[spoiler=Nostalgia Log: Maximum Starch]

Joseph Max, or better known as J-Max, just finished closing up his comic book store and was heading home when he ran into his buddy, William Starrk.

“Max, how have you been, I heard you got stuck in that game again. It must be rough.” Starrk commented as he joined J-Max, walking down 78th Street.

Max sighed.“It has been, I feel really bad for the people I’ve beaten to get this far and I don’t know what to expect next. It’s nerve racking and I honestly don’t know how much more I can take.”

“I know what you mean; I’m stuck in this game as well. But I know there is a way to stop these guys, I just know there is. I’ll find a way, and when I do I’ll stop them for good.”

That’s very touching, however we won’t be stopped so easily by the likes of you.

A mysterious figure stepped out of a nearby alley, dressed in a dark trench coat and wearing a wide brim hat that managed to conceal his face in the fading twilight. He wore leather gloves and heavy set boots as well as dark jeans to complete the outfit. A vague glare gave hint of a pair of sunglasses on his face. In his left hand he carried what appeared to be a briefcase of some sort.

“So you’re finally showing yourself in public? Well then, I guess I’ll just handle this myself!” Starrk yelled as he began to move towards the figure.

I wouldn’t do that if I were you. Any wrong moves and your families are history.

The figure opened the briefcase and revealed a small portable screen, showing two images, splitting the screen down the middle.

“You monster…” was all J-Max could manage.

"Well then I guess it’s time to begin this little minigame of yours, since it’s you two facing each other tonight."

The figure then pointed across the street towards two cars parked along the left-hand side of the curb. He then pulled two sets of keys from his pocket. "The rules are simple; the first one to race around Loop 720 five times wins. Should either of you attempt to contact the police or deviate from the designated race-track, you forfeit your families to the Wiseman."

“What, you lack the balls to kill them yourself?” Starrk replied, aghast.

"I don’t kill people, so long as you follow the rules, your families will remain safe and unharmed. You have my word."

“A lot that is worth.” J-Max scoffed.

"I suggest you begin soon, the police will be here any moment to catch a couple of street racers. Anonymous tip and all that."

The two rushed to the cars, grabbing the keys as the figure launched them with a toss. They began to head towards Loop 720 as fast as the cars would take them.

Is this seriously what Wiseman considers fun these days? It’s a good thing I’m good with Photoshop…"
