And as skills with magic grew, fear of the abuses one could make to and with this power, grew as well. As such, a group, known only as the Doormen, rose up and they locked it away from our world, from time. Magic was sealed in the heavens, further than any man could reach. They locked magic in the Never After, and split the Key into five pieces to prevent that door from opening again. The Doormen called upon the powers of the Twelve Houses of the Zodiac, one of the few remain magics in the world, to watch over the seal as gatekeepers. While sealing away the entirety of magic away was impossible, it was centuries before man discovered how to make 'keys' and regain some access to magical powers. [size=5][font=Old English text MT]B[/font][/size]ut that is Ancient history. Such tales were long forgotten, and humanity has forgotten about the truth of magic. Even within the houses, knowledge of the Never After lock are mere lore. But now, rumours of the true power of the Lock have arisen. The last Grand Master has died, and with his death, the true knowledge has died. But tales abound, that uniting the Blaze, Gale, Deluge and Ore Keys with the spirit Key will form the Key of Eternity. It you can get that key, the power of all magic will be yours to control. As to what you will do with that Godly power, that isn't up to me, it's up to you. [size=5][font=Old English text MT]S[/font][/size]till, the question has to be asked, after all this time, why now? Who started the rumours of long forgotten tales in the first place? What is the goal of starting a mad rush for a treasure only you held knowledge of? Some belief that the origin, and originator, of these rumours has a far more sinister plan in mind than just kind-heartedly informing the magical communities of this phenomenal power, but not many care either way. The chance is there, and it is up to them to take it. [size=6][font=Baskerville Old face]First Lock- Key to Discovery[/font][/size] The private burial of James Edwards, president of the Gregory Matthews Academy, will be held at the campus auditory followed by burial at the school monument. To normal students and the population in general, it is a time of mourning the passing of a prominent school figure. To those with magical talent however, it was the first step. Something was going to happen at his funeral that would provide the first step to finding Keys and, ultimately, gaining access to the Never After, and the magic it confines. That funeral is a week from now. Time to prepare, time to plot. [spoiler=[font=algerian]Things that Might interest you[/font]] [font=algerian]Magic[/font] Because of the change to the very nature of magic the Doormen caused, magic needs more than just belief. 'Belief is just the hand that turns the Key in the Lock'. To actually use it, you need a Lock and a Key. More often than not, the Lock is the teachings of your magic, the system that makes it work. As such, the Lock is metaphysical in nature and does not take on true corporal form until High Magics are used. Seals are a representation of Locks. The Key is the tool you use. Keys can be anything, from the familiar used by some witches, to a book used by scholars or an actual key like some Doormen. High Magic is more energy draining but very powerful. Typically has long incantations or summoning times as well as caps or limits to the use. [font=algerian]Doormen[/font] Doorman magic revolves around keys, using different keys to achieve different effects. Their keys often transform to and/or from other objects, and can be unpredictable. Their magic is ethereal or spiritual, and can take the form of any element. [font=algerian]Zodiacs[/font] One of the oldest existing magics aside from pure elemental magic and the Doorman magic. Due to the dwindling of belief and magic power, only one key holder for each house remains, though some houses seemed to have died out all together. Their magic often has two or three elements because of the Houses Triplicity; one from the classical, the attribute of their house, light or dark depending on the holders personality and one other that varies from holder to holder. [font=algerian]The Closing[/font] The event that resulted in the sealing away of magic. Of the five Doormen that triggered it, only one returned. Not much else is know about or the circumstances that lead to it or followed. What we know is conjecture. [font=algerian]Key of Eternity[/font] The Key of Eternity is a device for traveling to and opening the Never After Gate. It is broken into five pieces, each of the classical elements; Fire element Blaze Key, air element Gale Key, water element Deluge Key, earth element Ore Key, and ethereal Spirit Key. What exactly they are is long forgotten. [font=algerian]Never After Gate[/font] Like much about the Closing, little information about it is factual. It is assumed to be a seal or portal of sorts. [font=algerian]Never After[/font] Not much is know of this place. All we know is that the original Doormen locked magic there during the Closing. [font=algerian]Gregory Matthews Academy[/font] An alternative education private school established officially a little over a century before. It is less like a school and more like a small city, and