Piracy

My entire country pirates EVERYTHING, music, DVDs, porn, games. They sell it on the streets, and everyone buys it because there's a form of thinking in Trinidad, that you should get anything you want, this results in a profitable business where on every street corner, sidewalk and snack stops, there is a pirated DVD store. Another reason piracy is rampant is because of the high charge on customs in our country, which results in high-ass prices for everything (1 pack of Yugioh is $7!!!!!). Although customs have reduced their shipping tax, the Trinidadian businessman still maintain the high prices for original goods, because they want to maximize profit in a way that the stupid consumer will never notice. Another problem is that, living in a small insignificant island off the coast of Venezuela, many online services like Hulu or Netflix is blocked and they have to resort to piracy since the prices of everything is jacked up and shipping from abroad costs a lot more than what Americans pay for the item. Despite this, being relatively well-off, I buy all my stuff original, no piracy after I found out how much it harms the industry. Everyone else, however, pirates like there is no tomorrow.

What do you guys think, is the piracy is my country justified? Or are they just cheap bastards?

I don't want to rush my replies since there is a video about piracy that had some good points, but I forgot what video it was or the points that I remember agreeing with. For the time being, I'll just reply with what I know of right now.

You call it piracy.

We call it freedom.

No one is stopping you from pirating and you are free to do so as you please. However, isn't it morally wrong? You should not be taking a product that you are asked to pay for.

QFT

Its also a good way to try something before really buying it. The Whole internet relies on piracy, so yeah you get my point

What?! I do not get your point. How does the internet rely on piracy?

I've heard of the argument that it's a good way to "demo" games, but the majority of pirates never buy the legal copies. I know there are people out there that use piracy as a demo, but I don't think there's enough to call piracy a good thing.

Piracy is a good thing.

Please explain this to me.

Nothing wrong with Piracy especially for poor folks such as myself.

If I want to listen to a song, why should I buy a CD i can't afford? I'll just download it. I am an inspiring graphic artist but I dont have 3k to spend on the latest Adobe suite so ... pirated.

I pay for stuff I can afford and if I like it.

Minecraft is the only thing not pirated

Most pirates will illegally get a game and end up never buying it. Games and music and everything cost money; if you can't afford it, you have no right to get it illegally. And I'm talking about the people who pirate most or all of their games, not the person who got a Super Mario World ROM just to dick around and edit it. My friend pirates tens upon tens of computer games and it just irks me to know that he's robbing companies of hundreds of dollars.

The same can be said about, basically everyone I know. And to think, daily they try to convince me to get a gaming PC because it will be cheaper than a console because you can pirate the games. Then there's my aunt who thinks I'm spoiled because I "waste" money on something that I can get for "free".

No offense, but your aunt is an ignorant little prick. Why would she waste money going to the grocery store when she can just as easily steal all of the food she needs? She's most definitely spoiled; is she too good to steal food for free that she has to waste money to go out and buy it?

You can see that both of our arguments are retarded. Video games aren't a necessity, but that doesn't give you a right to steal them. Sure, pirating a game is a lot more inconspicuous than stealing food from a store, but the concept is still the same.

if i can't afford it, then i will pirate it. I won't let money get in the way of things i enjoy

I recently moved out of my house and am currently living at my college, and I'm too lazy to get a job, so I'm running out of cash - and quick. I could eat the cafeteria food, but I don't like it. I'd rather dine at Red Lobster on a daily basis. If I can't afford it, then I will steal all of the food I want. I won't let money get in the way of things I enjoy eating.

Maybe Red Lobster was a bad example because it isn't all that easy to steal food from, but just because it's easy to steal video games does that give you a right to do it? Not really. If you can't afford something, you aren't meant to have it. I'm not going to steal a nice 7-Series BMW just because I want it but I can't afford it. Be realistic.

The funny thing about piracy in my country is that EVERYBODY does it. If you want to understand why, I posted a comment above that explained why. The problem our country has is that everything costs a lot of money, so piracy is their only option, but they treat ANYTHING that can be pirated as a necessity, which it is clearly not.

Piracy sucks, as I said.

People shouldn't do it <_<

Yet people will continue doing it as long as they can find a justification for piracy, which can be lacking money, saying how the big corporation get too much money, the product isn't worth the money, they were "testing it out", etc.

Have you not read anyone's post?

It's wrong.

Just wrong.

Just like your viewpoint.
