MLP FiM :D

Spring huh? so we are still at least 4 to 5 months away, Spring officially starting on March 22nd and all.

IDK why but I've been returning to being active when looking at pony stuff despite there not being any official activity for me to look at. I've even been watching a few episodes here and there, the latest being Nightmare Night and Bab Seed's episode.

Shame on me, this is my thread and I took so long to come read this last page of comments.

Yes I was overall pretty pleased with Rainbow Rocks. It felt more recommendable than the first part. Sunset Shimmer shone a lot in it IMO.

YES! Maybe this'll be the time the CMC's finally get their Cutie Marks.

I don't think that's probably gonna happen any time soon.

They'd lose a lot of their purpose if they did. I mean they could go the "Princess Twilight" route and give them their goal right there and then following by some sort of new mission, but it just wouldn't be the same.

We'd lose part of the motivation Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon bully them.
They'd throw away an important part of the show (they even extended their influence in the Bab Seed episode)

I mean, the CMC are essentially not side characters, but main characters used for when the show wants to relate to the life of the younger part of their audience, as opposed to life-threatening and all-nation-involving matters like with the princesses, or young adults living by themselves and/or job issues, like with the Mane6. I suppose that is why the opening no longer features only the mane6 in the photo at the end.

Anyways, its more about the journey than the goal here....

So Josh and I just finished Season 4 a few days ago.

Overall... I liked it. The return the of Flim Flam brothers was fun, and while the villain at the end was a little... Boring, I enjoyed the finale. My thing is that it felt like a very definite end to me, so I was surprised to see there's a season 5 being made. o-o

Also haven't watched Rainbow Rocks yet, so I've gotta get Josh to agree to do that. It'll take some convincing.

What's his stand on the show, out of curiosity?
Is he indifferent, or slightly amused?

It reminds me of the way my brother reacts, taking a lot of convincing but liking the episode when I finally show it to him. Then still saying he doesn't like the show at all and he will take convincing again as if he was a new time watcher being forced (which he partially kind of IS forced, but not really)...

CHEETOR JOINED THE CAST WITH THAT EPISODE LOLOLOLOLOL

The last episode was by M.A. Larson, who typically does more of the dynamic episodes; which is why it was different.

Also... Black didn't like the first movie?

Oh he likes the show! There are a few episodes he wasn't fond of, but it's just the movie he really disliked.

Honestly, I don't know his full opinion on the show, I would have to drag him into this thread to get him to post them. xD

I don't remember why fully, something about it being too generic compared to most of MLP which typically does a good job avoiding it.

It wasn't as bad as he expected, but he still felt like it was mediocre... I think. We watched it a long time ago.

I'd have to agree with that view. As a big fan of the show, I liked seeing the references thrown in every like, 5 seconds or so. Though, references alone don't make up a movie and I have to admit it is roaming with plot holes, forced conflicts, over-stereotypical trends, a bit more awkward animation, and some questionable choices.

Still not as bad as anybody expected it to be from the promotional art xD

I still am so far from finishing up my drawing T.T

I think that's right now my plans before its too late to use as a Christmas header xD

Also, I've been occationally re-watching MLP episodes, though I think they need a Christmas episode that feels more personal to them than the play of last time.

...Wasn't the Hearth's episode the closest thing to Christmas that we got?

Yeah but not quite in the fashion we're thinking off . . .

I kinda wish we got proper Christmas specials in those years in which the main series isn't airing in December (like right now, for instance). I know I'd tune in to an hour-long pony special on Christmas day. if it's good enough for doctor who, it's good enough for mlp :D

Yeah not like that. Ya see Doctor Who can do that since they don't have any difference in Earth's holidays. Equestria's equivilant to Christmas, as we've already said, is Hearths Warming; with Christmas Eve being Hearths Warming Eve.

So if you suddenly add something called Christmas then it'll throw the world building almost completely out of the window when it comes to that holiday.

Just like that . . . . kind of . . . .

You get my point!

What I meant was a proper Hearths Warming (Eve) episode. The one we got was basically them explaining what Hearths Warming was. We never actually saw them enjoying the holiday. I think personally that it'd be interesting to see an episode where the mane six have to deal with the trappings of the season: finding the perfect gift, visiting family, dealing with family, the crowds, travelling, holiday traditions, etc.

How interesting would it be if we followed the mane six throughout the episode as each attempt to enjoy Hearths Warming despite things not going as perfect as they might want.

Fluttershy and Rainbow Dash deal with having to find the perfect gift for RD's dad

Applejack and Rarity has to deal with their family; in particular Rarity's annoyance with her parents

Pinkie Pie and Twilight have to deal with traditions, possibly the changing of traditions, with their family

For Twilight I think it would be nice to see her getting upset that her parents want to have Hearths Warming at the Crystal Kingdom, instead of in Canterlot where it's always been held.

Can't you imagine her, remember she's a princess now, whining, "But Dad! We always have Hearths Warming at home!"

To me that's the kind of Hearths Warming Episode I want to see. The original was nice to introduce the idea, but now Hasbro needs to explore it with their characters- hopefully without just ripping off an already established holiday classic like the Grinch. I can just see them making Discord their version of the Grinch and going through the same motions and it honestly sickens me . . .

