I haven't read chapter 4 yet, though I'm about to, but so far this has been a good story. Also, third new person to comment. *takes cookie* yum, cookies.

EDIT: I just finished reading it, good episode, but, how was avenging knight parshath still on the field, he was destroyed by fragrance storm.

/epicfacepalm crap...

Well, sometimes there are those WTF moments you get in the anime, so I was glad that you caught that. So yea, case of bringing a monster back without having to lift a finger (I should probably go and fix that).

Also, another WTF moment, my story is center-aligned. I could've sworn I put my story it in left-alignment.

Pretty good chapter there. Though the plant duelist making friends with the hero after a duel seems familiar from somewhere, but I don't know why.

It's a mystery.

BTW: I tried reading your fan-fic, but it seems that the spoilers do not work. I just thought I should give you a heads-up.

Odd, they work fine for me. Maybe it was glitching when you visited the thread?
well, the first spoiler about the intro/backstory is working, and I can see the first paragraph of the second chapter, but there's nothing for the first chapter. It's blank to me; not even a title or anything. It could be some weird thing that IE tends to do.

And that the plant duelist is a psychic duelist.
Yep, that too.

That's why I use Chrome. :P I could PM you with another link for the fic (ff.net), if you want.

That would be awesome. It's all in the sig: if you read my fanfic, I'll read yours. Equality for all.

Anyway, work was really boring today, so I'm glad to be home. I was able to get through to the end of Chapter 14 last night. I love it when I'm in the zone and working on my fan-fic at like ten pages at a time. I also think Chapter 14 is the best Dueling Chapter that I've written so far. But first we need to get through chapters 5-14, and as long as I keep posting them, there'll definitely be some feedback (I hope).

I'm gonna see if I can try and work around a schedule about posting fan-fic, because it seems readers are getting to comment my story faster than I can finish my chapters. It's either that, or I'm just working too slow. Anyway, I'm gonna see if I can get someone to proofread the dueling chapters, I know Umbra did a while ago for me.

Without further ado, Chapter 5 is now up. Since this chapter is long, it'll be divided into two parts. If you read them both at the same time, then it might make sense, but its also a good place to "bookmark" if the reader decides to stop.

Chapter 5 – The Contractor

Ressen was out late again this time. Another person on Ressen’s list that had some kind of rare card was now crossed out. It was 6:44, according to his Duel Runner’s clock, which was an hour ahead. Ressen almost forgot the nightlife until he started taking up this job. When he wasn’t entertaining his fans worldwide, Ressen made a living off obtaining rare cards and turning them into “The Contractor”, a person who helped Ressen get out of the Satellite and back into New Domino City after his family’s accident. All of his brothers and sisters died…and so now, he felt as though he were obligated to take this position and atone for what had happened. It was shear guilt.

The night black sky slowly turned into a mystic dark blue. A scarlet circle shone up from the eastern side of the city, and seemed to reflect on the sea’s surface, glittering it and lighting it up as Ressen drove by on Lunar Glint. Ressen had waited a long time to see the true beauty of the city, and not be stuck in the rotten, dirty place they called the “Satellite”. Ever since the Daedalus Bridge was built between New Domino City and Satellite, there was a lot of good coming out of it for a while; Turbo Duels were legalized, Sector Security was off people’s backs for a while, and the Highway System helped mold Duelists into being the best Duelists they possibly could. However, after time, crime rates in the Satellite Sector started climbing again. There was a lot of smuggling, contraband, and illegal distribution of Dueling Cards.

Since Ressen grew up in the Satellite, he knew every street, every alleyway, and almost every person that inhabited the island back then. People were so isolated in the “Satellite”. Ressen always thought it was a good thing. Then came the incredible news: the city and Satellite would finally become one. And that is where Ressen’s story starts.

After living in the Satellite for so long, he was unaccustomed to living properly in New Domino City. Many people had asked why Ressen couldn’t just go back to the Satellite and enjoy living there. Ressen had thought about it for a while, but he claimed himself an “adventurous” person, and so, he wanted to explore what the city was like. He met all kinds of people and he watched all kinds of Turbo Duels from some of the rising stars of the century. Ressen couldn’t forget the day, nine years ago, when the legendary Duelist Yusei Fudo won the Fortune Cup. Ressen, while growing up in the Satellite, believed that anything was worth fighting for if you gave it your all, and that’s what Ressen did. He worshipped Yusei Fudo, not just because of his excellent strategy or card combinations, but because both of these young Duelists followed the same logic. Everything is worth fighting for.

