While it's true it's a girls show, Lauren Faust did intend for people of all ages and genders to be able to watch it without wanting to shoot themselves in the face. (or one had Unicorn and the other Pegasus). It is completely possible for a pony to carry genes through countless generations, and have it not show up until a distant one, as in Pumpkin and Pound. I completed my personal shipping pairs of the Mane Six. The reason that Pound can fly and Scootaloo can't is because a Pegasus's wings grow slower than the rest of the body. A newborn Pegasus is able to fly because there isn't much weight that the wings need to support. Scootaloo is older, and her wings can't support her body weight at this stage. Pumpkin is teething. The Cake babies are super babies. This would, however, kill my previous statement about Pegasi and their flight abilities in youth. Pound Cake's wings are strong enough to support both him and Pinkie, and he was able to lift the playpen after having been taped down. That's all for now.