covers education from the preschool level all the way to post-graduate university education and is more or less self sustaining. It acts as a cover for one of the North America's largest magical training sites and straddles the US-Canada border. It has two types of classes; normal mundane classes and the magical classes that you only get into if you’re a registered magi student. They often overlap and have 2 sections and teachers for mundane and magic, like the World Mythology Class, which doubles as Magical Theory for magi students. The Academy is something of a city, having farms tended by agricultural students, stores, a mall, two theatres, a small police station and even a border crossing (though only students or Academy residents are allowed to use it.) It is completely self sustaining. This is mostly because it was built to be a refugee for Magi if war ever broke out between then and the Mundane (as it threatened to a couple times in the past, like the witch hunting times.) Most of the stores have student workers manning the posts, but there are resident non-students. He is a true Lion, born under all three signs of Leo, and was seen as a sign that the linage of the Lion was not dwindling out, a welcome sign a following the revelation that his oldest brother, Arik, had next to no magic potential. As the youngest of three brothers, he was not expected to be the Lion's representative (he has a sister, Ariel, who is second born, but the Lion was always male and the linage of Leo tends to be very traditional), just another family head. As such, the rings of Regulus and Sol, the Key of Leo, went to his second brother, Levon. Tragedy struck when Lavi almost a decade later. While attempting a High Summoning, Levon lacked the power to complete it, and the spell backfired. Since then, Levon has been in a coma, leaving Lavi as the representative and the holder of the key. Rather than turning him against magic, it fuelled his drive, and he not only trained, but did research into magics that could help his brothers. While most of the knowledge was lost, the Lenard family kept some alive in the form of epic tales, some of which were published every few decades as stories by family members, and through them, Lavi has been learning the magics of the Doormen. He know works in Academy city as the TA for Magical Theory class at the University level as well as the optional high school course, and handles some of the practical labs for basic magic that the students learn. [b]Personality:[/b] Lavi has a regal air to him and is very self conscious about his appearance, as well as confident and proud. He is hard-working and has big dreams about making the world a better place. He is determined and motivated by the needs of others (which is why he teaches), and is over-all intensive and passionate. As such, he is loyal, but a bit traditional and not all that accepting of some changes. He is more than willing to face the consequences of his actions, but can be a bit… emotional. He tends to keep them in until he is alone, but he does have his moments. [spoiler=Appearance]Lavi, being very self-conscious about his appearance, though not necessarily vain, commonly wears suits or coordinated outfits (he even sleeps in a full set of pajamas), but more often conservative suits. Despite his often hands-on position and the combative melee nature of his magic, he really appears messy or tussled, leading to speculation that he has some sort of stasis or stay-clean spell on his clothes. Everything he owns is pretty practical and unhindering to his movements. In terms of physique, he has a careful balance of muscle vs mobility. A little over six feet, his muscular build is somewhat tamer than you would expect, and he has more the air of a fit scholar than a fighter, though he is both. As testament to the effectiveness of his healing magics, he has no scars on his body, further reinforcing the image of a scholar over a fighter. His eyes are a golden brown shade, piercing and intelligent, yet not all that intimidating, those it can change to a golden yellow glow if his temper is roused or he is feeling some other intense emotion. His hair is thick, part way between blond, brown and gold, strongly resembling that of a lions. He carried a comb with him and periodically fixes his hair if it, by chance, gets tussled or mussed. The syling is somewhare between wild and conservative, and he takes pain in maintaining it. Eventually, when he was about nine years old to be exact, his talents were discovered, accidentally, by the other children. Having expected his power to be met with awe and excitement, he was surprised when he saw only fear and hatred in the eyes of the other children. They began throwing small sticks and rocks at him, calling him a freak and telling him to get out. He ran away from the orphanage, crying uncontrollably and eventually finding himself lost in the big city and unable to find his way back to the closest thing he had to a home. He wandered around for three days until one day when he used his magic to knock a would-be kidnapper into the side of a van and was noticed by one of the elderly teachers at the Gregory Mathews Academy and taken to that wondrous magical city. He was raised as her own child and upon her death inherited her home and all of its contents. He has since taken up a job at the Academy as the TA for the Application of Magical Technique class, and through reading the many tomes and grimoires hidden away in the old woman's library has gained great knowledge in the art of chaos magic, as well as they Key of Eternity.