Weeks after the Fortune Cup, Ressen had received a note from one of the old friends that he used to hang out with when he was growing up in the Satellite. The note said, “if you are ever looking for a job, just come to the hotel. The password is: Can I get some hot tea?” Ressen, without any choice, decided to go and visit his old friend. When Ressen arrived, he was immediately offered a job, and a list. The job: stake out one-hundred duelists and obtain their rarest card. Return the card to “the Contractor” to get your pay.

Of course, that was nine years ago, and he’s still looking for the fifteenth person on the list. Ressen didn’t know what to think of the situation, and he still doesn’t know. He doesn’t even earn enough pay to cover for a week’s worth of food.

While looking for Duelists on his list, he ran into Phoenix, one of his best friends when Ressen was growing up in the Satellite. Of course, the two had their share of mischief and kiddy rivalry, but in the end, they would always be one for all, and all for one. Phoenix offered Ressen a place to hide out after he had completed another “mark” on his list, and Ressen took the advantage and the luxury of having a place to stay.

Ressen pulled into the garage. Phoenix was already waiting for him. He was standing next to his Duel Runner, “Crimson Star”, which was modeled after Phoenix’s favorite card, “Elemental Hero Inferno”.

“So how did it go tonight? I assume that it went well, seeming as how you were gone for almost six hours.”

“Yeah, sorry about that.” Ressen showed Phoenix the card. It was the legendary “Dark Magician”.

“It was worth it, though. The guy who had it really put up a good fight, much more than some of the other people on this list,” Ressen continued.

“How good of a fight?”

“I had 100 Life Points left.”

Phoenix was shocked at his friend’s remark. He was never even able to get a hit in on Ressen, but a random duelist was able to bring him down to his last 100 Life Points? It seemed that this kid had some style. “You know, the annual Future Worlds Duel Championship is coming up, this wouldn’t be a bad opportunity to stake out some more people on that list,” Phoenix said, changing the subject. “Many people showed up there five years ago, I don’t see why we can’t just grab the list and do it again.”

“Yea, but we need one more person in order to do that. It’d be harder to compete with two instead of three.”

“So? We’ll do what we always did. It’s always been the two of us against the world! We’ll show everyone that we are a force to be reckoned with! With your Chaos Incarnate Deck and my Burning Soul Deck, we will be unstoppable this year!” Phoenix was out of breath.

“Right…us against the world…”

There was a moment of silence. “Who is the next person on the list,” Phoenix asked. “This will be fifteen, right?”

“Right,” Ressen agreed. “Let’s see, number fifteen, yep, “Ayame Suzuki”.”

“Well, then, let’s go find her. Maybe we can convince her to join our team! Maybe it will be three against the world after all.”

“Right, I highly doubt this person has a Duel Runner. Ayame Suzuki sounds too much like a schoolgirl’s name.”

“You never know. How about swinging by the New Domino Duel Academy, I’ve got connections there.”

“Alright, I’ll swing by today.”

Phoenix put an arm on his friend’s shoulder. “No way, man. You were up all night; you need to rest today. In the meantime, I’ll work on both of our Duel Runners and see if I can get more torque out of them. I know my Duel Runner absolutely needs a new engine, especially after the torque curve after four-thousand…”

“Alright, well, you have fun. If you need an extra wrench, I don’t mind.”

With that beside him, Ressen retreated to his room. Phoenix looked at his Duel Runner. Maybe it wouldn’t be a bad idea to resort to another person during this year’s Future Worlds Duel Championship. But then again, what other choice did they have? Phoenix began having second doubts about entering this, especially after how they barely finished five years ago.

It was the final duel of the Future Worlds Duel Championship. It was Team Future World, which consisted of Phoenix and Ressen, versus Team Armageddon, which consisted of Prince, Demon, and Seal. Team Armageddon had gotten this far due to their team leader, Prince, who ran the most feared Deck in all of existence. In fact, the team ran Scrap Decks, which were widely feared around New Domino for their awesome power.

Phoenix LP: 1500, SPC: 4, Card Count: 3
Seal LP: 2400, SPC: 8, Card Count: 4

“That makes it my turn,” Seal demonically said. “I Normal Summon “Scrap Goblin”, tolling your destruction. Then, miraculously, Phoenix won the Duel by managing to pull out “Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste”, by Fusing his “Lavalval Dragon” with “Elemental Hero Nova Master”. However, he knew that he wouldn’t last long against Demon. It was Demon’s turn…

“Scrap Twin Dragon’s” effect let Demon return two cards that Phoenix controlled back to his hand. Needless to say, this was the last that Phoenix would ever see “Dragon Knight Draco-Equiste”. Then it was Ressen’s turn to duel.

