Their classes had just gotten out, and Kai was pondering over a black card. It was a card like any other, but for some reason, only Kai and Kenta could read the card's text. It appeared to be some ancient runic language, from Kai's perspective, yet he could read it like any other language he knew. He read the name in his two native tongues. "Number 17, Leviathan Dragon... Nanbasu Jyu-Nana, Rebaiso Doragon... What secrets do you hold, my friend?" Kai muttered. He looked up from the card to watch where he was walking, though he was still deep in thought. "...And Kenta has Number 61, Nanbasu Roku-Jyu-Ichi... Meaning there's at least 59 other cards in this set, possibly more." his mind continued its train of thought. He slipped out another card, this one being significantly less dark, and actually written in english. "Galaxy-Eyes, my ace, is meant to combat Xyz, Exceed, monsters. Perhaps there's some connection with these Numbers, and my dragon." Kai turned his head to glance at Kenta, making sure he was keeping up.
evilfusion
Natalie stepped out of the classroom, her bookbag slung over her arm as she walked, lost in her own thoughts as usual. She spared no one that acknowledged her with more than a passing glance, even as some congratulated her on her latest acheivement in class. Sure, she enjoyed the top marks she could gain, but they weren't born from natural talent, just hard work. Anyone could accomplish that. No, she preferred a setting where she could ascertain her superiority over anyone else, and she had just the way to do it. Unfortunately, she was not especially far with her progress at this time, and she was out of leads. She picked up her pace, eager to leave the school grounds, but as she passed a pair of other students, her eyes flicked over their faces. Those two...newer students if she remembered correctly, and twins to boot. She hadn't really gotten to know them yet, and had no intention of doing so, but she usually recognized where student duelists stood on the ladder dictating schoolyard dominance, and now that she thought of it, she had never seen either of them duel. But it wasn't them personally that got her attention. It was the card in the leader's hand. Her eyes bulged very slightly. Black with yellow stars, 3 to be precise, and an image of a dragon in the center. The writing...the card text was written in a strange format that could not possibly be English. Only certain cards to her experience had ever been written in such a text. The mere glimpse of the card was nearly enough to make her salivate. She passed him, resisting every urge to shove him against a wall and demand a duel. No, this should be handled delicately, lest someone suspect foul play of her. Once safely past, she stepped more into his path, and then turned around to face him. This way, she was much more difficult to ignore, and her specific intentions a mystery. "Ahem," she cleared her throat to draw his attention, her eyes never leaving the card in his hand. "It occurred to me that I've never had the 'pleasure' of a Duel with you. Actually, it's also coming to my attention I have never formally introduced myself, either." She gave a mildly sarcastic bow of her head and extended a hand, resisting the urge to try to snatch the card from the hand. "I am Natalie." Agro
"Wow. You know, I've never seen you so formal about it, Natalie." Souta, grinning, walked up from the hallway where he'd exited class after following his classmate, Natalie, who had almost cornered a student Souta didn't recognize. "I would've thought you'd have pinned him up against a wall by now." Natalie had been one of Souta's biggest rivals since they had begun schooling years ago, so he made it a point to find out who she was dueling. Though, more recently, he'd taken a less aggressive approach to the rivalry, joking more often and enjoying himself. That was probably the only reason he was approaching her now, as she was attempting to challenge a freshman. "You're not really going to challenge a new kid, are you Nat?" Souta closed his eyes as he laughed, "I didn't know you went for easy wins anymore." Souta opened his eyes cheerfully. The words were meant in jest, but he was never quite sure how Natalie took them. Dementuo
