A regular morning comes to Domino city, people going about their regular lives, regular business. The people are blissfully unaware of the chaos that will soon engulf the city, but until then everything is normal…Everything is quiet.

Zeus watched the chamber through a protective window, surrounded by computers and scientists, as he watched the display in the chamber before him; a single card was mounted on a platform, held within a glass dome as electricity was sparking about it and lasers bombarded its surface. Zeus’ regular smug grin was replaced by an irritated frown, for three weeks they had subjected this card to test after test to try and uncover its secrets. The other scientists called him mad, that so much money spent on a project based around a simple trading card was ridiculous, but they stayed anyway. The pay check was more than worth the trouble of sitting around a computer all day in order to say that nothing was out of the ordinary.

Zeus did not understand it, he knew this card held power and he knew if he could get to that power it would prove a massive breakthrough, and yet after all the trouble of tracking down this one card and taking it from its owner and it had yielded none of its secrets.

The energies ceased and the lackeys about the room voiced the results, repeating the same thing they’d been saying since the project began.

“Nothing,”

The world echoed within Zeus’ head, causing his frown to turn into a grimace. If this kept up then his funds would all be depleted, his equipment and laboratory abandoned, his work destroyed. Without a word he turned about and strode out of the room, hands clasped behind his back, thinking.

****

Syra hopped off the train and looked about him, letting out an impressed whistle as he saw the Kaiba Corp building in the distance, towering above the rest of Domino and easily standing out with its bright colours.

“Man, they should make more buildings like that,” he joked as he exited the station.

He shifted the weight of the backpack on his shoulders and pulled a small, crumpled note
from his pocket.

“Let’s see,” he muttered “Vulture Project should be somewhere around…Uh…” He paused, frowning “I have no idea.”

He let out a sigh and returned the note to his pocket.

“I guess I could ask for directions,” he mused “‘Hey man, I need to break into this super top secret place with all this awesome security cause they stole 1 trading card from me and I really, really want it back so could you tell me where it is?’” He said mockingly “Like that’s gonna work.”

He began to whistle softly as he strode down the street to keep his mood light, taking in the sights around him as he wandered around.

Track was walking the streets of domino city in search of the Kaiba corporation building. Track was annoyed that he couldn't find it and looked around some more. People walking past him though he was some sort of weirdo because he was wearing a brown ragged hooded cloak with the hood up. Some people were even whispering about him immediately realising that he was the famous duel bandit. They recognised him from his cloak. Track noticed a guy was whistling whilst walking so Track decided to ask him. Track ran up to the guy and stood in his way. "Hey you. You know where the Kaiba Corp building is. Dont ask me who I am." Track waited for the guy to answer his question.

Elizabeth Linwood was sitting at her desk, as she often was, working. She glanced to the clock on her wall. "The challenger's almost here," she reminded herself, "I wonder if this one will show up." Moments later, her phone rang.

"Miss Linwood, a young man has arrived for a duel" the secretary on the other end told her.

"Thank you," she replied, "I will be down shortly." Replacing the phone, she took her deck from the desk draw, and turned it over. The card on top was her Spectrum card, the one her challenger was attempting to win. She looked at it for a moment, before pocketing the deck, picking up the duel disk, and heading out of the office.

Tsuchi was about his daily life, and as usual, he expected someone to challenge him for his spectrum card. Something was wrong, nobody was still interested in him..

"Ha, have they given up because I am just too strong? Well, it's no time to get cocky..." He was confused at how they didn't care. "Indeed, it is time for a break. I'll go visit the card shop I guess." Within seconds he was already walking at a fast pace, slightly angered by how people finally started to notice him. This time he had no interest in a duel, he wanted to do something else.

He finally arrived at the card shop. For some reason, he was excited.

"Hey there, Tsuchi!" it was the person who had sold him many of his best cards. Tsuchi was naturally friends with him, and he was always grateful for what he has done.
"Hello, so how are you?" Tsuchi asked him, in a friendly and warming voice. "Oh, I'm fine. So, I heard that there are quite a few people in domino city with cards like yours!" Tsuchi changed his expression, to a slightly suprised one. Then, he started to grin.
"Ah, I guess it'll be fun to meet them. I think it'd be fun to duel someone who's not after my card again." He replied confidently.
"I'm not sure that's completely true," he started to have a serious look "I think some want them all, and will try to snatch it from you at any moment. I've even heard scary rumors about those cards. Something to do with them being gathered together. I'm not sure if they should be united, or shouldn't."

