Enzax stirred in his bed, unable to fall asleep. Images of Runescape flashed through his head, haunting his dreams. “Damn you, Wiseman…” he muttered. “I’ll get you for this.”

That so?” Enzax immediately spun around, seeing a black figure moving through his room. He reached toward the side of his bed for a baseball bat, but the figure had already moved past him, fleeing out of the window.

“Come back here!” Enzax yelled. He jammed his feet into his boots resting at the foot of his bed as he jumped out after the intruder. Enzax felt grateful that his room was on the first floor of his house as he landed in the grass, sprinting after the mysterious figure. “How did you get into my room? It’s protected by the utmost security, I’d know if a bug got in.”

How about finding out for yourself?” he called back.

He seems different... Enzax thought. What the hell was he doing here anyway?

I sense a lot of burning questions from your aura,” the Wiseman called back. "Do you want really want to know how I got in?

“Yes.”

Same way I’ve bypassed the government’s systems. Kid, if I could outwit the Mods twice, there’s no way in hell a kid like you could fare better.

Enzax finally closed in on the intruder, swinging his bat. The Wiseman caught the bat with his hand, jabbing Enzax in the face. As Enzax recoiled from the blow, a car sped down the road they were on. Enzax felt another blow to the head from behind, blacking out as he heard screeching tires.

Enzax’s sense began returning to him. He felt cold stone lying underneath his carcass, its sticky surface clinging to the top layer of his clothes. Sitting up, he glanced around him. His eyes widened as he saw a familiar figure lying next to him. “Clair?”

Clair rubbed her head, wincing as her fingers caressed a bruise. “Oh, hey. You’re from my science class, right? Enzax?”

Enzax nodded his head. “Don’t tell me you’re playing this sadistic game too?”

Clair bowed her head. “This is really bad, Enzax. I was almost killed two days ago. The dude made Black and Cherry face each other with me and Caeda as hostages. He let both of us go, but Cherry lost...and he's in the hospital.”

Enzax grimaced. “They’re not playing around. I don’t know why, but this Wiseman’s been acting out of character if you get my drift.”

“I noticed that too,” Clair replied. “But after Black and Cherry finished their duel, he let both hostages go anyway despite saying something bad would happen to the loser’s girl.”

“So murder’s a line they haven’t crossed yet…” Enzax muttered. “But that’s not a guarantee they won’t in the future. Do you know where we are?”

“I…think we’re in a parking garage. But there are no cars and the parking spaces are faded.”

Hello, Clair and Enzax. I want to play a game.” Both kids whirled around, hearing the disembodied voice echo throughout the complex. “Are you ready?

“I don’t like where this is going…” Clair muttered.

You are both on the ground floor of an abandoned parking garage. I’ve sealed all exits so neither of you can do something stupid like escaping. In this three-story complex, we’re going to play a game of hide and seek. You two will hide and I’ll try to find you. Whoever I find first will be the loser.

“Well, what if we stick together?” Clair retorted.

The voice chuckled, sending a chill up their spines. “Well, the way I’m finding you will render you both the losers in that case.” Before Clair and Enzax could question him further, they heard a revving noise. From around the corner, a black car with no license plates zipped around the corner, halting as it faced the two of them.

“Oh sh*t,” Enzax muttered. “Clair, RUN!” The car’s wheels tore up the gritty gravel as it sped forward. Enzax grabbed Clair’s arm as they rounded a corner, looking for somewhere to hide. “Like hell I’ll let that b*stard hit us.”

Uh oh, I’m catching uuuuuup!
