Theory: Maybe due to their race-wide military culture they either: -Take care of the young comunally -They leave their homes (or are kicked out) at a very young age. Twilight's family showed up in her flashback, because it makes sense for her parents to be at her exam. Rarity's parents showed up for about five seconds, when they dropped Sweetie Belle off at her house, which also makes sense. Applejack doesn't have known parents either, but because of the fact that she lives on a farm, it makes sense we'd see her family a lot. And Pinkie Pie, her past ALSO had to do with her old family and old home, so yeah. I could be wrong, but I personally just don't look too deeply into things.