The man knew Tsuchi was thinking hard the moment he stopped looking at him. He knew to just let him leave - to think.
"Could my spectrum card really be this special? I don't know much about these cards, so he could be right." Tsuchi sat down at a nearby bench, and went deep in thought - into a trance...

Caetus had just finished a duel when he got an odd sensation from his deck, he then noticed a guy wearing a weird cloak and decided that it would be a good idea to get out of there before that guy tried to bum money of off him or something creepy and Caetus began to walk away. Sigh, i go out for grocieries and get nothing but trouble, oh well at least I won't be eating ramen for dinner again. With that Caetus began to walk home still feeling that sensation and became more worried by it wasn't going away.

Syra was quite happily walking along and whistling a tune that sounded very close to the Hyrule Field music when he was stopped by a boy wearing a ragged brown cloak. Syra froze on the spot with one foot halfway to the pavement and his mouth still in a whistlling shape but no actual sound came out. Syra stared at the boy for a moment, raising an eyebrow at his odd appearance.

You'd think people would outlaw mysterious hooded cloaks, he thought to himself I mean it's always so obvious that whoever is wearing them wants to stay hidden so they're most likely up to no good.

The boy was very abrupt in demanding to know where the Kaiba Corp building was, not even taking the time to introduce himself and in fact stating outright that Syra wasn't even to ask him.

Guess I'll just call him Obi-Wan then, he thought.

"You can see if from the train station if that helps," he said, jabbing his thumb over his shoulder to indicate the direction he'd come from "Big bright blue building, lots of windows and primary colours, looks like an oversized playmobile toy, can't miss it."

He lowered his arm again and was about to move off when he paused, turning on one foot to face the hooded boy again.

"Oh, speaking of 'looking for places' you don't happen to know when the Vulture Project labs are?" He asked "Big lab-type place, lots of windows and metal doors, kinda like Star Trek...Except Star Trek's in space and this is on the ground, so in fact it's nothing like Star Trek." He paused, trying to make sense of his own sentence and staring off into space.

Track looked at the other boy and nodded his head as he got the information that was needed. Then he asked Track if he knew where the vulture project labs where. Track stared at the guy, as he began talking about Star Trek. Track just shook his head. "Vulture Project huh. Let me think. Oh yeah. I did happen to see a building like that. Just keep going down that road and take a left. You should be able to see it." Track then thought to himself. "I see. This Vulture Project seems interesting. I was planning on getting hired by Kaiba Corp to get some money. But now that I think of it I don't think their gonna want to hire the duel bandit. But u guess this place would take me." Track then stopped thinking in his head and began to talk out loud. "Okay follow me. I'll show you the way." Track turned around and began to walk away. He turned and looked at the boy. "So you coming or what."

Tsuchi began to try and knock answers out of himself. "Should I really believe that?..." He had finally come up with an answer. "Well, he has been very generous to me all my life. The least I could do is try to believe him." Tsuchi drifted out of his trance, and back into the real world, with his mind made up.

Tsuchi knew what he wanted to do. He wanted to find out the truth about these cards, so he began searching. He finally stopped at the library. He looked for books that could lead to anything related to these cards.

"Nothing. Ugh." He turned around to see someone who looked like a member of staff.
"Are you having trouble, sir? Do you require any help?" It was a new employee. Tsuchi could tell by how nervously he sounded, and the way he spoke.
"In fact, yeah," he had a question in mind but he didn't expect him to know, "I'm looking for a certain book. One that relates to this," Tsuchi reached into his pocket, and pulled out the top card. It was his spectrum card, and he revealed it to him.
"A-a-amazing! I mean- yes. Well, sort of," he pointed to a door at the other side, "you see, in there are some really ancient books. I'm afraid there might not be something that relates directly to your card, but-" Tsuchi was already speeding towards the door.

"Thanks, nice to meet you!"

Tsuchi had walked in, and was immediately shocked because of how small the room was. He found alight switch, and began searching.
"Nothing, again... Wait, this might do." Tsuchi reached out for a book that contained brief history of the different cards, A-Z.
"Let's see, a lot of old cards here. Ah, here we go, the next page should be it," Tsuchi had a disappointed look on his face when he realized a page was missing.
"Great! Just great!" Tsuchi closed the book, showing quite a bit of anger.

Elizabeth's duel was already as good as over. Neither player had a field, and only Elizabeth had a hand. With only 900 life points, her opponent would need very good luck not to lose this turn.

"Well, you weren't bad, but you're at far too low a level to have stood a chance," Elizabeth told the boy. "You've seen no more than a glimpse of the power of those who hold the spectrum cards - you'll need to get a lot stronger if you want to gain one. I summon Harpie Queen." The green-haired winged beast emerged onto her field, talons raised (ATK 1900). "Harpie Queen, attack him directly." The harpie leaped forward and slashed at the boy, bringing his life points to zero. The images on the field faded away, and Elizabeth turned away. "Well, at least you provided with me with some entertainment," she told him, leaving the arena.