Okay I think the Hub might be listening to me . . . or at last the fandom as a whole. Hell! They might just have seen the potential ans decided to use it.

I was just checking The Hub Network and, to my surprise, they are airing both Equestria Girls.

But that isn't the point of this. I looked a little farther and saw two specials that caught my attention
"Twinkle Wish Adventure"
&
"A Very Minty Christmas"

EDIT: So I need to check shit first. Old specials are old.

EDIT II: Okay so I decided to actually watch both specials and . . . . well . . . . both of them were odd.

you were expecting anything other than odd from generation 3? I'm surprised you even survived.

Considering I'm immortal . . . yeah . . .

Wait, you watched something pre-G4?

Yeah I'll admit it is overly and clearly marketed towards girls but in the end I can say certain things were . . . okay?

To be fair, guys, the episode Dragon Quest was literally based on an older G1 episode.

Did not know that.

So where do I begin?

I think I'll start with the one I actually watched first. "A Very Minty Christmas"

Sweet merciful Celestia!!!

I didn't mind that the other ponies had bad voicing- no offense to those who did the voices mind you. Yet when everyone sounds off then to have gen 3's Rainbow Dash come in with a deep womanly voice it threw me for a loop! I mean everyone else sounded, or at least sounded close enough, to a young adult and Rainbow Dash is the only one that sounds like an adult.

Though her constant use of the word "darling" began to wear thin by the end of the movie. Not every sentence needs to have the word in it no matter how badly you want your viewers to start using it Hasbro!

Thistle Whistle's fear of clouds is . . . off considering she's a pegasus. I'd expect that to be explained within the series, but I doubt it.

Lastly the main character in the story, Minty, is the stereotypical klutz. She's good hearted and intends for the best. Yeah she broke the magical signal candy cane that leads Santa to Ponyville (though I still believe after going there every year for a long time he'd have memorized the route) I can't blame her. I happen to be used as OCD as she seems to be- constantly shifting things left or right until I think it('s) just in the right position. I guess this is where Twilight Sparkle inherited her OCD from.

The story is basically Minty, as I previously said, breaking the candy cane signal for Santa and having to figure out how to fix it. I'll admit I like that the first two things she tries are the most logical ones- try to repair the candy cane signal herself then go admit what she did. I'll even give extra credit for her openly admitting to breaking the valuable object once it's discovered the candy cane is broken.

But before that little discovery Minty decides to become Santa and begins giving away her collection of socks. This is probably where the idea for ponies in socks came from. I still can't get over the fact we have a song about socks and all of their glory in this movie. Just . . . wow . . . really shows what age and stereotype they were hitting for, y'know?

All in all everything ends up alright with Santa using Minty's idea for socks as stockings.

Next was The Twinkle Star Adventure.

This was, surprisingly, a bit more bearable than the previous one. While the previous one seemed for little girls just old enough to watch and understand cartoons, this one seems to be for a more mature audience albeit still pre-preteens.

I'll admit not knowing very much about previous generations outside the fact there was a previous Twilight Sparkle, Applejack, Spike, Rainbow Dash, Pinkie Pie, and Scootaloo the characters here surprised me. I didn't expect to hear names like Cherrilee and Sweetie Belle at all.

Add on the revelation that Cherrilee is Scootaloo's older sister and you get a meta factor that breaches into Gen 4 even.

So the plot. The plot is basically every year a special wishing star, Twinkle Wish, comes out of her box to grant the wishes of everyone in Ponyville- but only everyone can get their wish if Twinkle Star remains asleep until the ceremony.

Ponyville holds a ornament decorating contest which Cherrilee wins, thanks to her friends all giving up a piece of their ornament to help her make hers, and she gets the honor and responsibility of holding onto Twinkle Star's box- and Twinkle Star who is asleep inside the box, of course.

Of course, Twinkle Star wakes up and is immediately kidnapped by a dragon. Fuck yeah dragons! Though the dragon does have fairy wings . . . .

From there everyone, save Sweetie Belle and Scootaloo, who remain behind to keep everyone from discovering Twinkle Star is missing, goes to a remote mountain to rescue the star. Come to find out the dragon, Whimsy Weatherbe, kidnapped Twinkle Star because she was lonely. When the ponies attempt to convince her to give Twinkle Star back she refuses.

Then they leave.

Why? I dunno! Apparently violence didn't exist in Gen 3 because I'm sure that'd be grounds for someone to attempt to physically get Twinkle Star back. Oh well, they pull a "mysterious change of heart for no reason" and Whimsy Weatherbe returns Twinkle Star during the festival.

Only Twinkle Star has been asleep only enough to grant one wish. Through some serious asspulling everyone realizes their "wishes" were already granted save for Pinkie Pie, who wished for pink snow. Pinkie gets pink snow. The end.

I don't remember if there was any songs in this one. There had to be I'm sure. I just can't remember them. At all. They're that forgettable.

Best moment in all of the movies?

Pinkie Pie being given a rock. THAT was funnier than it should've been.

If I had to bring anything back from the movies is . . .

1.) The Winter Wishing Festival sounds good and should be added into Gen 4 lore.

2.) Minty was a decent enough character to warrant a reboot for herself

3.) I'll have to be either extremely bored or being paid money to watch something before FiM.