Kai gave a student in front of him a long stare. He slid his Numbers back into his Extra Deck pocket on the Duel Dism attatched to his arm, and nodded. "Kai's my name, and if you want a duel, then sure. I don't mind." he said. "I don't think we'll get in anyone's way here, so why not here?" He said, taking some steps back to provide a proper field space. He pulled out his D-Gazer, and fixed it to his head. A computerized voice repeated "AR Vision, Link Acquired" in his ear. The area around them was enshrouded in a green glow, though it only appeared to alter the color of the surrouding buildings. "You know, I haven't seen you around." Kai began, his deck auto-shuffling. He picked up his opening hand, giving it a small smirk. "Let's get started, then. First, I'll play the spell card Polymerization. I'll fuse a Photon Lizard and Photon Crusher in my hand, letting me Fusion Summon Photon Breaker." He listed off, snapping the cards into place. (Photon Breaker's ATK: 2300). "After that, I'll put two cards face-down, and end my turn." Zextra
Kenta shook his head as he watched Kai start the duel. "Kai... we're going to miss the subway if you keep this up, so try not to take too long" he muttered in a slightly irked tone as he backed up from the duel. "But since this has already started, there's nothing else to do" he thought before releasing a latch on his duel disk carrier - he ejected the duel disk...or rather the duel disk-computer hybrid that everyone owned: a small blue device with a screen taking up the entire front side. He flicked it into the air as it expanded into its larger form. Kenta touched several keys before a webpage opened up. "thirty-five minutes..." he thought. Agro
Souta sighed as he watched the proceedings, not taking too much away from Natalie not responding to him. Noticing the newbie's obviously twin brother standing off awkwardly to the side, he walked over to talk to him. Souta smiled, he'd need someone to talk to for the next, what'd he hear him say, 30 minutes? Souta checked his watch just as he reached him. He had enough time to watch this one duel. "Hi," Souta lent out a hand. "I'm Ueda Soutaki, but everyone just calls me Souta. You're new here, right? Where're you from?"
Zextra
As he was greeted, Kenta turned and looked up at the stranger. "Souta..." he repeated to himself before holding out his hand in return. "Hello, my name is Kenta" he replied. "And to answer your question, yes, my brother and I just moved here from Neo Domino City" he stated before glancing back down at the screen. "hmm...thirty-three minutes, twenty-seven seconds..." he thought briefly before he turned back to Souta. "Anyways, may I help you with something?" he asked, not intending to sound rude as he put the duel disk to his side.
DeckShuffler711
Walking towards the bus stop, Setsuna smirked as he put his ponytail through the loop in the back of his baseball cap. Stopping as he walked, he set his backpack down and opened it up. Staring at the contents of it, he looked at a nearby convenience store. Nodding, he rushed in, taking his vest off as he ran inside. It was time for a very appropriate costume change for him! Coming out of the convenience store, he grinned as he adjusted his cap. Looking at the Duel Disk on side of his arm and the Deck that was ready to go, he patted it. It had been only a few weeks since he had gotten hold of his father's deck and he was enjoying it far too much for his own good. He had already won four duels against local Duelists. Each time, he had gained quite a bit of experience when it came to how his father's deck had ran back in the day. It spammed the special summoning of Mech monsters out of the wazoo, but it seemed to lack a lot of the newer Mechs that had been coming out. Walking aimlessly, he stopped and looked over at a duel between an unfamiliar gent and a certain girl who was praised as the best at everything. Putting his D-Gazer on, his eyes narrowed as the electronic voice echoed into his ear. Watching as the duel was shown completely, he was tempted to walk away, but something about the duel seemed far too interesting. Standing at a distance, he glanced at his deck box for a moment. Reaching for it, he quickly opened it up and pulled his extra deck out. Staring at the current five cards in his Extra Deck, he stared at Combat Mech, Mech Overlord, Assault Mech, Jet Dragon and his only Xyz monster, Number 07: Phoenix Dragon. Putting his Extra Deck away, he walked a bit closer to the dueling site. The boy was using an unfamiliar archetype to him, but from what he could see, it was primarily a light based deck. Little miss perfect was famous for running a Water Xyz Deck, but he had never really seen it before. Somehow, knowing he records in everything else, he knew she was an amazing duelist. The boy she was dueling was likely to receive a run for his money. "I wonder how this will turn out," He mumbled as he stood up and began to walk away, a single card falling out of his deck as he walked off.
