The Color Purple

Brushfire

Massive thumbs down for me, I really can't stand this book. I'm retaking AS English so I have to read and write coursework about this again! As a white male I don't think this book has much sympathy for me... and it's so frustrating to have to write about women coming together against men, and how much men suck, this book from a feminist viewpoint, etc.

Well true, but considering Celie directly refutes religion at one stage in the book, this wouldn't really work. I can't see Jesus having the opinion, "what did God ever do for me except give me a Pa that raped me, took my children away, took my Nettie away" etc. etc.

Then it's obviously a satire on the traditional approach.

But then we take into account that in the first half of the novel, every entry is started with "Dear God". Considering God /is/ Jesus, it would be rather strange for him to write and confide in himself, no? Then again, could be satirical as you said. I suppose you can always figure out a way to make something out of nothing in literature.

The movie is amazing. I haven't read the book.

You're breaking my heart here, man. That movie is the definition of asdfghk. It isn't entertaining, inspiring nor emotionally gripping. Is that because I'm white and male? Maybe. We even had to analyse part of it in media, as apparently it has conventions of a Thriller. It really doesn't. The only thing thrilling about that movie was the time when it ended and I knew I wouldn't have to endure any more of it.

Then again, Steven Spielberg has a tendency not to live up to my expectations. I mean that train crash in Super 8. You know, the most unrealistic train crash known to man.
REALLY. T_T The TRAIN CRASH is all you talk about when you think of Super 8. Super 8 was one of the best films of the year, even if the train crash didn't compare with whatever you believe a train crash should look like.

The movie was great. It would have been great even if there weren't aliens in it.

As for the Color Purple. The scene where she leaves her husband was one of the most emotional scenes I've ever seen.
