I'm fairly optimistic, although in my mind, Tobey Maguire is the only Spider-Man.

I like'd the first person scene, but I can't help but feel as if I've seen this before. Hope it turns out well.

On opening night, they will actually just show the first Spider-Man movie again. This is just a ruse to conceal the fact that they are working on a sequel that overwrites Spider-Man 3.

that's because Spider Man 3 fell WAY short of expectations, so instead of continuing, they'll just reboot the series

I haven't read the comics, though I did get the first Ultimate Spider-Man Ultimate Collection. Spidey is easily my favorite Marvel hero, and I enjoyed the original trilogy despite its faults. I like Andrew Garfield, so I was very happy to hear that he would play Peter Parker. I'm really excited for this. It's a shame that when I saw the midnight premier of Captain America, someone shouted "WHY!?" and the audience burst into laughter. I'm definitely excited for this, though, and I'm confident the series this film sparks will be better than the original trilogy.

It doesn't seem that bad and actually follows the comic book stoyline. Granted, I kind of grew up with the first movie series and am not from the comic book era but I like how this looks. It kind of makes a connection with me I don't know why. The suit has webshooters! Though if you have seen some pics of the suit it also has some shoes that seem weird... I don't know, I'm not going to raise my expectations or anything, I'll just wait for the movie.

Seriously? Someone shouted "WHY!?" XD

Anyway, I did only read the Ultimate Spider-Man comics....but what the heck is with Peter pulling something out from the back of his neck like that? (May have been in the Amazing Spidey series, but again didn't read it) And web shooters....FINALLY!!!

The comics I've seen and the old series I've seen (aside from Spectacular....) all had him with web shooters.....the original triology just made it where he was shooting web out his wrists. And I'm not gonna lie, it was kinda weird. <_<

And I am a little disappointed that Tobey isn't playing Spidey....I mean, he was the Spider-Man lol. But this new guy better do Spidey some justice.

That and the costume looks a little bit better than the original triology's. The hands for the new outfit somewhat remind me of the "Spider-Man Unlimited" series costume.

to me the costume looks relatively the same

but still it's a HUGE deviation from the first Spider Man costume (remember him going into the wrestling arena and all that and how crappy THAT costume was)

The first Spiderman movie lived up to my expectations, however, I feel the series slowly but surely went downhill from there. I'm glad they are making a new one, I just hope it lives up to my expectations unlike Spiderman 3.

I'm just hoping they'll get the web shooting right this time, that was NOT among the powers inherited

I haven´t read the comics or anything but I was very skeptical when I first heard about them rebooting the movies
after seeing the dissapointing 3´d movie.

Watching the trailer, I´m not impressed in the least.

Maybe it´s the completely new cast, maybe it´s the more less obvious plot (judging by the trailer)?
I don´t know, but I don´t like it.

Because that totally wasn't the point.

Of course, it's obvious why they chose to do it that way: because having web-shooting technology is silly, whereas being able to weave webs like a spider is cool.

*Coming from somebody who has watched the three movies but otherwise has no interest in Spider-Man*

I'm pretty sure he went to the same high school as me, but I didn't like how the audience laughed in response to that. I can accept that Spider-Man 3 left in bad taste in people's mouths, but since I'm trying to actually read the comics so that I can be a "proper" Spider-Man fan, I was kind of sad that not many people were excited. I did talk with an old friend after the movie was over, and he agreed with me that the movie looks good.

I don't get why everyone complaining about the new cast. I liked Andrew Garfield in "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" and "The Social Network", Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy is a great choice, Dennis Leary is a huge improvement from Gwen's dad in "Spider-Man 3", and Rhys Ifans has played some creeper characters, so he's great as Doctor Connors.

I'll admit I didn't like the first-person scene at the end of the trailer, and Peter's attitude seems rather emo, but the film can resolve those problems by proving the first-person shot was only a teaser and having Peter undergo a little something called "character developmnet". I can understand that the trailer could have made a better first impression, but still.