Not long after, she stepped out of the Linwood corporation's offices, now wearing a jacket and with a bag on her shoulder, having decided she wanted to get some fresh air. She'd gone in early, and hadn't had much of a break until the duel.

"Awesome" Syra gave two thumbs up and trotted after the boy, resuming his whistling.

He took the opportunity to look around himself, noting the people giving the cloaked boy funny looks before quickly moving away, causing Syra to become rather curious as to the boy's identity. After a moment of pondering he finally spoke up:

"So what's with the Jedi robe? You hiding from the empire or something?" He asked jokingly.

He chuckled at his own joke before looking ahead and spotting a large silver building in the distance, surrounded by metal fencing and a large electronic gate.

"Ahah, that'll be it," he exclaimed excitedly "Well it's been nice meeting you Obi-wan but I gotta dash, see ya later."

With that he gave the hooded boy a brief wave and sprinted in the direction of the facility, having not even begun to think about how he was even going to get inside.

Track stared at the boy who had asked about the hooded cloak. Track also heard the comment about Track being Obi Wan because of the cloak. Track was annoyed but ignored the comment. Before Track could answer the boy ran off towards the building. "What an idiot. I can't believe he just ran off like that. I bet he doesn't even know how to get in. Well I better head in there seeing as I've already helped him out. Wait a second. He doesn't seem to know who I am yet. So maybe I can get some more information on this vulture project thing. I guess I can befriend this guy." Track began to run to the other boy. "Hey wait up." He shouted. "I can help you get in there."

Brighton was at the hospital, like usual. This was his last patient before the end of his shift. Just a generic hypochondriac, there was nothing wrong with the person even if he claimed to have swine flu. It was just a regular cold, but Brighton weren't the kind of person to just turn away from a patient.

"So, mister Fern, you work at the Vulture Project labs?" He asked. He usually asked similar questions to patients to know them better. "What do you do there?"

"Nothing." The fat, moustached man said, lying on his bed staring at the roof. "Zeus, our boss, is obsessed with a trading card and we're there to look at it. At least we get payed..."

"So you're running tests on a Duel Monsters card? Maybe it's one of those legendary cards?" Brighton said, thinking about the stories he'd heard about Egyptian Gods and Legendary Dragons.

"The only uncommon this card does is glow green, like if it was the very personification of the color."

Brighton stopped what he was doing. This sounded a lot like one of his own cards, except his glowed blue at certain occasions.

"Anyway, Fern, you're fine to go. just take this." He gave the man a bottle of cough medicine. "I'm off for today now, anything else you need?"

"No."
-------------
The next day.

Brighton had taken the day off to question Zeus if he knew anything about the mysterious card given to Brighton by Amal. Brighton now stood outside the Vulture Project building, just staring at the door.

((And now's the time to bump into him!))

Tsuchi headed out of the room where many ancient books, only to come facing the person who had helped him before.

"Oh, I just wanted to let you know," the employee took a glance at the book that had been shut so fiercely, "there's a place called the vulture .project labs. If you go there, I hear that you might find another one of those spectrum cards. Chances are that any other people will know more about those cards."

Oh great, what if he's wrong again... Well, it's worth a try, he thought.

"Okay, thanks again!" Tsuchi set off, outside again. He got caught up in the large crowd of people shopping around, only to get lost and have to ask for directions.

"Hey there, can someone point to the vulture projects lab?"

"Behind you. What, are you some kind of blind duelist?" A random person mocked him, yet he now knew where to go. Looks heavy on security, I better wait for someone to try and get in before making my move, he would have to just wait on a bench, and every so often take a look at the building.

"Hm? What was that?" Syra was so caught up in his own thoughts that he didn't hear what the hooded boy was saying, neither did he see where he was going as he turned his head to look back over his shoulder "Sorry, but you're gonna have to speak u-AH!"

Having not been paying attention to his trajectroy, or even bothering to slow down, Syra ran straight into another person waiting outside the gate, landing in a heap on the ground.

"Ow, that was dumb," he commented aloud as he got to his feet, massaging a bruise on his temple "Hey, you okay dude? Sorry about that, I guess my brakes need oiling or something."

He chuckled at his own joke.

Zues was wandering the halls of his facility, deep in thought, when one of the security personel came up to him.

"Sir, I think you should see this," the man said "There's a couple of people outside the gate."

