The Ancient Temple stood on a ledge a couple hundred feet above Fossiqua City. As a cloud slowly drifted past the moon, and the world went black for a mere instant, three dark figures shot up the cliff face and over the ledge, sparing not even a single second to get into the near-prehistoric building.
The figures slowed their pace almost immediately after entering, and they took every precaution to not activate any traps or make any noise. They finally reached the altar in the heart of the temple, where the soft moonlight shone down on a trio of stone tablets.
One figure, a rather muscular man, came forward and carefully lifted up one of the tablets. He examined it in the moonlight, revealing it to be a dull, earthy-brown color.
A second figure, this time in the shape of a thin woman, did the same thing. She lifted her tablet, and it was blue in color. It reminded her of the ocean. She smiled, then carefully placed it into a hi-tech case, alongside the one her muscular companion had grabbed.

Finally, a man of about average build came forward and grabbed the final stone tablet. This tablet was unique from the other two, as it was stark white, and it had a red, vaguely rose-shaped design on the side he currently faced. “Well, it appears that—“
The man was cut off by a deafening metallic screech that seemed to emanate from the surrounding area. The two who had grabbed the previous tablets covered their ears immediately, while the average-figured man simply placed the tablet into the container, which he then closed and locked.
The screeching noise grew louder and more painful to the woman and muscle-bound man. The other man simply smiled, and reached into the pocket of his denim pants. He slowly pulled out a near razor-thinelectronic device. A stylus shot out from his sleeve, and he flicked it across the screen twice before tapping the center twice.
Suddenly, the ground crumbled beneath the woman and large man, and they plummeted into an inky abyss. As the duo fell, the screech grew louder and louder in their ears before they smacked into a large body of stagnant seawater.

Chapter 1
A Brand New Beginning…

The young boy writhed and squirmed in his bed, tangling the comforter around his legs and feet. He mumbled somethingabout “Mudkips”, and shot his arms in the air in his sleep. His arms smacked down to his sides quickly, and he mumbled loudly.
“Rose? Ro-ose. Rosey-poo!” A soft, feminine voice wafted into the room alongside a rosy scent. “Rose, honey, wake up. It’s time to go meet Professor Holly, remember, babe?”
The boy named Rose bolted awake and shot a glance at his alarm clock. The time read 9:48.
“Aw geez! I can’t believe I almost slept in too late! Thanks, ma!” With that, the boy leapt out of bed and threw on a pair of blue jeans and his favorite red sweatshirt, which had now ironically faded to a rose coloration after many dedicated years of use.
Rose slammed his door open and shut and nearly glided over the steps leading to the ground floor. He patted the family Herdier, Henry, on the head and shot toward the small room that housed the washing machine and dryer, alongside all of his supplies. He grabbed his pack and quickly laced up his Running Shoes before racing into the kitchen and grabbing a piece of toast.
“See ya mom!” Rose said through a mouthful of warm, crispy, buttery bread.
“Rose! Wait, hun! Aren’t you gonna fix your hair, sweetie?” his mom called in a sweet voice.
“Relax, ma! I’ll be fine!”
“Oh…Okay. Well, see ya later, sweetie!”

♪~♫~♪

Rose smacked the “Automatic Open” button outside Professor Holly’s Lab…And proceeded to slam into the glass doors face first.
“Ah! What the—!” Rose looked over at the button he had pressed, and noticed the “Out of Order” notice taped underneath of it. “Ah, geez…”
Rose pulled the door open and ran inside, nearly colliding with Professor Holly’s assistant and Rose’s longtime friend, Aidan Finch.
“Geez, Rose! You nearly trampled me! You need to take it easy sometimes, you know?”
“You’re one to talk, Flinch!” Everyone called Aidan “Flinch”because he was extremely paranoid and jumpy. While he normally hated it, he was fine whenever Rose called him that, since he was one of the few people who were allowed to call Rose by his actual name without getting attacked by Henry.
“Yeh, I guess so, Rose…Anyway, the Professor is back in her lab waiting. Some girl went back there with her too, but I didn't get a good look at her. I think she might be getting a starter, too.”
“Good go, Flinch, good go.” Rose and Aidan often exchanged the phrase “good go” when one helped the other or gave the other one information, but neither could remember how it all started. “Well, I’ll check ya later, ‘kay Flinch?”