Demon LP: 4000, SPC: 3, Card Count: 1

Ressen was staring at “Scrap Twin Dragon”, a powerful card could inflict some serious damage. But Ressen would not falter.

“By discarding “The Fabled Catsith” from my hand to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon “The Fabled Nozoochee”. And when “The Fabled Catsith” is discarded, my furry friend also takes out one face-up card on the field. I say your “Scrap Twin Dragon” is toast.”

“Humph…when “Scrap Twin Dragon” is sent to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon another “Scrap” monster to take its place. Come forth, “Scrap Soldier”.

“Also, since “The Fabled Nozoochee” was Special Summoned, I can Special Summon another “Fabled” Monster from my hand, more specifically “The Fabled Cerburrel”. Watch as the mighty struggle between lightness and darkness descends onto the battlefield, as these monsters struggle for sovereignty over the Dark World! Synchro Summon, Second Crown, “Fabled Valkyrus”!”

Phoenix had been watching from the sidelines, along with his mechanic, Darian, and his girlfriend, Kaori. They would never forget that day: the image of Prince and his “Scrap Atomic Dragon”.

Phoenix had lost himself. He resumed work on his Duel Runner, Crimson Flare, before shifting his work to Ressen’s Duel Runner. It shined a bright blue in the morning sun. Phoenix had thought of the future and what it might bring. Separation, loss, maybe even failure…he then resumed work on Lunar Glint.

Kimiko was unable to sleep last night. Something was keeping her awake, but she didn’t know what. She recalled the Duel.

“Now I activate “Pot of Avarice”. You should be familiar with this card’s effect. I send five monsters from my Graveyard back to the Deck, shuffle, then draw 2 additional cards. Return, “Splendid Rose”, “Naturia Rock”, “Naturia Butterfly”, “Naturia Rosewhip”, and “Naturia Guardian”. Now I draw two…”

Kimiko was thinking to herself for a long time.

“I never meant to hurt anyone before. I just…I don’t know what to do anymore. My “Splendid Rose” card has brought about nothing but destruction. I…don’t want to hurt anyone anymore. Ayame made a promise to me; now…I have to live up to my part of the deal…I can’t Synchro Summon it.”

“I end my turn.”

Kimiko thought of what could’ve happened if she went ahead with her plan.

“Now I activate the effect of “Glow-Up Bulb”. Since it’s in the Graveyard, by sending the top card of my Deck to the Graveyard, I can Special Summon it from the Graveyard. Now I tune my Level 1 “Glow-Up Bulb” with my Level 5 “Naturia Bambooshoot” in order to Synchro Summon “Splendid Rose”…”

She put the thoughts behind her and crawled under her blanket. It was the weekend, so maybe she was looking forward to some sleep. But then again, it was already 7:00 in the morning. There was no easy way that she could fall asleep. She cursed at the fact that there was a window in her room that faced east, having the golden morning sun glowing inside her dark, black room. She cursed having a room with a window at all. Not being able to sleep a blink last night and now the sun shining in her eyes. Was there anything else that the world could throw at her right now? She closed her eyes, hoping for at least a little bit more sleep.

It was 7:57. Ayame stood outside of her friend’s room. Ayame was always waiting for Michiko on the weekends, but during the weekdays, Michiko was always the one waiting on Ayame. Both of their lives were full of contradictories. This morning’s breakfast was Scrambled Eggs and French Toast, and there was no way that Ayame was going to miss this delightful breakfast. That is, if Michiko would ever get up. Ayame had been waiting for ten minutes, to which Michiko was claiming that she was putting on make-up. At 7:58, she appeared, and Ayame was taken in shock.

Michiko appeared wearing her usual wardrobe of her red outfit, but she had a lot more jewelry on. There was now a golden ring on Michiko’s right middle finger, which was comparable to the golden ring that she already had on her left ring finger. She still wore her black wristband, still presumably an hour behind in time. Her exterior features of her face and hair, however, were the most drastic changes. Her hair was now in several buns, which dotted the right and left side of her head. At least Ayame could now see both of Michiko’s eyes, instead of having her hair cover her left eye. Indeed, Michiko was not lying when she said she was putting on makeup; her lips were now dyed bloody red, her eyelashes plastered with mascara, and eyeliner that she had put on below the base of her eyes, instead of the technique of doing both the bottom and top. Her face was covered with cake, which resembled a paler version of her skin tone. “Well, how do I look,” Michiko finally asked.