Loyal A.I. Wind/Level 1 Psychic/Effect ATK: 100/DEF: 100 During either player's Damage Step, when a face-up "Mech" monster you control battles, you can send this card from your hand to the Graveyard to reduce the opponents monster's ATK to 0, until the End Phase. evilfusion
The only response Natalie gave Souta was a swift glare, not one of true distaste, but enough to give off a mildly irritated vibe. It wasn't really the win record she wanted, it was the card the boy carried, but there was no point in discussing that. She hadn't told anyone else about the Numbers. If word got out that she was collecting them, it would be much harder to find clues regarding them. She rummaged into her bag and strapped on her Disk as her opponent, now identified as Kai, did the same. With a casual air, she placed her red-tinted Gazer over her left eye, connecting to the opponent. "Photon Breaker," she repeated softly. A Fusion Summon; how unusual. To play such a monster in the first turn... "Then it's my turn," she said, just as softly, and extracted a card from the top of her deck and glancing sideways at it. His monster has 2300 ATK...most of my monsters have less than that. But no matter... "I Summon Deep Sea Diva," she stated, placing the card onto her Disk. "When this card is Summoned, I can Special Summon 1 Level 3 or below Sea Serpent from my Deck, and I choose the monster Lost Blue Breaker!" Her side of the field shimmered, and a sea creature materialized, followed by a serpentine hydra. (Lvl 2 Tuner, 200/400) (Lvl 3, 1400/0) "Lost Blue Breaker's effect! If I control another Aqua, Fish, or Sea Serpent monster, I can Tribute it to destroy 1 Spell or Trap on the field, and I choose that one," Natalie announced, pointing at the card on the left. Agro
Souta scratched the back of his neck as he saw Kenta handle his duel disk in response to his introduction, wondering if he gave the wrong impression. "Oh, nothing, just wanted to introduce myself. Seeing as we're both watching the duel." Souta yawned, a bit unconvinced if he actually wanted to watch the whole duel. "So what is it you have that makes you keep looking at your watch like that?" Souta slowly glanced back at the duel, catching in his vision another person approaching the duel from the street. Dementuo
Kai gave his opponent a slight not, as the card hologram off to his left shattered; Photon Wave. "Interesting choice. But... She left one monster still exposed, a weak one at that. Which means..." Kai glanced at his other card, still thinking. "Either she'll go on the defensive, or she'll try to overpower my monster. Her monster is a Tuner, which presents two possibilities. Either an Xyz summon, or a Synchro summon. An Xyz summon would give me the advantage, yet a Synchro would be quite interesting to witness." he thought. Kai gave another nod, to Kenta this time, before returning his focus to the duel. "You may continue."
evilfusion
Excellent. One of his defenses were gone, and now she could press forward a little more. "I activate Surface!" Natalie stated smoothly, revealing the Spell card. "This allows me to Special Summon 1 Level 3 or below Aqua, Fish, or Sea Serpent-Type monster from my Graveyard in Defense Position, and I'll revive my Lost Blue Breaker!" The serpentine monster reappeared, hissing once. (Lvl 3, 1400/0) "Now, I tune my Level 2 Deep Diva with my Level 3 Lost Blue Breaker!" Natalie announced. The Diva let out a musical shriek before it bursting into two green rings and quickly arranged themselves in a line. The hydra passed through the rings, becoming transparent, revealing a trio of glowing orbs representing its Level. A beam of light pierced through the line of rings. "Synchro Summon! Come forth, Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon!" A pool of water seemed to appear out of nowhere, and emerging from its depths was a large, winged, pale blue monster. It eyed Kai and then let out a shriek. (Lvl 5, 2300/1800) Natalie's eyes glinted with slight amusement. She could have used her Lost Blue Breaker to destroy his remaining Set card, but that would have left her low ATK Tuner out in the open. This was preferable. "I'll place two cards down, and call it a turn," she said softly, two cards appearing behind her monster. Premier Alexander Romanov
During the duel between Kai and Natalie, with Souta watching, a new player in this game watched and waited. She was Professor Delilah Atlas, and she was a Numbers Hunter. She had been traveling from universe to universe for years, collecting Numbers from different sets in different realities, insuring that those sets would never be completed in the process. Curiously, as she had observed, some Numbers were different in alternate universes. For example, her own personal Number, Graceful Knight Light, was Number 27 in the universe she captured it in, but in another universe, the position of Number 27 was occupied by a creature called Infernal Knight Cubic. Furthermore, she had managed to synthesize a powerful set of monsters in her home universe, the Photon monsters, for the express purpose of trumping and defeating Xyz Monsters, specifically Numbers. But this young man, Kai, possessed Photon cards on his own, including, presumably, a copy of Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. She had managed to acquire the remains of the legendary Blue-Eyes White Dragon and several other powerful dragons, and constructed an even more powerful dragon from their carDNA, her own Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon. She repeated the process with other cards to build the rest of her deck, only to find out that, in some universes, these cards were not one-of-a-kind, like the deck Kai currently possesses. Regardless, she had the perfect opportunity to study this universe's set of Numbers from her new position as the high school's new science teacher. Her associates were already setting up other monitoring devices across the city, and Judith, her assistant, was watching the duel as well, cleverly disguised as a motorcycle parked nearby. The plan was working, and soon, she would be able to detect a Numbers emergence in this city before it even occurs...
