Don't ask about the red paint thing. I thought it would give it better flow, but now I'm not sure.

Don't ask about the text either. GIMP isn't that user friendly with text.

Gimp can do amazing things with text alone :/
You got depth, flow is still needing a lot of change.
Lighting? You have none at all.
Very monotoneish. More or less.
Text, remove now.

Got any pointers? The red paint thing sucks, I know, and so does the text, but I used the gradient tool for lighting (I guess it didn't work.)

Depth isn't too well down in this, but you have it showing a little.
For lighting, it is more or a Black and White setting and mess around with it. I use gradients when really desperate.
DO NOT USE ANY TEXT YET. Flow is sometihng you have to get a feel for. Keep in my of the rule of thirds.