“You look great! What’s the occasion today?”

“Today is my theatrical appearance, remember? I tell you, I am gonna rock it tonight. You are coming, right?”

“Oh, of course.” In reality, Ayame had completely forgotten about it. “I wouldn’t miss your big theatrical appearance.”

“After all, it’s not every day you get to be on stage with some of the cutest guys in our school.”

“Ha! That sounds like the Michiko I know. Can’t wait to get her hands on a guy.”

Ayame and Michiko then laughed. They walked down the hallway to the breakfast hall. For some reason, Ayame thought someone was following her. She looked behind her. Nothing. Ayame shrugged and put it behind her.

Ayame and Michiko both had a filling breakfast, but at 10:00, no students who were not in weekend classes were allowed to roam the hallways. This means that Michiko and Ayame had to go back to their rooms, since neither one of them had Saturday School, or Sunday School for that matter.

When Michiko got back into her room, she immediately started applying the powder for her makeup. She looked at the pass that was on her dresser. She only needed another hour to prepare, and then she would go down to the Auditorium and practice her monologues before her big performance tonight. However, Michiko felt uneasy. There was another presence in the air that didn’t belong there.

Finally, Michiko had applied the finishing touches to her outfit that she was going to wear. She ironed her dress that she was going to use tonight. She had always kept her clothes unkempt, but she needed to take extra care of the outfit that she was going to use tonight, as it was not hers and was loaned to her. The white gothic dress and white silk gloves were a perfect match for her role in the play: a pure, holy individual that had fallen in love with a man, but there was already another. It was the basic love triangle fairytale.

Now it was finally time. Michiko had all sorts of emotions running through her. She put on the white dress and made her way down to the Auditorium. When she got to the courtyard, she noticed a person standing all by its lonesome. She probably thought it was no one. It was a person cloaked by a purple-and-black robe, however, so it definitely raised some suspicions. She decided to ignore him and go head straight down the hallway to where the Auditorium was.

“Where do you think you are going?” Michiko heard someone say, with a voice very deep and baritone. Instantly, with a wave of the figure’s hand, a wall of purple fire had blocked the hallway to where Michiko was headed. She gasped, not knowing what to do. What was going on?

“You will stay here until I am finished with you,” the same voice said. Michiko turned around. Of course, it was him. He was behind this whole thing.

“Okay, you’ve gotten my attention. Now what?” Michiko said as bravely as she could, however, she was not the brave type.

“You will answer my questions.”

“Straight to the point. Candid, aren’t we?” Michiko said with an extra sharp sting.

“Where is Kimiko Nakimura?”

“What do you want with her? She doesn’t take too kindly to visitors.”

“I am someone who is well acquainted with her. She and I have…business…to talk about.”

“Too bad. I’m in the middle of something. Pick on someone else.”

“Fine then. We duel then, “princess”.”

“The name’s Michiko. And fine, I accept your Duel. However…I don’t have my Duel Disk with me.”

“That’s not a problem.” Then, the hooded person held out a hand. From it materialized a purple and black Duel Disk. Michiko reached into her dress pocket to get her deck. “Grab it, and we may start.”

“Michiko!”

Michiko looked over to her left. There, beyond the wall of purple fire was her best friend. “Hey, company at last!”

“Michiko, what’s going on,” Ayame questioned her friend.

“You talk to him.” She then pointed to the hooded person. “This guy claims that he wants to see Kimiko.” She then turned back to the hooded person. “But, in order to do that, you’ve gotta win against me, which might be tough for someone in your situation.”

“Oh, goodness,” Ayame said to herself. “This is not going to end well.”

“Alright, let’s start this thing.”

Michiko LP: 4000
Duelist LP: 4000

“I think I’ll start,” said the hooded man.

Duelist Card Count: 6

“I play “Sangan” in Defense Mode. Then, I’ll place one card facedown to end my turn.”

Michiko Card Count: 6

“Be careful, Michiko. I hope you know what you are doing,” Ayame thought to herself.

“I’ll start with this. It’s called “Foolish Burial”. This allows me to send one monster card from my Deck directly to the Graveyard. I choose my “Treeborn Frog”. This move won’t be foolish in any way. Next, I Normal Summon “Koa’ki Meiru Sea Panther”. Go on and destroy “Sangan”.

“Sangan’s effect activates. When it leaves the field, I’m allowed to move one monster from my Deck to the hand with less than 1500 ATK points. I choose “Destiny HERO – Defender”!”