Rose stepped through the doorway into Professor Holly’s office. Professor Holly beamed at him and began to speak. “Looks to me like the gang’s all here!”
Rose looked around and saw two other people around his age. There was Kreuz, a guy with blonde hair and blue eyes that lived across the street from Rose. Kreuz and Rose had never really gotten along, mainly because Kreuz liked to assert how he was smarter than Rose academically and would no doubt beat him in a battle if the occasion should arise. Also, Kreuz was very unkind toward Aidan, something Rose couldn’t stand.
The girl, however, he didn't recognize. She was about an inch shorter than Rose or Kreuz, and she had brown eyes. Her long, straight, dirty-blonde hair looked like she had tried to cut it herself without using a mirror and her bangs were uneven. Her fair skin was covered in almost-healed abrasions. Her clothes were in rough condition; they were frayed at the edges, and there were dirt and grass stains all over them.
Rose had never seen anyone so beautiful in his entire life.
“Alright, everyone,” Professor Holly began. “I have here three Poké Balls, all containing one Pokémon each. This will be your first Pokémon, and they will be your partner throughout your entire journey. Rose, since you arrived last, how about you take the first pick? “Really? Erm, alright…” Rose approached a metal table with three Poké Balls on top of it. There was a label in front of each capsule. The one to the far left read: “Aron—The Iron Armor Pokémon.” The one in the middle stated: “Rhyhorn—The Spikes Pokémon.” Finally, the one on the far right was labeled: “Larvitar—The Rock Skin Pokémon.”
“Wow…It’s so hard to choose…But, I guess I’ll go with Aron. Come on out, little buddy!” Rose threw the ball into the air and it popped open. A burst of blue light emerged and formed into a small silver-and-grey dinosaur-looking…Thing. He looked up a tRose, then Headbutt him in the shin.
“OUCH!”
The girl giggled a little, and Kreuz just smirked.
“Oh, Aron…Sorry, Rose, Aron’s just a little headstrong, is all. Anyway…Kylie, since you arrived second, you get to pick your Starter Pokémon next!”

The girl named Kylie had an expression of shock and embarrassment on her face. “Umm…A-alright…” She began to shuffle forward nervously, then shook her head and strolled confidently up to the table. She grabbed one of the capsules and tossed it into the air, revealing the Rhyhorn.

“Rhy-HORN!” The Spikes Pokémon raised its head to the sky and let out a battle cry. It then walked over to Kylie and sat on its haunches next to her, like a dog.
“Good choice! Alright, Kreuz, that means you have Larvitar! A very powerful Pokémon indeed!”
“Peh. You say that like you thought I didn't know. That was the one I wanted from the start, anyway.” He did the same thing as the other two trainers, and a green Pokémon emerged from the light.

“…Tar…” Larvitar looked indifferent to all that was around him.

“Okay, well that’s everyone! I’m glad you all got who you wanted, then! Now, here are your Pokédexes, and your Poké Balls. I hope you all have a great journey!”
“Thanks!” the trio of new trainers said in unison.
Just as Rose was about to exit, Kreuz stopped him. “Hey, Rosy. What say you and me have a battle? There’s a field out back.”
Rose paused, and then smiled. “Sure.”

I've got to say, this is the best fanfic I've ever seen on this site! Already I'm hooked by the interesting start, and I can't wait for the next chapters! You also have great writing skills. You have good diction, and your style of writing reminds me of the books I like to read. Plus, having impeccable grammar and spelling pretty much gives you an edge most writers on this site don't have. I can tell, this fanfic will have no trouble doing very well on this site!

