.
Talent/Abilities: Can generate quick, but efficient transmutations and can change the molecular composition of objects, turning them into other forms of matter (vaporizing solid objects, freezing moisture in the air, etc.). Has studied martial arts for about 50 years and knows many advanced techniques in several different arts as well as being a fencing prodigy when he was younger, leading to his habit of carrying a cane with a concealed sword in it. Arsene follows his every command and is an able fighter and alchemist himself, though he has a habit of taking orders literally, a habit Dorian is trying to get him out of.

Can jump long distances when running and can pounce a good distance from a crouched position. Can transform parts of his body separately (e.g. Werewolf arm), but can only hold it for a short time.

Me totally wats a reserve! I will try to have my app done tomorrow if not tonight

I have a quick questions about the vampires. Do they just outfight die when they go out in the sun? Or is it like an amount of sunlight they can expose themselves to before they need to get out of the sun? Or can they go out in the sun it's just that they are weak or something?

It still functions as a regular crucifix of course, making it a potent weapon and deterant against enemy vampires- Aramis is one of the few vampires still able to believe in religion.
I'll drop two more applications later.

@Fail- They can only take a few seconds of direct sunlight before they burst into flames, and are generally a bit weaker in the daytime. The older and stronger vamps can last longer. Older in terms of centuries, and strength is generally defined by brood size, since most vampires cannot maintain the hold on their Made more more than a year anyway. (On that note, vamps have two groupings; brood is the catch all term for a Maker and his/her children [sometimes grandchildren if they are strong.] A clan for the more organizational grouping.) Some of the Old Ones are rumored to be able to walk under full sunshine with no problem. Those guys are old enough to not even care about the Council and the world in general.

@Hydra- A clergy vamp. How blasphemous! Scandalous! I love it! Accepted! Adding to the list.

@Simdoggy- Reserved

@Chii- Normally, I would say 'sorry, but no demons. Why would one care what the earth is up to anyway?' But I'll decide after seeing the app. After all, Hydra made a Catholic vampire priest immune to holy symbols work out with his bio.

In other news my app is up.

200 is our age cap. Vamps are territorial. Older vamps exist, but have stable power structures established in the old world (Europe, Russian, etc.) The ones in the Americas haven't reached that level of control or age yet. Plus, for species like vampires and weres (wolves in particular), most don't see past their first decade due to fighting, hunters, power struggles, suicide, etc.

And by 'older and stronger vamps can last longer', I mean like the minute or two it takes to get out of the sun. Injures inflicted by holy symbols and sun take a while to heal.

Dispite everything Racheal is a very simple person in terms of what she likes and enjoies as pass times.

Your grammar displeases me. I say accepted though. Also I have a suggestion for an NPC; Edric Lupin, a werewolf who descends from the original weres who have a tradition of turning their children when they come of age and thus, he is able to transform into a Dire Wolf. His family is the reason wolves have the taxonomical name Canis Lupus.

Aramis isn't necessarily immune to all Holy Symbols. Presumably Catholic iconography would do jack against someone who likely believes in it more than the user does, but symbols of a totally different faith would probably work fairly well.

Becoming a Philosophy Major was her way of trying to cope with keeping her head together at all times.

Brownie point to anyone who gets the subtle references woven in there.

Athia is accepted Hydra. And sorry, I'm rarely any good with subtle references :(

Hey Dwarven. Long time no read. Sorry, but I'm hesitant to accept demons and angels, even halves. Chii already reserved as one, and I'm limiting it to one. You're free to work for the government's men in black.

I'll work with practical creatures. Gods, demons, sacred stuff like that is out. More common mythic creatures are allowed, though you have to consider the region and such. eg. vamps have a age cap because the older ones still live in europe. Native american mythology is a good place to look. Or you could go a common witch/warlock/were/vamp