That was an interesting combination. Michiko wondered what kind of Deck this person ran. “Fine, I’m done. Now, during the End Phase, Koa’ki Meiru Sea Panther’s” effect activates. If I don’t discard 1 “Iron Core of Koa’ki Meiru” in my hand, then this card is destroyed. However, there’s an alternative. I can also show you one Water-Attribute monster in my hand to prevent it from being destroyed. I reveal “Reese the Ice Mistress” in my hand to prevent my “Sea Panther” from being destroyed.”

“It is at this time that I reveal a Trap Card, “[http://yugioh.wikia....ar_of_Greed]Jar of Greed”. I draw one card from my Deck. Now it is my turn.”

Duelist Card Count: 7

“I play “Magical Mallet” to return four cards in my hand back to the Deck, shuffle, and re-draw.” The mysterious duelist then put back four cards in his Deck, shuffled, and re-drew. “I set one monster facedown, and place three cards face-down. Your turn.”

“Don’t mind if I do.”

Michiko Card Count: 5

“Now, during the Standby Phase, I can Special Summon “Treeborn Frog”, since I am currently lacking Spell and Trap cards on the field. Now for a grand-old move that you’re never going to forget! I Normal Summon “Deep Sea Diva”. When “Deep Sea Diva” is Normal Summoned, I can Special Summon 1 Sea-Serpent type monster from my Deck, as long it is level 3 or below.”

“It is at this time I activate a Trap Card, “Pulling the Rug”. This card automatically negates the effect of your “Deep Sea Diva” and destroys it.”

“What? Are you telling me that that move was worthless?” There was rage steadily building up within Michiko’s voice. She sighed then. Michiko had no doubt that her opponent’s facedown monster was most definitely the “Destiny Hero – Defender” that he put his hand last turn. Well, there wasn’t any time left to waste. “I’m attacking your facedown monster with my “Koa’ki Meiru Sea Panther”. Attack!”

The man flipped over his monster. It wasn’t the card that Michiko was thinking of. It was “Destiny Hero – Departed”.

“Wow, you are more of a joke than I thought. Now my frog can attack you directly…” Michiko said, laughing. The frog leapt across the entire field and crawled to the mysterious man. When the frog was in reach, it head-butt the mysterious duelist. The man didn’t even flinch.

Duelist LP: 3900

“Once again, Koa’ki Meiru Sea Panther’s” effect activates. I reveal “Reese the Ice Mistress” in my hand to prevent it from being destroyed.”

Michiko knew something wasn’t right. This was too easy.

“My move then.”

Duelist Card Count: 4

“During the Standby Phase, the “Destiny Hero – Departed” that you destroyed last turn is Special Summoned to your side of the field.”

“Oh, thanks. A welcome gift.” Michiko felt like she was being set up.

“I activate a facedown Spell Card, “Mind Control”. This allows me to take control of one of your monsters until my End Phase. Now, return, “Destiny Hero – Departed”.”

The monster re-appeared on the other side of the field. “What was the point of all that?” Michiko asked.

“You will see. I Normal Summon “Dark Resonator”. Now I tune my Level 3 “Dark Resonator” with my Level 2 “Destiny Hero – Departed”. I Synchro Summon “Stygian Sergeants”!”

A twin-headed biker appeared on the field, screaming as it did so. Michiko’s face degenerated into a state of horror and shock.

“No, it can’t be…”

“Michiko, what’s wrong?” Ayame questioned.

“There’s only one person in the world that could have that card. It can’t…can it be?”

“What’s wrong, Michiko? I thought you would’ve known by now,” the Duelist said. “I thought you would be able to recognize your own father…”

The hooded man then pulled back the hood on his robe. The site was more disgusting than Michiko could bear to bring herself to. Michiko’s face remained unchanged, stuck in horror.

I'd say either spoiler them within the duels, put the details at the end of the chapter, or just explain them well enough so we don't need to see the card text.
I was originally planning on doing that. The thing is, unfortunately, there are some people out there who might be saying "What? I've never seen this card before. Give me a spoiler...", so I might end up having to do that. Also, I'm naturally descriptive, but like I said...people need proof for some reason...

Read Chapter 2 of your fan-fic. I'll post a review within your actual post, cause I don't wanna flood this post with two fanfics going at once. Pretty sure that's lockable.
I was originally planning on doing that. The thing is, unfortunately, there are some people out there who might be saying "What? I've never seen this card before. Give me a spoiler...", so I might end up having to do that. Also, I'm naturally descriptive, but like I said...people need proof for some reason...
Yeah, I don't get that. I mean, all that would get you is the same thing as the description, except typed with OCG...