[/font][/spoiler] [font=times new roman,times,serif][b]Personality: [/b] Thaddeus is a bit of an introvert, not trusting the company of others particularly well with a few exceptions. Those who have proven themselves trustworthy with him are well-liked and he enjoys their company above all other things. When not doing his job as a teacher's assistant, he can usually be found in the study of his home, reading through some tome or another as he holds another few in the air via telekinesis. Akira has 3 brothers and 1 sister older than him. His elder brothers are bullies, and would be treating him a lot to their latest ideas of punishment and embarrassment. His sister is just the opposite. She was the one who would protect her little brother. He is a smart kid in school, a member of the crafts and school drama teams. This earns him the regular sneers from his brothers. All was nice and fine, well when he was out of reach of his brothers anyways, with his mom and dad and his kind sis. When he reached his 12 birthday, among the apparent festivities, there was some kind of gloom. two of his brothers even came forward to take him into a local club's baseball match. Akira had so much fun. It was like dreams come true. And then the world crashed around him as he reached home. His dad told him flatly, "Gorou" my son, you are 12, i think its time that we told you some facts about you. We are not your parents, but rather we adopted you. your mom died at child birth. We never knew who your daddy might be." Senor Kanji continued, "Please forgive us for this, for I thought we should let you know". In such a time of intense emotion, the warm hug from his "adoptive" mother and elder sis, gave him immense comfort. He next went and hugged his dad, for he was overcome with respect for the old geezer. Even his brothers came around and let him know that since he could withstand all their tortures, he was a man now; they even gave him a watch that had a dolphin! [b]Personality:[/b] Gorou doesn't like to be called Gorou. He likes his nickname Akira. He likes maths and economics. He hates the history classes. He has already been caught nodding off many-a-time. He also hates the teacher Mr. Ganjou. Akira isn't too much into sports and other such activities. He is pretty frail. His only pal in school, Hikaru, was a partner in his crafts and for his school drama, and for him, he is willing to do anything that needs doing. He will try to stay away from school bullies, actually escape these bullies, even though some are in trouble, he would prefer to escape. Some time ago, while returning from a college drama performance in the nearby town, he saw some people try and rob some old woman who was carrying some food. Something had happened to him, he didn't remember but, those bad people were gone, that's for sure. [b]Appearance:[/b] Akira is 5’1” and weighs a meager 48 kilos. While able to absorb and redirect other magics it has a corrupting effect on those who wield it or are exposed to it for too long. However Veronika's magic comes from within her, making her seemingly immune to these side effects, while others will be noticeably effected by it. Her illusions are masterful and almost convincingly real. Only those with a strong will or are assisted have a chance of escape. His father drove Syfer's mother to the hospital in a wailing police car, which Syfer could instinctively hear from inside his mother's uterus. He was mothered at home for two years, where it was discovered that he possessed strange powers beyond the average human. His powers were taught to be controlled before he was sent to live with his father, where he was heavily disciplined to follow orders. Since military school was not legal for a boy his age, his father trained him up until he was sixteen, where he signed up for the military and was immediately appointed sergeant. He retired from the Army four years later, finding duty at a school of magic known as Gregory Matthews Academy, where he freely trained his magic of light and spiritual control so that one day he could bring justice where and when it is needed most. [b]Personality: [/b]Being a security guard, Syfer is always on his guard, trusting few. A little surprise is enough to throw a fist at the unlucky person, but his self-control keeps him from doing anything stupid. He is a loyal man with little hesitation when in comes to guard duty and criminal investigation. He is gifted with tracking by clues and close-combat with the criminal when he lays hands on him or her. When one gets to know him, he is rather sturdy and cries for nearly nothing, but he shows sympathy for the hardships of one close to him and shares his own stories. Off duty, he works as a gardener for his own hut not far from campus, taking joy in the outdoors and the beautiful weather, and while it's raining, he stays indoors and cooks.