Zextra
"it's nothing important" Kenta answered as he turned back to the duel, though nothing much seemed to be happening, judging from the silence coming from the two duelists. He ejected his D-Gazer from his case and slid it over his eye, which immediately altered the colors of their surroundings, revealing the two monsters on the field: Photon Breaker and Sea Dragon Lord Gishilnodon. "Just the number of minutes before our subway train gets here" he continued. "So, you act as if you know Natalie well" Kenta stated as his focus shifted from Photon Breaker to Natalie's new winged sea serpent-like monster. Then, he turned back to Souta "Are you two...more than just classmates?" he sneered, teasingly.
Brinolovania
Jayce walked through a hallway in the Clear Brigade's headquarters. He stopped at a door, and went through it. As he expected, Kyokari Tsunoma was in his office. "Hello, Tsunoma. How are things going? Don't answer that, I really don't care. But you don't want to hear my witty comments do you? Of course not. On to business!" He pulled out his Duel Disk, and turned on a display. "Our agent at Heartland High just reported in. Apparently, he's managed to find something more interesting there than porn magazines students snuck in. He's got...let's see...at least 2 confirmed Number holders, possibly more." He tossed the Disk onto a table. Do me a favor, and copy the info onto something else, and show it to the big bosses. I'm heading out there." Simping For Hina
Without saying any words in response to the information he had just received, he gave a devious smile and nodded his head. He put the data into his computer as quickly as he could, then dragged it onto a disc that he labeled, "New Numbers." He ran to the bosses on the upper level at a slow pace with the disc in his right hand. "I wonder if I would have to fight or duel someone, I hope not. Agro
"Don't get the wrong idea." Souta looked back over at the two duelists, a bit regretful that he'd left both his D-Gazer and Deck at his house. "We've been rivals for as long as I can remember." Souta laughed. "I guess I just got over it more recently." It was about this point that he finally recognized the guy walking towards them. "Hey, Setsuna! Over here! How've you been!" Souta waved over to his friend. He wasn't expecting much of an answer, not with Setsuna's eyes focused through his D-Gazer on the duel in front of him. DeckShuffler711
Looking up at Souta, Setsuna's eyes widened. Waving at him, he turned around and picked his card up, before running over to him. "Yo Souta, what's with the duel between the Princess and that one guy?" He asked as he walked up to Souta. Souta was a pretty cool guy. He was actually the second person to duel him, since he had started to duel around town. Glancing at the girl's field, he stared at her Synchro. The Sea Dragon Lord? She ran a Synchro Deck? Turning towards the duel, his expression turned blank as he stared at Photon Breaker. He had never seen that type of card before. Was it new? "So, who is the guy running the Photon cards?" He asked as he looked at Souta and the guy Souta had been talking to. Glancing at the guy and the dude dueling Natalie, he raised a brow. "Are those two bros?" He asked as he crossed his arms, mimicking the pose of one of his favorite effect monsters in his deck.