Well, I read chapter 5. My reaction HOLY!-- UNEXPECTED PLOT TWIST.
Unexpected plot twists screw with your head? Don't worry, Chapter 6 is going to be great if you thought Chapter 5 was amazing.

Also, I just finished typing up Chapter 15. I think I already said this before somewhere but I think Chapter 15 is the greatest Dueling Chapter that I have ever written. It's not every day you get to pull out a "Trident Dragion" with "Delta Flyer" and "Dragunity Knight - Gae Dearg", and then give it a whopping 5600 ATK by also activating "Speed Spell - Power Baton" and sending an incredibly powerful monster to the Graveyard, in hopes of an OTK. But I think I've already gave away too much.

Working on Chapter 16, which is a sob story. Hope to have it done over the weekend. Will post Chapter 6 probably either tomorrow or Monday, depends on if my car is back from the shop yet.

Snickerdoodle must be scaring off my readers. Time for Butterscotch.

Nope, no it isn't. The way it happens with Dragunities for me is Arma Levyaten + Phalanx. And of course Speed Spells don't actually exist, sooo...

Well, I'm sure there are thousands of ways to do it. It is all a matter of personal preference.

My internet got fried last night because of the storm that rolled through. Tree branch fell in my driveway, got to go fix that, then I got to get my car out of the shop. But before I do any of that, I wanted to post Chapter 6.

Will Michiko be able to save herself from the clutches of her psychotic father? Or is it all over for her? Let's find out....
Chapter 6 – Father and Daughter Bonding Moment

Michiko stood there motionless. Why would her father be here of all places? She couldn’t even look at the man that claimed him her “father”. This person did not deserve to live, not to mention even be here.

“You are still scared, aren’t you,” the man retorted.

Michiko LP: 4000, Card Count: 4
Duelist LP: 3900, Card Count: 3

“Michiko!” Ayame called out to her friend. “Who is that?”

“Ayame…this man is a monster. He is not who he claims to be.”

“Now, now, how could you treat your father that way,” the man said.

“You are NOT my father! My real father would never do half the things that you did to our family!”

The duelist turned. “Ahh, please excuse my manners. I see you have a friend who is watching. My name is Mizoui Karayama. I am Michiko’s father.”

“Stop that! You are not! You’re a sick, wretched man who completely destroyed my family!”

Ayame had never seen her friend so disgusted at one person. There was definitely hatred present within her voice.
“Come now. Everything is for the greater purpose. Every move I make contributes to the greater good of society, and the greater good of my power as a Duelist.”

“Your power is nothing but disgraceful, Mizoui.”

“Little girl…you have much to learn.”

“You walked out on our family all those years ago. The accident took half of your face off, and I’m supposed to pity you?” Michiko had had enough. She reached for her Deck, attempting to draw a card.

“Uh-uh. It’s still my turn,” Mizoui said, waving his index finger. “Since you are so familiar with this card, I don’t think I need to explain to you the magnificent power that this card bestows upon the person who controls it. I attack your “Treeborn Frog” with my “Stygian Sergeants”.”

The “Stygian Sergeants” ran over the small “Treeborn Frog”, and it disintegrated into a hundred pixels.

Michiko LP: 1900

“Next, when “Stygian Sergeants” attacks and destroys a monster in battle, by increasing its ATK by 800, it can attack again. Go, destroy her “Koa’ki Meiru Sea Panther”.” (5/2200/1800>>5/3000/1800)

And just like before, the twin-headed biker road-killed the “Koa’ki Meiru Sea Panther”.

Michiko LP: 800

“Come now, Michiko. You don’t need to begrudge me your entire life…” Mizoui said.

“You abandoned our family for your little “power game”. My mother relied on you around the house. We both did. And yet, you just threw it away like it was just a piece of trash. What kind of father does that?” Michiko swiftly drew her card.

Michiko Card Count: 6

“Since, again, I control no Spell or Trap Cards, “Treeborn Frog” is Special Summoned from my Graveyard. Next, by throwing away “Fishborg Blaster” in my hand, I’m allowed to Special Summon “Swap Frog” from my hand. Then, I activate another one of “Swap Frog’s” abilities. I can put him back into my hand. It’ll be like he was never there, just like you weren’t, father.”

Michiko had spat her last word. It pained Ayame to see her friend like this.