Zues raised an eyebrow: "How many,"

"3, sir. A man and two boys."

Zues rubbed his chin, deep in thought.

"Should I send someone out to get rid of them?" The guard asked.

Zues paused for a moment before finally speaking up.

"No," he said slowly "No, I think I'll meet them myself."

The guard nodded and left, leaving Zues alone with his thoughts.

The writings did say the Spectrum cards drove Duellists to possess them, he pondered Perhaps these people are after the card itself....Better yet, what if they have Spectrum cards of their own?

A thoughtful grin spread across Zues' face. One card was said to hold untold power, he could only image what would happen if he has more.

Elizabeth hadn't been paying much attention to where she was going - just enough to ensure she knew her way back - and found herself outside the Vulture research labs. She looked up at the large building for a while, something ticking over in the back of her mind. Suddenly it came to her.

I have to schedule a visit to that researcher's lab, she recalled, Zeus, it was. I have no idea why my parents think research on a trading card is a worthwhile investment, but since I'm here I may as well see if I can have a look.

A few people were outside, but she ignored them, and walked up to the entrance. A communication system was installed alongside the gate, and she pushed a button.

"Good morning," she said brightly, "I'm here from the Linwood corporation, and I was wondering if I could speak to a "Zeus" regarding potential investment."

"I'm fine!" Brighton said with a smile, looking at Syra. He then turned his sight to the other boy and understood they too were going into the Vulture Project building. "You're trying to get in too?" He asked, even though he knew the answer. "I've tried all morning, but the guards won't let me in..."

He walked around in circles, trying to come up with a way to get in. "I have this card, you see, that I need an expert to look at. It's rather strange." He then figured that maybe they knew something about the card. He pulled his deck out of his pocket and picked a specific card out of it. "Have you ever seen a card like this before?" He asked, showing the Cerulean Feather Phoenix to Syra.

Track caught up with the other boy as he fell on the floor after bumping into some man that was already standing at the entrance. Track shook his head and stared at the older man as he talked about a card then showed it to Syra. Track stared at the card in surprise. "Wow. That card is amazing. I've never seen anything like it." Track then decided it was time to reveal his identity, to make sure that the owner of this lab could see him and want to see what the famous duel bandit was doing there. "Well I know exactly how to get in." Track pulled down the hood of the cloak showing his face then showed the rest of his body by taking off the rest of the cloak. "I am Track. Or as you would probably know me. The Duel Bandit."

Syra stared at the card, both eyebrows raised. It was certainly an impressive looking card and from the looks of it was rare as well. Just by looking at it though Syra felt a funny feeling deep inside himself, a feeling so distant that he wasn't even sure he was the one feeling it: Hate. Having no logical reason to hate such a card he shrugged the feeling off and ignored it, it likely wasn't even important anyway.

"Looks familiar, but I'm sure I've never seen a card like it before," he said.

The boy Syra has dubbed 'obi-wan' then took off his cloak, claiming he could get them inside and announced his identity as somebody named 'Track the Duel Bandit'.

Syra gave him a funny look, completely oblivious to what this was supposed to mean.

****

Zues, however, was watching the group on the security feed and his interest was piqued when Track revealed his identity.

"Fitting that a boy like that should come here I suppose," he mused to himself, talking as if there where nobody else in the room.

His eyes focused on the card one of them was holding, his lips curling slightly as he recognized it as one of the seven Spectrum cards.

Excellent, he thought If I can get a hold of that then perhaps my research will finally go somewhere.

His thoughts where interrupted as he spotted a new figure appeared, proceeding directly to the intercom next to the gate and announcing herself as being from the Linwood Corporation.

"Perfect timing," Zues said aloud, peeling his eyes from the moniters "Looks like it's going to be a very busy day."

He left the security room and procceded to the main entrance, opening the doors and stepping out into the yard. He walked up to the gate and quickly dialed a small code onto a keypad, allowing the gate to open, before offering a rather shallow bow to the company present.

"Welcome," he said, addressing Elizabeth Linwood for the most part "I wasn't expecting so many visitors at once but I'm sure you all have significant business here."

He looked at each of the assembled people in turn, his smile as broad and cocky as ever.

"I am Dr Varius Zues, but my employees simply refer to me as Zeus so you may do so as well," he continued "Now, might I enquire as to what business each of you is here for?"

****

Syra kept silent as Zues introduced himself, seeming very much like a cliche'd evil businessman/scientist. Tempted as he was to yell out-loud that they had stolen one of his cards he kept his mouth shut, planning on sneaking out of sight once inside, grabbing the card and then slipping out as quickly as he could.