I love Spider-Man, so I'll be psyched for any movie he's in.
The new angle the reboot's taking is both good and bad in my eyes.
It's bad because the film seems like it'll be grittier and more dark, something like Dark Knight. When that isn't really Spider-Man at all; sure he has bad luck, but he tends to brighten up the mood. However, this probably won't be a problem, since I heard he was funny during a clip shown at Comic-Con when he was messing with a bad guy. Him joking around was something sorely lacking in the original trilogy. However, the angle's also good because, well, it helps character development. And even though Spider-Man isn't a dark hero, he has had a rough living.
Aunt May being young was weird, but acceptable.
Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy is absolutely positively smex.
Can't speak for other actors, but no one looks bad for their respective roles.

Honestly, now that I've gotten over the fact I won't see Carnage in theaters for a while, I'm looking forward to the rebooted series now.

After watching it and what not I have to state a couple things.

TO those who commented on the crappy wrestling costume, you DO both know that is actually part of the comic book origin, right?
In the original series when he first came out Spiderman didn't go out swinging for bad guys, but instead went to a wrestling match with a homemade costume to try and earn money. Gets jipped -> Place Gets Robbed -> Parker lets the guy escape -> Criminal Kills Uncle Ben -> Parker becomes Spiderman.

In that respect the original Spiderman movie played the origin story almost to a tee. Spiderman II was equally as good with how they introduced Doc Oc and what not, the only true deviation being him dying in the end; after all there is no point in the stories which I remember him dying. The ONLY movie out of the Spiderman Trilogy which ruined it was, of course, Spiderman III . . .

Why did it fail so badly?
Well it might be:
Too many villains, subplots, romantic misunderstandings, conversations and street crowds looking high into the air and shouting 'oooh!' this way, then swiveling and shouting 'aaah!' that way.

<_<

To be honest that movie should've just stuck with Venom and kicked Sandman's ass to the curb; also removing the God D*MN Emo Scene would also save some grace.

Okay enough rambling about that. For me, I probably will watch this when it comes to redbox or, honestly and more likely, when it appears on the internet to save my hard earned money in case it blows. A reboot is more or less needed, though not a nessecity, but in my personal opinion it hasn't been long enough for people to be "ready" for one.
Like the Captain America, which Roxas happily reminded me about, movie. Captain America has had a movie before and enough time has passed than when people saw it in the threater they thought, "Hey a Captain America movie! Looks exciting, we should see it."

This one, with not enough time passing, people more or less think along the lines of the guy who shouted, "WHY!?!"
Why? Because they are being impatient and people still remember the original Spiderman Trilogy.

Though I will say I am glad they are bringing in The Lizard instead of Green Goblin again . . .

Okay can we all face the Spider-Man Movies needed this reboot desperately? And i am going to speak honestly now. It didn't need a reboot because of the first 2 movies which in my opinion were great, especially the first one, and it wasn't even about the third (okay maybe a little). It was because of a couple of reasons:

1-Tobey Maquire, though good in the movies, he was only good for the movie fans that haven't read the comics. Half the time he was shy and half the time he was Dark. He wasn't witty as the comic Spider-Man. Though Spider-Man should be serious at certain moments, but most of the time he's witty and smart, instead of using strength he used his brain to think of ways to defeat his opponents and use his wit to provoke his opponents. Tobey Maquire didn't fill this role at all.
2-They completely messed up his love Story, as he was first with Gwen Stacy before he was with Mary Jane. Instead they were foolish enough to put Mary Jane first and Gwen as less important character in the third movie.
3-If the old crew stayed and continued making Spider-Man 4-7, they would have tried to squeeze in all villains and romantic affairs from the comics in 4 movies. That way all the following movies would have ended up as Spider-Man 3 and the Spider-Man Movies would have forever been remembered as the worst Superhero Movies in History.

That is why i think this reboot is the best thing that could have happened to the series, and finally the introduce the lizard to the series even though i thought the Green Goblin was pretty good. And finally they decided to actually make it as it is in the comics and give him the freaking web shooters! I mean seriously web out of the wrist did look cool but when one thinks about it in a more serious manner it is kind of disgusting. If i remember correctly Peter didn't have Web instead of blood seriously it doesn't capture the Spidey concept at all.