“Now, since I control a Level 3 or lower Water-Attribute monster, by throwing away one card, I can Special Summon “Fishborg Blaster” from my Graveyard. Now I tune my Level 1 “Fishborg Blaster” with my Level 1 “Treeborn Frog”. Clustering wishes will call out a new horizon! Become the path its light shines upon! Synchro Summon! The Power of Hope, Synchro Tuner, Formula Synchron!” When “Formula Synchron” is Synchro Summoned, I get to draw one card.”

Michiko Card Count: 4

Next, I Normal Summon “Genex Undine”. Now I activate “Genex Undine’s” ability. By sending one Water-Attribute Monster from my Deck to the Graveyard, I can move a “Genex Controller” to my hand. So I send “Ronintoadin” to my Graveyard to move “Genex Controller to my hand. I then place one card facedown to end my turn.”

Mizoui started laughing. “You really think that’ll work on me?”

“Well then, let’s see what you’ve got, “father”!”

Mizoui Card Count: 3

“Gladly. I’ll attack “Genex Undine”. Go, “Stygian Sergeants”!”

“Before you do, I activate a Quick-Play Spell, “Bronze Knights”! By discarding one card from my hand, I gain a “Bronze Knight Token”.” (Warrior-Type/EARTH/Level 1/ATK 500/DEF 0)

“Why go through the bother of doing that when I’m about to win?”

“Because now that I have met the level requirements needed to Synchro Summon, I think I am going to do so.”

“What? You can’t Synchro Summon on my turn!” Mizoui said blatantly.

“Oh, but indeed I can. “Formula Synchron’s” effect lets me Synchro Summon during your turn. I tune the Level 2 “Formula Synchron” with my Level 3 “Genex Undine” and my Level 1 “Bronze Knight Token” in order to Synchro Summon, “Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier”!”

“Hmm, that was a smart move. I cancel my attack.”

“As right you should.”

“I place a card facedown and end my turn. Now, let’s see what you’ve got.”

“Gladly,” Michiko retaliated. She drew her card.

Michiko Card Count: 3

“Since, again, I control no Spell or Trap Cards, “Treeborn Frog” is Special Summoned from my Graveyard. I don’t think I need to keep reminding you. Next, since I control a Level 3 or lower Water-Attribute monster, by throwing away 1 card in my hand, I can Special Summon "Fishborg Blaster” from my Graveyard. This is déjà-vu all over again. The Power of Hope, Synchro Tuner, Formula Synchron!” And once again, another card for me.

Michiko Card Count: 3

“Here’s something different, though! I Tribute my “Formula Synchron” in order to Tribute Summon “Mobius, the Frost Monarch”! You're through!"

“Not quite so. I activate a Quick-Play Spell Card, “Offerings to the Doomed”. It’s simple, I destroy one face-up monster on the field, but I skip my next Draw Phase. I think I’ll destroy “Brionac, Dragon of the Ice Barrier”.”

“No!” Michiko yelled as the monster disintegrated into thin air. “Well, I still have my monarch at least. Mobius, attack his “Stygian Sergeants”!”

The monarch monster slammed his fists into the earth. Instantly, the earth around “Stygian Sergeants” solidified into ice. Then, the ice broke into several pieces, destroying the monster altogether.

Mizoui LP: 3700

“I end with a facedown card.”

“Then, my move.”

Mizoui Card Count: 3

“I Summon “Destiny Hero – Defender” in Defense Position. That ends my turn.”

Michiko Card Count: 4

“Don’t mind me barging in then. Trap Card open, “Call of the Haunted”! With this card, I can bring back one monster from my Graveyard. I’m bringing back, “Formula Synchron”!” Since he was Special Summoned, not Synchro Summoned, I’m not allowed to draw a card. But it doesn’t matter. I Normal Summon “Treeborn Frog”!”

“Not again,” exhaled Mizoui. He was getting tired of seeing that thing.

“Don’t worry, this is the last time you’ll ever see my froggies. I tune the Level 2 “Formula Synchron” with the Level 6 “Mobius, the Frost Monarch” and Level 1 “Treeborn Frog”. I Synchro Summon, “Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier”!”

“Yes. Michiko’s definitely got this one,” Ayame said to herself.

“When “Trishula, Dragon of the Ice Barrier” is Synchro Summoned to the field, I can Banish one card from your hand, field, and graveyard. I choose “Destiny Hero – Defender” from your field, “Stygian Sergeants” from your Graveyard, and the middle card from your hand.

The card that Mizoui removed was a copy of “Gorz, Emissary of Darkness”. Ayame had confidence in her friend now. “Go, Trishula, and attack Mizoui directly!”

