Girls have interests too you know? Though I'm probably as shy as you people, I still wouldn't promote sitting still waiting for super-cute-sexy-smart-kind girl-with-similar-interests to suddenly come into your life and like you while you are still young... if at all. When I was in High School, I had 2 (male) friends that had girls they liked... they pretty much recited poetry about their loves, but the girls they liked probably never even got to know them. They stayed like that for the whole year. That year graduated, and never talked to the girls again (or even knew their whereabouts). "I can do that anytime" but that implies actually doing it once in a while... There is this annual event at that school when all students are rolling around looking at presentations from different classes they don't usually belong to, at different places of school. I think it's called "Celebration of Learning". I had already graduated, but went back as a visitor, with a special pass and mixed with the rest of the students. I found my friend in there and offered (and gave) my special visitor pass so he could sneak to the girl's class group and confess in his very last day of High School... ever. After which he would move 2 States North in the US, to never come back. He had nothing to loose, and he failed to even talk to her.
