She was kidnapped once, and even then, with some help, the princess in distress saved her knight in shining armor. During her second appareance, she may have been in distress, but because of her own choice, putting the ones that cannot help themselves before her own well-being and keeping everypony safe while the others try to fix the cause of the problem. There may not be hints of this happening in the fandom, but Cadance has several similarities to Saori Kido from Saint Seiya, the final opinion of the fans about her may end up being the same.