The dragon prepared it’s ice breath attack. Shards of ice flew past Mizoui, and all he could do was cover his face, or what was left of it anyway.

Mizoui LP: 1000

“Your move. And make it count, because it might be your last one.”

Mizoui Card Count: 2

“I Normal Summon “Destiny Hero – Captain Tenacious”. That makes it your move.”

Michiko Card Count: 5

“That’s all? C’mon, I thought you’d be more “powerful” than that. You’re really just a coward who couldn’t face the truth. I will always be more powerful than you, father, not just in terms of strength and Dueling might, but because I have grown to see the good within everyone. I have the intelligent power!”

“Ha! If you were really intelligent, then you would have seen this coming! Trap Card open, “Destruction Ring”! With this card in play, I destroy one monster, and we both take 1000 points of damage!”

“What? He’s going to end it just like that?” Ayame thought to herself.

“I destroy my “Destiny Hero – Captain Tenacious”,” Mizoui yelled.

From the shattered remains of the holographic monster appeared a lightning ball that ascended above the arena. It grew in size by the second.

“This does not look good,” Ayame said to herself. “But I can’t do anything if I’m trapped behind here.”

In the next instant, the mass of lightning shocked both players. Mizoui seemed to revel in delight about the shock; Michiko’s body jerked wildly, unable to withstand the pain of the shock. Finally, there was a massive explosion that kicked up a bunch of smoke.
“Michiko!” Ayame yelled. She was terrified of what could happen next. When the smoke settled, both duelists were still standing…barely.

Michiko LP: 0
Mizoui LP: 0

“A tie…” Ayame said. Then Michiko collapsed to the floor. It was unbelievable that the static shock didn’t make a scratch on her clothing. Ayame turned her eyes to Mizoui. “Hey, what do you think you are doing? That’s your daughter over there, isn’t it? Well, she needs help!”

“That isn’t my daughter anymore. I will be back…and when I return, Kimiko will be next on my list.” Mizoui then turned. “I am also known as “The Contractor”. We shall meet again.”

Then, Mizoui, waving his robe around, opened a portal in front of himself and walked through it. He disappeared, along with the purple fire that blocked the hallway. Immediately, Ayame rushed over to her injured friend. “Michiko…” Ayame grabbed her friend and wrapped her in her arms. “Michiko…”

“It’s okay…I’ll…be fine,” Michiko spoke softly. It was clear that she was hurting. “After all…no pain…no gain, right?”

“You were great out there, Michiko. But we need to get you to the nurse.”

“Thanks…Ayame. You’ve always been…a great friend to me.” Michiko then closed her eyes and drifted off.

“No…no, don’t you dare shut your eyes on me, damn it.” Ayame carried the girl around her shoulders, hauling her down the hallway to the Nurse’s office. She wasn’t going to let anyone else get hurt today. Ayame barged in. Ayame set her friend down on the bed and explained everything to the nurse. The nurse then promised to take care of Michiko until she felt better.

Outside, Ayame sat on a chair with her hands in her face. She brushed her hair back. “Who was that man? That was clearly not normal.” Then, Ayame heard footsteps coming down the hallway. It was Kimiko.

“What happened,” Kimiko asked bluntly. “I heard an explosion and I came down here as fast as I could.”

“Just…a father and daughter bonding moment…” Ayame said softly. There was silence between the two. “Why…”

“Well, Michiko won, right?” Kimiko asked.

“Well…yes…and no. It ended up being a tie.” There was even more silence between the two girls. Ayame looked up at Kimiko. “Kimiko, I have to ask you. Do you know someone named Mizoui Karayama?” Kimiko thought for a moment, but shook her head. “He claims that you two have business to talk about…”

“No…I don’t know anyone by that name. Sorry…” She then hung her head. Kimiko, too, started to feel the weight of what was happening. It felt like an eternity before anyone spoke. Kimiko stood with her head hung and arms crossed, looking at the floor, and Ayame solemnly sat in her seat with her hands on the side of her head, brushing her purple hair back behind her ears. Finally, the nurse came out.

“She’ll be fine. She needs a little bit of rest, though. With enough rest, she’ll be able to perform tonight…hopefully.”

Then, the nurse closed the door, leaving the two girls outside wondering whom the mysterious person was that Michiko just dueled.

“You walked out on our family all those years ago. The accident took half of your face off, and I’m supposed to pity you?”
The sound of Michiko’s harsh words rang in the back of Ayame’s head.