Here's Chapter 2.
Chapter 2
Getting the Hang of Things
Rose and Aron stood on the east end of the field, near a large windmill. Kreuz stood on the west end with his Larvitar, next to a crystal-clear lake.
“Alright, Rosy, are you sure you’re up for this? I mean, you can feel free to back out,” Kreuz taunted.
“Please, Kreuz, I never back down!” Rose was fired up. He’d never been so excited in his entire life as he was now.
“Alright, don’t expect me to hold back then. Now, let’s do this.”
Larvitar stepped forward so he was about a meter or so away from Kreuz. Aron stepped forward as well. The two Pokémon stared at eachother, and then entered a fighting stance. Aron lowered his body and pawed at the ground, while Larvitar hunched his back and placed one foot behind him.
“Umm…Okay…I-it appears that I’m gonna b-be the referee f-for this m-m-match,” Kylie stuttered. “Th-this will be a one-on-one battle. When one Pokémon is knocked out, th-the other trainer and their P-P-Pokémon will be the v-victors. Now, both of you…” She held up two flags. Her face was angled toward the ground, and her eyes were squeezed shut. “GO!”
“Right, Aron, use Headbutt!” Rose declared. Aron responded by running as fast as he could headfirst.
“Larvitar, use Screech!” Kreuz shouted with a smirk.
Larvitar reared back and sucked in a large breath. Then, he shot his front half forward so it was parallel with the ground and a massive high-pitched sound wave erupted from his tiny mouth. Aron was slowed by the massive force of this Screech, and he eventually stopped dead in his tracks, trying hard to not get blown away.“Grr…Aron, use Mud Slap!” One of Aron’s front limbs glowed a faint orange color, and he smacked the ground at an angle. A small piece of earth shot out at Larvitar and smacked him right in the face.
“Please, Rose, that won’t nearly be enough to stop my Larvitar! Now, use Sandstorm!” Larvitar roared at the sky, and many pieces of sand, dirt, and debris began to swirl around him. It eventually formed into a massive abrasive vortex.
“Now, Larvitar, disappear!” The massive Sandstorm finally dissipated, and what remained was a small hole in the earth. Rose looked around, trying to figure out where it went, when Aron was suddenly launched into the air.
“Ah! No!” Rose was dumbfounded. Larvitar had so much power, and he didn’t know where it came from. As he was trying to figure out what to do to soften Aron’s fall, Larvitar burrowed into the ground once more. “Aron, use Headbutt!”
Aron spun in the air, now with his eyes open, and finally straightened himself. Then, he angled himself toward the ground and began to shoot forward with even greater force. Finally, he slammed into the ground, and he left a small crater at the site of impact. Larvitar, who had apparently been just on the edge of this crater, slowly pulled himself out of the ground. Aron leapt to his feet instantly, seemingly unharmed from the impact.

“What?! How is this…?!” Kreuz was at a loss for words. “Grr…Larvitar, use Rock Smash!”
Larvitar’s fist glowed red-orange and he ran at Aron.“Aron, use Metal Claw!”
One of Aron’s front limbs glowed white, then gained a metallic shine. He began to charge at Larvitar, as well.
“FINISH THIS!” the two trainers shouted in unison.
Larvitar punched at Aron, and Aron raised his limb, which now had three small claws sprouting from it. The two attacks clashed, and a small shockwave burst outward. Sparks flew from the area around their limbs, and they both struggled to overpower the other.
“Come on, Larvitar! Show him just how strong you are!”
“Aron! I believe in you! You can win this, I know it!”
The sparks from the moves began to swirl around the small Pokémon, and a small glowing sphere formed between their paws. The sphere grew so it enveloped both of them, then exploded violently. This caused a massive shockwave, and all in the area had to cover their faces so they wouldn’t be struck by debris or become blinded by the light.
At last, the light faded. A cloud of dust surrounded the two Pokémon. Their trainers stared at the cloud, anxious to see who is victorious.
“Umm…” Kylie began.
Finally, the cloud began to dissipate. Both battlers stood firm. They were battered and exhausted, but they were still standing. A massive hush covered the area, and not even the small crowd of spectators made any noise. Suddenly, Aron lurched forward, only barely standing now.
“No…” Rose said quietly.
“Well, it looks like this is over. Larvitar, use Ro—Eh?” Kreuz was now dumbfounded.
All in attendance were shocked by what happened next. Larvitar painfully closed the distance between himself and Aron. He cocked his arm back, as if to deal a finishing blow, when a gleam appeared in Aron’s eyes. Suddenly, the Iron Armor Pokémon shot forward, a streak of white light accompanying him. Larvitar’s eyes grew wide, and he collapsed, defeated.

“…”
“…”
“I-it…It appears to me that the winner of this battle is Aron. That means—”
“No…” Kreuz began.
“The victory goes to—”
“No,” Kreuz said. It was clearer this time, but still very quiet.
“Rose!”
“NO! NONONONONO!!!! This is IMPOSSIBLE!!! There is no way that…That amateur could defeat me!” Kreuz was screaming like someone had just killed his mother before his eyes. His face was incredibly red. Nobody had ever seen Kreuz so frustrated before. He returned Larvitar to his ball and stormed off, muttering something about “more power”.
“Umm…That was a good match, Kreuz…I’m sorry that…Ugh…” Rose returned Aron to his ball and collapsed to the ground. He never knew battles could be so exhausting for the trainer, too.<br class="Apple-interchange-newline">
Another great job! Btw, I love that you used different starters than usual. It's boring when people just copy off of the canon. Creativity is what makes a fanfic so great! The more creative (as long as it doesn't get out of hand), the better! Plus, the rock-theme is just great! Rhyhorn, Aron, and Larvitar are 3 great rock types, and make perfect starters for this story!