"Elizabeth Linwood," she replied, offering a hand. "I'm here regarding your research, Mr Zues. My superiors have expressed a interest in your work on a Duel Monsters card. I was nearby, and if you aren't too busy I was wondering if it would be possible for me to see your work for myself." She paused, and looked around the others who had assembled outside. "Of course, if you don't have time right now, I can arrange for someone to come around later. If I hadn't called now, I would have been getting in touch in the next day or so anyway." She felt in her bag for a business card, in case she needed to leave him her details.

Track stared at the man who had introduced himself as Zeus. "So this guy is in charge of the place huh." Track listened to what the girl who had completely ignored Track and the other two. Track began to think. "What's this talk about a card. Wait this card must be just like the one that man has. Those cards seem to hold strong powers." Track placed his attention on Zeus. "Okay Zeus. Listen up. I want to know what kind of a lab this is. I'm sure your going to need the assistance of a powerful duelist. I might even be able to help with any of your research. But I need to make sure that your running a business that I approve of."

Perfect, Tsuchi though as he saw people gather at the gate, I guess that guy must be letting them in...

Tsuchi walked up, showing a lot of cockiness. "Hi there, I'm Tsuchi! So, I hear you have a... special... card here. I'm just interested - I have heard rumors and I would like to check if they are true or not." Tsuchi just realised what they were talking about. Oh man, I hope I didn't just ruin my chances with that. "Well, may I come and see inside?" Tsuchi was getting slightly nervous, being the center of attention at that moment.

"Not at all, Miss Linwood," Zues replied, taking the hand offered to him and shaking it warmly "Your timing is perfect. Perhaps a 'guided tour' would be benificial to the both of us." He cast his glance around the assembled group, eyebrows rising as another person came up to the gate claiming to have some kind of special card.

Another one, Zues thought delightedly Perhaps it is true that the Spectrum cards are drawn together. How fascinating that my facility should be their battle-ground, what a perfect opportunity.

"Well, if you'll all care to follow me then I can show you just exactly what it is I do here," Zues said, motioning towards the door "And once we're finished, perhaps we can discuss matters further if you so wish."

With a warm smile he turned about and headed for the main door, opening it with a simple wave of his hand and motioned for the others to come inside.

Come into my parlour, he thought Said the Spider to the Fly!

"Thank you very much," Elizabeth replied, following the scientist to the door . Before she entered, she left a message with her secretary, to explain why she would be absent for longer than she'd originally anticipated. Dropping her phone back into her bag, she stepped inside the building itself, and once she was far enough to allow the random group of people to enter as well, had a look around the entrance. The entrance seemed to be clean and modern, which was a good sign.

"I afraid science hasn't been something I've taken much interest in personally," she admitted, "besides your own work, what sort of research happens here?"

OoC Notes: Apparently Obelisk was none too happy that I dealt with the subject of rape and thrown in a spot of nudity in an RP of a children's card game, even though it was only in a flashback, so I've edited this post to vanquish all trace of it. I know it's supposed to be for all ages, and because of that I should've warned everyone at the very least, but still... you'd think you'd get away with hiding this kinda thing in spoilers <_<
Amelia Fenikkusu lay on the ground, her body still wrapped around a tree. She struggled to get back into conciousness, and every move she would make, no matter how small, would only result in a scream of pain and agony. There was no denying how narrowly she evaded death, but the truly remarkable thing was that she managed to survive at all.

"Most... painful... thing... ever..." she said weakly, before trying once again to get back on her feet and, although this time was a success, it hurt even more badly than the failed attempts, "What... kind of... deranged bastard would... do this to me?"

"That doesn't matter now, what matters is that we make him pay for it," was the only answer.
Amelia woke with a start. She'd been gazing at her Spectrum Card for some time now, then all of a sudden a flashback from the time of the collision came out of nowhere. Amelia looked around frantically to get her bearings, only to realize that the rest of the group were well ahead of her. She then raced to catch up. As she did so, she could still feel bones digging into the muscles of her legs, but that was nothing she couldn't handle any more. However, after all those months, it still took a toll on her stamina as she immediately had to catch her breath again.

"Way to spare a thought for the injured!" she spat through her panting.

"Ah, thank you," Tsuchi took a quick glance around, "so, who will be showing us around, Zues?"

Tsuchi got a feeling from the other guys around him. Only small, but it was noticeable. I wonder what it is, Tsuchi thought, I guess I'll find out soon enough. There must be a reason why they're all here too. He saw how clean it was. This would either be suspicious or, it could just be a really good place. Although he didn't want to say, he could see Zues making weird looks - it was confusing for him, he didn't know what they meant.
