Neg Reps

Recommended Posts

All they do is encourage minimodding. What kind of post deserves a neg rep rather then being reported?

Negative reps are supposed to show disagreement with a valid comment. If the comment breaks forum rules, you report it; if it doesn't, and is merely stupid or factually incorrect, you neg it. For example:

[insert User] is a paedophile.

would be reported, whereas:

Two-Pronged Attack is the best card ever.

would be negged.

Anyone spamming negs against one person is probably doing less actual harm than if they were sending potentially insulting or offensive messages instead, and isn't there a quota on neg reps to limit that anyway?

I don't have a view one way or the other on reps as a whole. I basically ignore them, and every other forum I've been on has done fine without them, but then I don't "like" or "dislike" youtube videos or anything like that much, so other people may want the rep system (not those in this thread, obviously, but other people). However, if you keep the positive, there should be a negative as well.

Two-Pronged attack being the best card is a personal opinion an doesn't deserve a neg rep. Your a total douche for thinking it does.

I don't think that particular comment should or shouldn't be negged. It was simply an example of something that doesn't break the forum rules, and thus shouldn't be reported, but was dumb. If someone simply is wrong or stupid, that's ok. If they're continuously very stupid, and don't listen to anyone who simply disagrees with their opinion, then they'd be deserving of the neg.

You report things that break the rules. You neg something that doesn't break any rules but makes you go "What planet is this person on?" You don't have to neg if you don't want to, and you'd likely correct them as well, but it gives you another option to express how bad you think a comment was.

At least the old rep system needed a reason. This is just pointless. (the irony that reps give you 100 points)

I agree that having to give reasons was better, since it made each rep mean something. Now it's basically just another pointless score like post counts.
