Raine
The year was 1995; Clinton was NOT having sexual relations with that woman, cars has cassette players, the Back Street Boys and N-Sync set the model for boy bands, everyone forgot about Kurt Cobain, and NGE episode 1 was released. Discuss the epicness and mind-f*** that was NGE. ... ... ...or I guess if you think it is overrated, you can say that too. BUT I WILL STRIKE YOU DOWN! AND WHEN I COME DOWN, I SLICE, LIKE A GODDAMN HAMMER!

DARKPLANT RISING
The old movie has logic. It's just way too deep for the majority of viewers, and thus it's often mistaken that it's a simple mind f***er. In fact it's not at all. The series is overall just simply amazing. Raine
Yes, NGE was fantastic for characters. I haven't seen characters that deep since Real Life... oh wait those characters are shallow. NEVERMIND! I'm glad to see others love this anime as much as I, oh and Dark we know its not a mind f*** but when you take an over-arching concept cram it into a single moral reflected into a massive metaphor with earth destroying nude pubescent girls and SHINJI! ...its damn close.
Completely agree. The whole series is just pure psychological genius, and the philosophical aspects used in it are just brilliant. Many people don't appreciate the series for what is truly is and therefore fail to realise how amazing it is.
Laskeri - Unmei no Senshi
On the outside, I hate it, but I love it at the same time, I don't know if that makes any sense. I guess I'm glad I didn't watch episode 25 and 26 and just watched The End of Evangelion instead :/

On topic: Read Ken Ishikawa's Bug Killer Freed or Skull Killer Jakio, realize NGE is a homage to it. Except swap Buddhist symbols and names with Christian ones and add in more moe blobs, and you have NGE.
Fusion X. Denver
I liked NGE a lot, despite a few faults (like how Kaworu suddenly became so important for like one episode). It did confuse me and it took me a while to understand Anno's message behind the series, but I can appreciate the series for what it set out to accomplish. DARKPLANT RISING
I liked NGE a lot, despite a few faults (like how Kaworu suddenly became so important for like one episode).
But if Kaworu had came out from around ep 20, for example, it would result in : -The 17th Angel invading before several others. -Kaworu fighting the other Angels, given he's a pilot and his "job" was to eliminate them. ...That's stupid. It was a bit sudden, but a necessary plot movement.
I can agree with that, but the other thing I didn't like was how Shinji overreacted at Kaworu's betrayal when he didn't know the guy for that long. Even for Shinji, it felt a little unnatural, though that's just me.

Even for Shinji, it felt a little unnatural, though that's just me.
Shinji wasn't shocked because it was Kaworu. It could have been anybody, in fact. Shinji thought he was betrayed by Gendo when young, and as a result, developed an intense fear against betrayal from anyone he loves. Kaworu acted as a friend, but in Shinji's eyes, betrayed him, and that's what mattered. This fear goes full-scale after Shinji kills Kaworu, resulting to Shinji's mentality collapsing in eps 25 and 26 and the original movie.
Fusion X. Denver
That makes a lot more sense written down than seeing it >> I think I tricked myself because to me it seemed like Shinji had feelings for him and reacted like a girl who just found out her boyfriend cheated on her.
Shinji certainly had feelings for him, but those feelings weren't necessarily romantic. Kaworu was just about the only person who ever showed Shinji unconditional love, which means that his betrayal would affect Shinji like that, even if Shinji wasn't in love with Kaworu. Just Crouton
I liked the show. The movie was great, but the second half was a little disappointing. After the blood bath in NERV and Asuka getting reduced to hamburger, I really wanted to see Shinji duke it out with the MP Evas more than the deep stuff. Raine
Just a few weeks ago I got the ball and watched the Rebuild movies, ...They are at least twice as good as the orginal NGE. Mostly because they don't have to make those unnessiasary T.V. Devices that make Shinji pathetic but inside an emotional kid who is overwelmed and confused at point. Oh, and last 5 minutes of 2.22... that made everything, AMaZING!

Xenogears
Neon Genesis Evangelion is, in my opinion, the best anime ever created. Also, I loved how it's similar to Xenogears.