Agro
"Oh, you know her, always challenging people." Souta looked back towards the duel, though I'm not exactly sure why she's dueling him. Oh, and this here's Kenta." Souta motioned to him. "Yeah, the guy dueling is Kenta's brother, Kai. And Kenta, this is Setsuna, he's in my grade, been here a while. If you need any help with anything while you're here, I'm sure he's your man." CommanderVolt
Kaminari Ya was just preparing to leave the school as he evantually found him self watching a duel between a new student and someone...not so new. "I have a few minutes to spare..." He thought, his pale-skinned hand rubbing against his chin. He wasn't in a rush to get anywhere, and his home was relatively boring with only his mother to keep him company. Of course, since Kaminari never linked his D-Gazer to spectate mode he couldn't see the monsters or cards the two duelists were playing. Kaminari slowly crept closer to the two duelists area but would remain out of their sight. His eyes fixated on the two duelists, carefully examining their facial expressions to determine how things were going. He crossed his arms, tightly fit in his heartland high-school uniform, which was a bit dull from being worn for such a long time. Kaminari noticed that their were quite a few people gathered around, but this did nothing more then irritate him. Despite his high marks, he had a bit of a reputation for being aggressive, and rude, and occasionally acting like a delinquent. However his intrest in dueling was very high, like many of the students in the school. He didn't possess a Numbers Card, nor was he after Numbers Cards. Kaminari wanted to accomplish the dream his father never got to do. Planning on doing exactly that, he would always intently watch the other duelists in "his" school, as he would like to call it. Dementuo
"Gishilnodon... As I though, she Synchro Summoned. Let's see... Synchro Monsters are generally more powerful than Xyz monsters, but still have a level, making them easier targets. The materials used are sent to the grave, meaning they can be re-used instantly, and their abilities aren't dependant of overlaid units." Kai recalled his knowledge of Synchro Monsters, having only studied them and never actually seen one. "Gishilnodon... I haven't heard of this one before." he thought. "My turn, Draw." Gazing at his hand, Kai seemed reluctant to make a move. "Two set cards. I can't do anything blindly. Photon Breaker won't do anything useful for me right now... Photon Lizard in my grave, with what's in my hand now... If I'm right, I'll be able to summon either of my aces next turn." Kai thought through his next moves carefully. Then, looking up, he replied. Zextra
"Hi there" Kenta gave a short greeting to Setsuna. "And I don't know why they're dueling - From what I saw, Natalie just seemed interested in dueling him" he shrugged, shaking his head as Natalie flipped over her Spell Card. "Well, he wasted half his hand getting that Photon Breaker out, so I'm assuming he has a plan to get another monster with at least 2000 ATK out..." Kenta thought, knowing exactly which card Kai had in his hand. "Though honestly, I can say that my own dragon would probably be more of a help in this situation" he continued, rolling his eyes. DeckShuffler711
Laughing lightly at Souta's comment, Setsuna scratched the back of his head. Though Natalie was infamous for challenging people, he was the only person who had never dueled her. Of course, up until a few weeks prior, he never really dueled anyone. Sitting down next to the two, he felt his ponytail rise up and hit his back as it fell. Blushing lightly as Souta introduced him to Kenta, he lowered his hat and shook his head. Souta always was perfectly willing to drag him into any sort of ordeal, wasn't he? Watching as Photon Breaker was shrunk down by the girl's spell, he gritted his teeth. A mere Shrink was about to doom his monster? "He has to have some kind of counter attack planned, right?" He asked as he looked over at Kenta. Turning his attention back to Kai and Natalie's duel, he crossed his arms. Setsuna had found himself in a similar situation before, but he ended up breaking through with one of the more unusual cards in his father's deck. Loyal A.I. was his father's "partner" and the most precious card to him. It had a similar effect to the card Honest, but was only useful for Mech monsters and reduced the ATK of an opponent's monster down to 0.
Dementuo
"I activate my own face-down card, Photon Assimilation." Kai said, tapping a button on his Duel Disk, causing the card hologram on his field to flip up. "By banishing one of the Photon monsters in my grave, I'm able to double my monster's Original Attack, essentially canceling out your Shrink." Kai noted, as the effects of Shrink seemed to wear off instantly, and Kai's Photon Breaker grew to its original size once more. Kai sighed. "I must be stressed today. Haven't played this badly in a while." he thought.
